Ep 44 Alex Epstein, Energy, Fossil Fuels & Human Flourishing. Wake Up Podcast

On Episode 44, I’m pleased to host Alex Epstein. Philosopher, energy expert, author of the Moral Case for Fossil Fuels, founder of the centre for industrial progress. We get into a whole lot of philosophy on this episode and wrap it up with a discussion about energy. We take a deep dive into the psychology of the green movement and the anti-human movement. Why are we packaging the anti-human with the positive elements of sustainability We discuss objectivism and Ayn Rand’s work. The jungle, the concrete jungle & the garden. The moral case for Fossil Fuels. At a high level. Energy density Environmental Damage done with renewables Average rate of return for energy input into renewables Energy independence with “renewables”. Myth or fact? Self sufficiency with fossil fuels. How ? Efficiency with fossil fuel innovation What do we need to work on? We didn’t get into where nuclear fits in, but you’ll get the picture. I took a moment to tie Bitcoin to energy (because it IS energy money), and make clear that in tying money to unforgeable energy, we root it in physical laws and therefore make impossible the waste, capital and innovation misallocation that’s the real core issue in the world today. This is why bitcoin fixes this. Follow Alex’s work at: https://energtytalkingpoints.com @AlexEpstein on twitter/ Check out his book on Amazon; “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels”. It’s a must read. ____________________________________ Thanks again for listening. Ep 43. Jane Gatsby on Philosophy, Liberty, Complexity, Royalism & Citadels

On Ep 43, I’m joined by Jane Gatsby, host of the Wonderland Podcast, student of complexity, philosophy, liberty. She’s a brilliant and extremely sharp young woman, with a curious mind and an extraordinary ability to simplify and explain complex topics including: What is philosophy What is epistemology What is Metaphysics? What is complexity theory? Philosophy Why does it matter / who needs it? We dig into why these fields of study and thought matter. How Complex systems are adaptive and emergent. How they use random error to their advantage (Anti-fragility) Agents, drives and signals We talk about Bell curves VS Pareto distributions Attempts by central planners to run complex systems top down, instead of leaving them to function bottom up How using empirical methods to understand social sciences and phenomena is not a great idea, and how we should in fact get rid of social sciences all together. Determinism & Liberty. - Free Will. - Are we part of the deterministic equation? - Nature & Nurture - Alan Watts & Decisions. The structure of Freedom - Politics is downstream from morality - Rights VS Responsibilities - The problem with majority (democracy) - Who watches the watchmen (what keeps the people or the government in check?) - Who is the final arbiter? - Right: Coercion via Force - Left: Coercion via Finance Anarchism “Might is Right”. Is that really nature? I’m not sure I agree with this, because might is a relative term. Competence & Merit. Royalism / Citadels. Charter city states / citadels. Trade offs to develop each along the way Lose the patch, the realm becomes worthless Protecting the borders is of highest import Private land ownership Is the royal not the private owner ? Agree that it’s that which u can defend Logging, fishing and pollution can only find equilibrium when there is a cost to the capital. That requires private property. The prince is the owner in this case, but he must remain at risk of challenge. And the challenge must come from competing private property owners. Hence the natural requirement for lords. Monopolies mean no competition 100% agree with the patchwork model But it requires competition. This is why we cannot get there without bitcoin The globalists can fund themselves through fiat, until it all blows up at least. Citadels - Scale - Remove the financial power - Competition - Separation of Money & state - Dynamic InEquality / Casts / Classes Jordan Peterson & his misunderstanding of dynamic equality. Money & Bitcoin People sitting on their savings do NOT inhibit others from creating their own wealth. People conflate money with wealth. One is fixed, the other is unlimited. Purchasing power is what counts. Income inequality is central to complexity. Earning wealth no longer requires coercion Fundamental change to existence And…Jane introduces us to 5 thinkers who have influenced her, some of which you will probably already be familiar with: - Ayn Rand - Jordan Peterson - Sam Harris - Douglas Hofstadter - Curtis Yarvin Follow her on: Twitter: @Jane_Gatsby Instagram: @JaneGatsby Linktree: https://linktr.ee/janegatsby And definitely check out her Podcast “Wonderland”: https://anchor.fm/jane-gatsby

Ep 42. The Creature from Jekyll Island with Author Edward Griffin. Wake Up Podcast

On the latest episode of Wake Up, I am joined by G. Edward Griffin, author of The Creature from Jekyll Island, Founder of the Red Pill University and The Red Pill Expo. This is a wide ranging discussion with one of the most revered authors of our time. A man who exposed the transgressions of the central banking cartels, not just in the USA, but around the world. We discuss so many things, including: What was the initial objective of the Jekyll Island meet - The formation of a cartel, leading to a monopoly. Diffusion of banking power prior to Fed Reserve - Means localised damage, and a corrective function toward better banking. The Bailout Game - Shifting losses to tax payers (socialism) The Mandrik mechanism The allure of socialism and its entry into the US system. The Fabian’s and the creation of the IMF, world bank and global socialism The conditions imposed by the IMF include mandating omnipotence on the part of the borrowing government Africa as an example. More aid, more poverty. Planned starvation and resettlement programs funded by the world bank. Conquered by money not by arms Intrinsic Value VS Objects with properties that some may find valuable. - Money should not have any commodity use - Money should be whatever each individual The difference between fiat & organic money Fiat is Enforced from the centre Organic is Chosen at the edge, ie; the level of the individual. It’s voluntary If fractional money always degenerates into fiat money, then there is no mechanism for a sound money system without global, decentralised verification. Hence bitcoin. A physical object cannot scale. Bitcoin. The reemergence of Honest Banking. Honest banking is a function of easy, cheap verifiability. Trust don’t verify. In the absence of a government bailout, we have a second form of accountability. Bankruptcy. Bitcoin makes the mandrik mechanism economically impossible. No bailout. I hope you enjoy this episode. If you’ve not read The Creature from Jekyll Island yet, I highly recommend you add it to your list. Ep 41: Atlas Shrugged, Bitcoin & Objectivism with Tomer Strolight

