Ep 106 Interview Sessions with David Ditchfield NDE
Ever wondered what happens after you die? Well, hold on tight.
This week I am joined by David Ditchfield, author of Shine On. In the book, David documents the events of being dragged under a speeding train and his journey to the afterlife. Not only has David been able to recall the vivid experience, he has been able to express this through paintings and writing a symphony - and he didn't have the skillset to do either before his accident!
In this episode you will hear:
04:00 the story start with David living in London, leaving school without any qualifications
07:00 the ordeal of being dragged under a speeding train
11:50 the passengers on the train carriage come together in prayer for David
13:30 connecting with faith
15:00 the moment David thought he had died and journeyed to the after-life
18:00 love and healing
19:00 the vivid description of what it’s like being in the middle of the universe
20:45 seeing an intense tunnel of love and white light which David knew straight away was the source of the universe. It was God.
22:25 Death is not to be feared - being healed and prepared for the next stage of the afterlife
24:30 Being sent back for a reason - determined to paint what he had seen
29:00 “David, Christ was with you”
32:00 the punk rocker thrashing his way through life to writing a symphony for an orchestra
39:00 Question from Sarah
42:00 create heaven on earth by pursuing love and be in the moment
Please do go to David's website to find out more about his incredible story.
The music in the intro to this podcast is one of 3 pieces of music he wrote. This and the other two pieces are also available to listen to on his website.
I hope this conversation inspires you, sparks your curiosity, gives you peace and encourage to live from a place of love.
Always love

Did Ghandi get it wrong?
Never did I think I would challenge a quote from Ghandi but this is what I know in my heart to be true. I hope it helps in someway.

Patience is a bit like International Track & Field from the 90's
You know the one with the mad button pushing to help you run faster. Well, people and situations are always pushing our buttons. We have to imagine walking around with a track and field power bar above our heads and do what we can to keep it as empty as possible!

Ep 105 Interview Sessions with L. David Marquet
In 2017 I read a book which really inspired me as I was leading on a project to transform the culture of an emergency contact centre. That book was written by today's guest, retired Captain L. David Marquet. It was called Turn the Ship Around! a true story of turning followers into leaders. Simon Sinek described David as the kind of leader who only comes around once in a generation.
Student of leadership and organisational design, former nuclear submarine Commander, and named one of the Top 100 Leadership Speakers by Inc. Magazine. David is the Author of the Amazon #1 Best Seller: Turn the Ship Around!, and The Turn the Ship Around Workbook. David’s recently released book, Leadership is Language, is a Wall Street Journal Bestseller.
David imagines a workplace where everyone engages and contributes their full intellectual capacity, a place where people are healthier and happier because they have more control over their work–a place where everyone is a leader.
In this episode you will hear:
05:00 a confession - I like being in control but here’s how to practice relinquishing control
08:30 it’s difficult to organise humans without hierarchy - the problem is HOW we use hierarchy
10:25 Turning the Santa Fe Around! an incredible story of turning followers into leaders
16:00 the legacy of creating leaders not followers
18:45 what would it sound like if… we lived the 7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen R. Covey
20:00 Leadership is Language - how words have tremendous influence over our thinking and interactions with people
22:00 highly effective teams do not follow the industrial model of leader and doers - the language of doing is different from thinking
23:40 the language of vulnerability and curiosity
25:50 when someone gives you feedback and you want to punch them in the face! The moment you’re triggered is the most important time to be curious.
27:15 the El Faro and the out dated playbook
32:00 prove vs. improve - why expecting people to prove themselves before we trust them is backwards
35:25 the one and only step to create engagement - give your people the authority to make decisions
36:50 creating a learning and competence factory
38:30 why leaders should start their questions with HOW
41:00 the “be good” self and the “get better” self
43:00 Leadership Nudges
Be sure to read the books, check out the Leadership Nudges and keep advancing in your leadership journey.
