130 Managing Crises as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)

Managing Crises as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) Do you tend to over function when there is a crisis? Do you push through even though it’s not the best for you? Do you allow yourself to ask for help and get support? I was in the middle of a crisis when I recorded this, and I wanted to share my observations; what was helpful, and what things were challenging.  You don’t have to do things alone.  What do you say or do when you are healing wounding with a parent and you want to tell them you’re an HSP and how you felt wounded? Are you able to be flexible when things change, and can you ask to have your needs met?  If not, what gets in the way? When plans change, are you able to have self-compassion for yourself and others, or do you get angry and upset that things haven’t gone as planned? 126 Self-Care for Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents with Dr. Lindsay Gibson

Self-Care for Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents Dr. Lindsay Gibson, author of Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents, and Recovering from Emotionally Immature Parents talks about self-care in regards to self-confidence, security, self-connection, self-awareness and emotional self-protection. She talks about how being an adult child impacts a person’s choices and behaviors in relationships.  She also talks about how sensitivity can affect a person’s functioning in these areas. GUEST Lindsay Gibson, PsyD. HIGHLIGHTS Here are some of the questions Dr. Gibson responds to: Tell us about your most recent book Self Care for Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents. Why did you write this book? The book has three main sections: what are they, and what can readers expect to get from each topic? Why might adult children of emotionally immature parents (ACEIPs )find these topics especially meaningful? How do you see sensitivity as a trait possibly affecting a person's functioning in these areas? Do you see a connection between sensitivity and an ACEIPs feelings of security and self-confidence? You've mentioned that ACEIPs have been taught not to trust themselves or their self-awareness. Could you talk about this a bit more? In the book you've talked about the importance of emotional self-protection. Can you explain what that means exactly? You talk about the crucial importance of a person's inner self-connection. Why do you make that idea such a central focus? How do these issues affect a person's choices and behaviors in relationship? She is the author of four books. Her book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents remains a #1 Amazon Best Seller. 125 Sitting with Intense Feelings, AND Noticing What’s Right

TITLE Sitting with Intense Feelings, AND Noticing What’s Right. GUEST Solo episode EPISODE OVERVIEW I got my feelings hurt a few times this past week, and it’s been hard.  I spent 3 days crying, and it triggered some trauma from my past.  This was NOT my baseline, but I was incredibly sensitive and kept getting my feelings hurt.  I was also able to feel the connection and support I had at the same time.  Intensity can be confused with being hard or not manageable.  I talk about ways to manage both the strong feelings, and using tools to get through times that are intense and full of big feelings. 123 Practicing Self Trust as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)

TITLE Practicing Self Trust as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) GUEST Solo episode EPISODE OVERVIEW Learning to listen to yourself as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) can be challenging.  When do you push and when do you rest? Your perception of yourself may be different than how others see you. I talk about feeling stuck, needing support, asking for help, and having someone remind me that I do better than I think I do when my husband goes out of town.  It’s ok to have human responses to things. I talk about learning to thrive as a Highly Sensitive Person. PODCAST HOST Patricia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Coach.  She knows what it’s like to feel like an outcast, misfit, and truthteller.  Learning about the trait of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), helped Patricia rewrite her history with a deeper understanding, appreciation, and a sense of self-compassion.  She created the podcast Unapologetically Sensitive to help other HSPs know that they aren’t alone, and that being an HSP has amazing gifts, and some challenges.  Patricia works online globally working individually with people, and she teaches Online Courses for HSPs that focus on understanding what it means to be an HSP, self-care, self-compassion, boundaries, perfectionism, mindfulness, communication, and creating a lifestyle that honors us  LINKS HSP Online Course--https://unapologeticallysensitive.com/hsp-online-groups/ Unapologetically Sensitive Merchandise-- https://patriciayounglcsw.com/product-category/merchandise/  Online HSP Course Materials (no group included) https://patriciayounglcsw.com/product-category/hsp-classes/  Receive the top 10 most downloaded episodes of the podcast-- https://www.subscribepage.com/e6z6e6  Sign up for the Newsletter-- https://www.subscribepage.com/y0l7d4  To write a review in itunes:  click on this link https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/unapologetically-sensitive/id1440433481?mt=2  select “listen on Apple Podcasts” chose “open in itunes” choose “ratings and reviews” click to rate the number of starts click “write a review” Website--www.unapologeticallysensitive.com Facebook-- https://www.facebook.com/Unapologetically-Sensitive-2296688923985657/ Closed/Private Facebook group Unapologetically Sensitive-- https://www.facebook.com/groups/2099705880047619/ Instagram-- https://www.instagram.com/unapologeticallysensitive/ Youtube-- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOE6fodj7RBdO3Iw0NrAllg/videos?view_as=subscriber Tik Tok-- https://www.tiktok.com/@hsppodcast e-mail-- unapologeticallysensitive@gmail.com Show hashtag--#unapologeticallysensitive  Editing by The Podcast Distillery Co.
