Radio 1's Screen Time

The Wizarding World returns to cinemas this weekend with Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, so it makes perfect sense to talk to the likes of Eddie Redmayne (that there Newt Scamander) and Jude Law (one Professor Albus Dumbledore) about their characters and the fine art of wand-waving. Fun fact: these interviews took place in Watford, surrounded by props from the Harry Potter films themselves, so if you'd like to see what's going on around Jude and Eddie, by all means head to BBC Radio 1 iPlayer as and when you fancy!

Stephen Carty stops by to talk in depth about THE BATMAN (all caps very much on purpose). Listen to two nerds nerd out - in the best possible way - about Robert Pattinson's interpretation of The Caped Crusader (or, as we should say, The World's Greatest Detective) as Matt Reeves' critically-acclaimed DC film comes under the Radio 1 Screen Time magnifying glass.

Ben and Ali love talking nonsense, and here's perfect proof of that: nearly half an hour of amiable insanity as two curly-haired fast talkers sling silliness at each other in honour of Sonic The Hedgehog 2's arrival in cinemas. Expect Parks And Rec chat, The Oscars ceremony (but not that one), three second q&as and much much more. Oh, and Ali genuinely hadn't slept a wink before this all took place, so... The Oscars! The "incident"! The TV BAFTA nominations! Bruce Willis! Jared Leto! Sonic 2! The Bad Guys! Morbius! Moon Knight! So much going on, so little time. Okay, well, more time than usual but still: a lot to talk about, so much so we edited down this episode from an original 16 hour file (only slightly kidding). Moon Knight swoops down - white cape swishing oh so elegantly - on March 30th on that there Disney+, and despite the whole concept of the superhero / antihero Marvel show being more or less one massive SPOILER, Ali still manages to get something not half bad (though we say so ourselves) out of the wonderful Oscar, Ethan and May.

A short and sweet Friday podcast this week as Ali is a little poorly - don't worry however, as the stars of Michael Bay's latest explosion-filled actioner are here to talk spinning cameras and sunset shots. And hey! Oscars this weekend... Hopefully Ali will be back on form by then.

Prisoners (2013), Sicario (2015), Arrival (2016), Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and now Dune (2021) - director Denis Villeneuve has an incredible back catalogue... and then there's the likes Enemy, Incendies, Polytechnique and more. He is truly a supremely gifted filmmaker to say the very least. To celebrate the recent news that Dune Part 2 is starting prep to shoot sometime soon - for a 2023 release with a bit of luck - here's Denis's Movies That Made Me interview that you may have seen on BBC iPlayer last year, now in audio form for your podcast pleasure.

Daisy Edgar-Jones is the stupendously talented actress you'll most likely know best for playing Marianne in Normal People and now she's in a brand new movie, a black comedy horror thriller called Fresh, to be found on Disney+ in the UK right about now. In this special Friday edition of the podcast, she stops by to talk nonsense with an overexcited Ali, who's beside himself to be back in a radio studio hosting a guest like a grown-up. A very childish grown-up. You know what he's like.

The Batman is in cinemas and is a very big deal, three hours no less. Here is something much, much quicker: a supercut of Ali's short but sweet Zoom interviews with some of the cast while they were in London, including the likes of Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell and the director himself, Matt Reeves. Oh, and Zoe Kravitz and some Robert Pattinson guy.

Two pretty big movies hit streamers this weekend, namely Pixar's Turning Red on Disney+ and Ryan Reynolds' (and Shawn Levy's) sci-fi adventure The Adam Project on Netflix. Both are reviewed by Ali and returning podcast guest Clarisse Loughrey as they also tackle some of the week's biggest movie and TV news stories, including the new Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer and all those Warner Bros. film release date changes.