Tomer Strolight, host of the "For the Love of Bitcoin" Podcast, and writer of the brilliant "Why Bitcoin" series on Medium joins me on the latest Wake Up Podcast, In this episode we take a look at Bitcoin through the lens of one of the most powerful philosophers to have ever lived; Ayn Rand. Her philosophy or framework of thinking is known as "Objectivism" and is in many ways the basis for much of the Libertarian thought and Bitcoiner thought many of us align with today. Her seminal works, Fountain Head and Atlas shrugged (especially) have been inspirations for some of the greatest leaders this century, including the likes of Steve Jobs, Nick Szabo and the Cypherpunks. The Galt's gulch she discussed is the basis of the "Bitcoiner Citadels" idea, and the heroes of virtue and principle in her book are the archetypes which Bitcoiners naturally embody and whose values we adopt. This is a fantastic chat, and I urge you to pick up and digest as much of Ayn Rand's work as you can. It will profoundly impact your life, perhaps more than any other work ever written. On this week's episode I'm joined by Colin, aka; Heavily Armed Clown and Ben Prentice, the two founders of wtfhappenedin1971.com. We talk through Colin's incredible recent piece Wisdom & Law: https://heavilyarmedclown.medium.com/wisdom-and-law-e235196f4c93 We talk about each of our journeys into Bitcoin and the breadcrumbs along the way which helped each of us converge onto Bitcoin very quickly despite some initial dabbling in shitcoins. We talk about who inspired us early on, and why the "class of 2016, 2017 and 2018" Bitcoiners are some of the most revolutionary and eloquent. We discussed Chaos & Order, and how Bitcoin embodies this process. We discuss why some people "get it" and others don't, especially with intellectuals like Weinstein (who don't). We look at a few things through the Jordan Peterson Lens. And lastly the boys tell us a bit about their new WTF Happened in 2008 and 2020 projects. Ep 37: Stephan Kinsella on AnCaps, Libertarians, IP & Bitcoin. Wake Up Podcast

Stephan Kinsella is a Patent Attorney in Texas, Austrian AnCap philosopher, writer & hands down one of the smarter & most well-read people I've ever spoken to. In this ep, we discuss: - SK's Journey on Why or how he become a libertarian - Where Austrian Econ fit in? - A little about Bitcoin coming on the radar, and "fixing this". We discuss consistency of thought, principles and ideas. A little on Patent Law & Private property, although we'll probably do an Ep 2 in this. We explore: - Rand's critique on Anarchy - Rand's support of IP The difference between ownership & possession - Is Ownership is that which you can protect? - How do you prove initial possession? - How do you enforce ownership? Are the rules & norms of a community or city a sort of constitution? How do these rules scale across populations? How do you synchronise those larger scale ideas with societies that have different values, ie; the Confucian east? War is expensive only with sound money (Bitcoin fixes this) We dig into a bit about private property rights from both the Lockean view & a more tangible viewpoint inspired by Hoppe. "The entire point of property rights is to solve conflict." And I ask the question: Why are Libertarians not as widely thrilled about Bitcoin as one might expect them to be?  There was a series of books that Stephan also mentioned. I've listed them here for you: Walter Block: I chose liberty - Assortment of stories about how people became libertarians.  Randy Barnett - The structure of Liberty Hoppe - A theory of Socialism & Capitalism - Economics & ethics of Private property Mises: - Ultimate foundation of economic science Rothbard: - The logic of action 1 & 2 - Economic controversies You can follow Stephan's work at: http://c4sif.org http://www.kinsellalaw.com https://www.stephankinsella.com And of course follow him twitter @NSKinsella ____________________________________ Thanks again for listening. Ep 36. Alex Gladstein. Democracy & Bitcoin. Wake Up Podcast

I've got Alex Gladstein from the Human Right Foundation joining me on Ep 36 of Wake Up. As Bitcoiners, Gladstein & I see eye to eye on many things, but there are differences we have on what the ideal mechanisms of governance are. In this episode we explore these, and look at the past, the present and what the future may hold. Some of what we discuss: Enlightenment Values Free Speech Freedom of Association Property Rights Freedom of belief / of & from religion And how Democracy *may* have emerged from these. My View of Democracy: My contention is that progress via Democracy has been conflated with actual progress via Free markets, instead of it more accurately being represented as the parasite which has benefited from the prosperity of free markets and continued to leech resources, capacity and energy alongside. We’re only now seeing the ramifications of this. I put forward the idea that Democracy is merely: Sophisticated Theft. Democracy emerged in the west as a derivative of the prosperity created by free markets. It’s just a more sophisticated way of stealing from people. It’s quite simple actually. Give them enough space to innovate and produce, and then just take all their shit *after* the fact. It feels better initially, but it’s a much greater burden on society because it has the capacity to last. We discuss what the future holds, and I put forward the idea of Meritocratic Feudalism as the end state in a Bitcoin denominated world. This is a far reaching discussion and one that I hope you will learn alot from.
