How Can We Be More Empathetic with Our Kids
I understand that learning empathy can be a challenging journey, especially if it's not something that was modeled for us in our own upbringing. However, I've learned that empathy is a crucial component of creating a strong connection with our children. That means being present with them, especially during times of big emotions, listening with an open heart, and truly hearing what they have to say. If we can do that, we have the power to turn those moments into opportunities for connection, and that can make all the difference.Join my new Connected Parent Mastermind designed for parents who want to strengthen their connection with their children, experience more love, and reduce frustration. Punishing Aggressive Behavior Doesn’t Work
When a child starts hitting, kicking, or becoming aggressive, our initial reaction is often to punish them. However, punishing a child by sending them to time out, taking away their favorite activity, or grounding them for a weekend, does not effectively teach them right from wrong. I believe that no punishment can teach them because they already know what they did was wrong. What’s going on in these circumstances is that their prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for reasoning, is not fully developed yet, making it difficult for them to make sound decisions, which happens as adults too. Today I’ll share with you what you can do when aggressive behavior shows up in your kids.Enjoy today’s episode? Parenting Is Relationship Building Not Behavior Control
As parents, it's natural for us to want our child's bad behavior to stop. But we must remember that kids will act in childish ways because that's just what they are – kids. We need to let go of the idea that we need to find a parenting technique that will miraculously stop bad behavior and instead, shift our mindset to cultivating a long-lasting relationship with our kids.Enjoy today’s episode?
