No, not *that* talk. The Apologetics Talk. The fact is, we're bringing our kids up in a world that is hostile to God and biblical truth, and we know we need to prepare our children to face it confidently. And getting started can be feel like an impossible task. It doesn't have to be impossible. And you don't have to throw your kids head-first into the deep end of apologetics either. They don't need to know about metaphysics, the existential problem of evil, and the problem of Divine Hiddenness right now. Instead, there are simple steps you can take to introduce the concept of apologetics to your children now, to form a foundation you can build upon later. In this episode of the Think Podcast, we'll be talking about five simple steps for introducing your kids to apologetics, with Think Institute founder Joel Settecase. Joel is a Christian apologist and the author of Catakids! The New Covenant Catechism for Little Ones, and has been working in ministry and education for over 12 years. Specifically, you'll learn these five steps: 1. Talk about the Bible. 2. Talk about the Gospel. 3. Talk about Unbelief. 4. Talk about Apologetics. 5. Bring it back to the Gospel. Some Thoughts on Apologetics Education

LET'S TALK ABOUT APOLOGETICS EDUCATION. Trying to raise children who will grow up with the kind of faith that sticks into adulthood, while living in our non-Christian world, is a major challenge. This is true whether your church has a youth group or not, whether you homeschool or not, and whether your kids wind up going to State U or to trade school. In this episode Joel Settecase is going to answer the following questions for dads and parents (and aspiring parents) who want to know more about how to teach their kids to articulate, evangelize and defend the truth of the Christian message.Specifically, you'll learn: 3 Reasons your kids need to learn apologetics Who should teach apologetics to kids and students How apologetics fits with the Classical trivium 12 apologetics skills every high school graduate needs to have mastered. "Ride, Sally, Ride"—The Upcoming (Christian) Film About Sex Robots, Family Values and the Insanity of Woke Culture

Woke culture can't say it wasn't warned. Today on the ThinkPod we're talking about "Ride, Sally, Ride." "Ride, Sally, Ride" is being called a future true story, and it's the first film to take aim at woke culture. Based on best selling author Douglas Wilson's latest novel, "Ride Sally Ride" is a futuristic story (set not very far in the future) about sexbots, family values and our cultural rot. Smart, satirical and guaranteed to offend, the film will follow a strong-headed Christian accused of murder... for trashing a sex robot. Screenwriter and director Joseph Granda left Hollywood on his own terms. Now,  he’s coming back to take on woke culture with a perfectly-timed comedy, that might be exactly what we all need right now. It's got "murder." Fixed Juries. Romance. It’s about refusing to back down when they call you crazy. They're planning on a 2022 release, just before the mid-terms. Granda says it's time for conservatives to have a good laugh. And we can all agree that ancel culture has it coming. In this episode, you'll learn about: The story of "Ride, Sally Ride," and how it fits into today's culture. Whether "trans rights" and "sex bot rights," which "Ride, Sally, Ride" takes on, equals the diminishment of women. Why it has proven so difficult for conservatives and religious people to make significant gains in the culture. Apologetics & Evangelism In A Pub [Real Encounter] | Peter Boland (THINKPOD Bonus Episode)

Today, on a special bonus episode, a Theonomist and a NCT guy walk into a bar. A few minutes later, some good old fashioned alehouse apologetics breaks out. In this special bonus episode of the ThinkPod, you'll listen in to an after-hours conversation between Joel Settecase and Peter Boland of 5 Solas Studios. The two have theological disagreement over particular issues (Joel is a New Covenant Theologian, and Peter is a Theonomist), but both are fully committed to the truth of God's word, and the necessity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  At the recent Cruciform Conference, the two men had vigorously debated theology, and then after the conference they sat down to record an episode on brotherly unity for the 5 Solas Studios podcast. Afterward, they stopped by an alehouse somewhere in Indianapolis. As they started hanging out, Joel hit record on his phone and hit record, just in case the conversation turned out to be worth sharing. And something really incredible happened. Early on in their conversation, they had both agreed that, despite their disagreements, if an atheist were to come in and start challenging the truth of the Christian message, they would both immediately join forces and defend the truth, sharing the Gospel, in lock-step. As it turned out, that is exactly what happened.  As you'll hear at the 14:30 mark, a man approached them, as if drawn to them, and conveyed that he had heard what they were talking about.  First, the man said he thought it was wonderful that they were talking about the Bible, etc. However, as they talked and took the conversation outside, the truth came out: he was opposed to God, and he did not believe in Jesus. He also shared some difficult details from his life. You'll hear what happened next in this very special bonus episode of the Think Pod. This is a real-life evangelistic conversation between two Christians and a non-believer. It's been edited for content and to make the flow of the story more coherent for the podcast format.  In the end, they hope that Jesus was glorified, and that the truth would stick.  A quick note on the conclusion: the recording cuts out at the end. Here's what transpired afterward: in all, the three talked for about 40 minutes. After Joel presented the Gospel, the man said he believed in a supreme being, but not the God of the Bible. Joel said that a "supreme being" didn't die for his sins, but that the true God did (Joel let his Calvinism slip there, in light of the doctrine of Particular Redemption/Limited Atonement). Peter pressed him with the truth that he really did know God, and he had antipathy toward him. He ultimately got fed up, and after Joel and Peter reminded him that he approached them (not the other way around), Mike left, got into his car and drove away. If you're a believer, please pray for this man—that his eyes would be opened to the truth of the Gospel, and that he would find forgiveness and peace in Jesus. #DatPresup & Street Apologetics | Ryan Denton (ThinkPod)

