Be careful who you put on a pedestal
Jonny Wilkinson has recently come out and said that when he was the best in the world, he was mentally unhealthy. Be careful who you put on a pedestal. Remember there is so much you are not aware of. Especially the consequences. So make sure you focus on your journey. Sure be inspired and learn a thing or two along the way. But add it to what works FOR YOU. Never sell your peace for prizes.

Ep 189 Interview Sessions with Ryan Ramsey
On episode 189 I am joined by retired Royal Navy Commanding Officer and author Ryan Ramsey.
Ryan was on active duty in the Submarine Service from 1991 until 2014. He served onboard four diesel submarines and six nuclear powered attack submarines. His leadership and teamwork has been tested in the most arduous of conditions during an operationally focused career (seventeen patrols, of which six were in command).
He has also worked for the Royal Netherlands Navy, US Navy, and Counter Terrorism forces. The zenith of his military assignments was as captain of the nuclear-powered submarine HMS Turbulent (2008–2011), where he was privileged to serve 484 men, leading on covert clandestine missions worldwide.
Thereafter he was selected as teacher-commander of the world-renowned submarine command course Perisher. There he was responsible for teaching the next generation of nuclear submarine captains to deal with the challenges of leadership, risk-taking, and decision-making in the twenty-first century.
Ryan has completed master’s degrees in defence studies (King’s College London) and science and technology (Kingston University). He is alumni of the Windsor Leadership Programme and uses a variety of leadership training and experience to assist others for no profit.
Married to Corrinne, with two football-obsessed children, he has cut back on maintaining his skills as a qualified pilot, diver, and advanced driver to hone his skills as a football referee, which satisfies his need to manage conflict!
In this episode you will hear:
02:30 Submariner - love it or hate it!
03:30 Developing your own leadership style
07:00 the hardest part of being a captain
09:00 HMS Turbulent deployment context
10:30 troublesome to our enemies
11:30 acknowledging the whole family sacrifice
13:30 286 day deployment with no personal space
17:00 Sweaty Sunday
22:00 creating a culture where everyone has a voice
25:00 the importance of feedback
26:30 autocratic vs. democratic leadership
28:30 defining moments
32:00 training the next generation of submarine captains
34:00 mental agility, decision making, timing, consistency and leadership
37:00 what business leaders could take from the Perisher command course
39:30 training to your limits
43:00 post command blues
45:00 know yourself, understand the context and be kind

Possibility
Your affirmation to meditate or moralise upon today is: I CREAT POSSIBILITY
Allow your subconscious to reveal the possibility you create.
This will give you a clue as to what your heartprint is.
Write it down. Send your notes to podcast@abty.co.uk and book in a call www.abty.co.uk/connect if you'd like to discuss heartpint and possibility on a deeper level.
Always love
Ryan

I was nearly not a Hartley... a story of forging your own identity
I was the odd one out. The seemingly unwanted. I nearly had my last name changed to fit my step-dad and my siblings. Fortunately I didn't. It gave me the perfect opportunity to start shaping for my own family what it means to be a Hartley.
I hope this empowers you to continue to create your own identity.

Model, teach and preach - Liver King Out!
Liver King has captured my curiosity. You can check him out here and make your own mind up: www.instagram.com/liverking
He shared some wisdom on the Diary of a CEO podcast which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/78_jmynAjLw
Here's a one liner I took that I think is gold and something which I think we should all be reminded of in business, leadership and parenting.
Model it. Teach it. Preach it. In that order!
