#166: Corruption, Capture, & Narrative Control (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 166th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week we discuss ants and agriculture, coevolution and symbiosis, the mainstream media and SARS-CoV2 origins, raccoon dogs and Kristian Andersen. We talk corruption, capture, and narrative control. We finish with two heartening stories about resistance, and coming together, that remind us of how to be good and human to one another.*****Our sponsors:MUD\WTR: is a coffee alternative with mushrooms and herbs (and cacao!) and is delicious, with 1/7 the caffeine as coffee. #165 Skepticism ≠ Terrorism (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 165th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week we discuss mis-, dis-, and mal- information, and terrorism, in light of testimony before Congress regarding the Twitter files and government interference in the exchange of information. We learn how the government would like us to quash narratives that it finds displeasing or inconvenient. We discuss the nature of respiratory disease and pandemics, and consider how much of the destruction that happened in the last three years might have been iatrogenic: caused by medical treatment (rather than by the virus). We consider what happened in 2018-2019, during the Spanish Flu, and the evidence that much of the damage then might have been iatrogenic—specifically from exceedingly high doses of aspirin. And we share the words of theologian Paul Tillich, who broadcast warnings and passion into Nazi Germany, his homeland, to reach the people and encourage resistance. ***** Sponsors: Mindbloom: at-home ketamine therapy. #164 Science, Race, Death, and (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 164th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss science, race, death and sex. No, really. Science: why it is critical—in science and in sense-making in general—to separate the observation of a thing, from the interpretation of what it means. Race: why acting to protect yourself from individual bad actors is different from avoiding whole demographic groups. Death: Daniel Ellsberg, who released the Pentagon Papers, revealed a terminal diagnosis this week. We discuss him, his legacy, and death more generally. Sex: How can different lifestyles—e.g., “neo-trad” vs polyamorous—co-exist in a functioning society? Or can they? Also, we begin with a brief conversation about the Inca. *****Our sponsors: House of Macadamias: Delicious and nutritious macadamia nuts, in all sorts of configurations. #163: Making Medicine Modern (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 163rd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss individual vs. public health, and whether the failures of the last three years are due to an over-reliance on clinical reasoning. (Spoiler: they’re not.) Rather, the failures are due to a lack of evolutionary thinking, in combination with reductionism and a reliance on both metrics and credentials. Then: continuing last week’s discussion of how models are the product of science, how do we assess the claim that shedding caused a case of myocarditis? Finally: race relations are disintegrating in some circles, and that seems to be the obvious result of race-baiting by supposedly well-intentioned “liberals” wielding DEI initiatives. There is a widespread move to shame people for things that are immutable (e.g. race), celebrate bad things that are mutable (e.g. kinks), and pretend that immutable things can change (e.g. sex). ***** Our sponsors: Helix: Excellent, sleep-enhancing, American-made mattresses. #162: Why Science? (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 162nd in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss John Campbell’s discussion of an autopsy report, and his discussion of drug recommendations in 2020 Britain raises, which raises serious questions about medical intent. We discuss scientific models—the good kind—and how Campbell’s first video reveals the correctness of our model of mRNA vaccine injury. Then we discuss a research paper, Wanzhu et al 2023, which purports to find that people vaccinated against Covid are less likely to go to the ER, to be hospitalized, and to die, than are unvaccinated people who have a history of Covid. We discuss whether or not this is true. #161: They’re Making Our Point (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 161st in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss Godot, dogs, and science. Do the New York Times and the Brookings Institution have insight into what’s true, what’s not, and how science is done? Could they define hypothesis, prediction, or test? We think not. New “research” out of Brookings claims that we are leading purveyors of misinformation, who “burnish [our] scientific bona fides” by using tricky terms like “correlation” and “causation.” Brookings having established that we are cranks for discussing scientific articles that are on pre-print servers (and so haven’t been peer-reviewed), we point to Nature’s discussion this week of…a scientific article on a pre-print server. Finally, we discuss how you might use a scientific approach to increase your odds of surviving in the Indonesian rainforest. ***** Our book, A Hunter-Gatherer’s Guide to the 21st Century, is available everywhere books are sold, including from Amazon: https://a.co/d/dunx3at Check out our store! #160: The Middle Ground Scramble (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 160th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss why sport has different categories for men and women, and actors and actresses are up for different awards, but sculptors, scientists, and screenwriters aren’t assessed by sex. What is the difference, and why does it matter? Should music awards be divvied up by sex? How about surfing competitions? Then we discuss how never to end up in another situation in which the authorities are spouting nonsense, they somehow convince far too many people that they are the voice of science; and dangerous, unscientific policies are made that will affect millions for a long time to come. Many people who consider themselves heterodox thinkers got it very wrong throughout Covid, but now claim that those of us who got it right did so through contrarianism or luck. In this 159th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss how to predict things that reliably turn out to be true, especially in the public health sphere: use the scientific method, employ a generalist toolkit, and engage in campfire conversations. #158: Transphobes? (Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying DarkHorse Livestream)

In this 158th in a series of live discussions with Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying (both PhDs in Biology), we discuss the state of the world through an evolutionary lens. This week, we discuss cancellation. How do mobs get to people and coerce them? Once cancelled, how immune are you? What are the lessons learned when going through the looking glass? Also: why do searches for “alpha male” and “gender norms” yield such bizarre results? And: why are we allowing the phrase “Adult Attracted Minor” to spread, as if it isn’t normalizing pedophilia? And Bret invites Sam Harris to talk to him: on DarkHorse, in a mediated conversation, or on QPARK. ***** Support our sponsors: Mizzen+Main: Beautiful and comfortable clothing for men.