Street preaching is exciting and effective, and more Christians should be doing it. But what happens when you're out on the street and someone asks you a question you can't answer? Today we're going to talk about that. 1 Peter 3:15 tells Christians to "always [be] ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you...." So, how ready are you to defend your hope in Jesus Christ? Could you do it on the street, with a passerby? Street preaching understandably freaks Christians out, (a) because people tend to be more terrified of public speaking than of death, and (b) because of the risks of that kind of encounter. What if the skeptic you're talking to knows more about the Bible than you? What if it's a Muslim who really knows her theology? We fear making fools of ourselves, misrepresenting Christ, or even having our own faith challenged. Not fun. Many say they don't like street preaching, because it's "unloving" or "turns people off from the Gospel," but perhaps the real reason so many don't tend to like street preaching boils down to fear. And guess what: the risks are real. So is there a way to overcome that fear? Is there an approach to defending the Christian message on the street—call it Street Apologetics—that can enable a Christian to feel confident enough to truly answer anyone? In this episode you will learn specifically about: The theology behind street preaching. What kind(s) of Christians should be out on the street. How to handle objections and tough questions while street evangelizing. Whether Presuppositional Apologetics is the best method for street apologetics. Today's guest is Ryan Denton, co-author of the fantastic book, A Certain Sound: A Primer on Open Air Preaching. Ryan Denton has his BA in Philosophy and English from the University of New Mexico and his MA in Liberal Arts from St. John's College. He founded Christ in the Wild Ministries in 2016 while serving as a Pastor in Navajo Nation, NM. Since then he has been engaged in gospel proclamation in the "wild" on a daily basis. Ryan lives with his wife and son in TX. He graduated from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently a ThM student at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. 10 Ways the Trinity Is Found In The OT | Dr. Igal German

Is the Trinity a Christian invention? Is it an addition (probably an unnecessary and possibly even logically incoherent one) to the more simple, obvious, unitarian concept of God? And is it true that the Old Testament teaches the absolute oneness of God? Or, on the other hand, could it be that the Old Testament points toward the Triune nature of the Godhead—and that the clues are there, if one has eyes to see?   Today's episode is going to help answer these questions once and for all.    Specifically, you'll learn:    Why it's so important to know whether the Old Testament points to the Trinity.  10 ways to find the Doctrine of the Trinity in the Old Testament.   Why the Triune Nature of God is not a logical problem for Christians.   How Dr. Igal German's work with the Yesod Bible Center educates believers and non-believers in the powerful truth of God's word.    Dr. Igal German holds a PhD in Hebrew Bible from the University of St. Michael’s College, Toronto, as well as B.A. and M.A. in Biblical Studies from the University of Haifa, Israel. Dr. German has been teaching the Bible at a variety of academic institutions in Israel, Canada, and the United States. His expertise includes Old Testament studies, Second Temple Judaism, the New Testament, Biblical and Modern Hebrew, history of Israel, history of biblical interpretation, and apologetics. Shavuot/Pentecost Explained for Believers | Roy Schwarcz (THINKPOD)

The Jewish religious festival known as Shavuot goes by many other names, like the Feast of Weeks, or First Fruits. Most Christians know it as Pentecost, and think of it as the day when the Holy Spirit was given to the church (Acts 2:1-47). But did you ever stop to think why God chose *that* day to send the Holy Spirit?    After all, the Old Covenant religious feasts all had important significance—yes, for God's people Israel then, but also for God's people today—and God never does anything without a good reason. So what was his reason for sending the Holy Spirit on Pentecost?   Today Roy Schwarcz is going to reveal the biblical importance of Shavuot, how it points to the Messiah, and what meaning believers can draw from it today.  Specifically, you will learn about:   The meaning of "Shavuot" and how the festival was to be celebrated.  The connection between the *first* first fruits, the barley harvest, and the *second* first fruits of the wheat harvest, and how these point forward to Jesus and the Holy Spirit.  How to draw on the meaning of Shavuot/Pentecost to share the Gospel with your Jewish friends, family and neighbors.  ...and more!   About Roy Schwarcz: Roy is the Midwest Regional Director of Chosen People Ministries (www.chosenpeople.com) and author of Where Jesus Walked, a book examining over 50 portions of Jesus’s life and showing how the Old Testament prophets foretold them. His teaching regularly focuses on the Jewish Holy Days and the connection between the Old and New Covenants. The Canadian Church and State Persecution | Dr. Michael Thiessen (THINKPOD)

Are Christian pastors really get thrown in jail, simply for holding church services? Did the Albertan government seriously barricade a church? If true, does this mean that Covid is raging to such extremes in the Great White North, that all of society is being shut down... or is the church being singled out for "special" treatment? Dr. Michael Thiessen joins Joel to talk about the current state of relations between the church and the Canadian government. Thiessen is co-founder and Campaign Manager for Liberty Coalition Canada. Highlights from this episode: What is the Liberty Coalition Canada, and what are they trying to accomplish? What is really going on in Canada right now? Are churches facing persecution, or is this something else? How many Christian pastors have been arrested in Canada, and why? What can American Christians do to help our Canadian brethren? The THINK PODCAST with Joel Settecase is the show that tackles impossible questions from a biblical perspective, to help you explain, share and defend the Christian message. Plausibility Structures & Raising Kids That Don't Apostatize (with Mike D'Virgilio)

Please leave our show an honest, 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcasts! Whether you’re getting ready to send your kids off to college or into the world to start lives and families of their own (eventually), or you’re looking at starting their families in the immediate future, you’re going to want to listen closely to today’s conversation.  Every Christian father feels concern about his kids growing up and staying in the faith. And this is a very valid concern given the stats. It’s reported that 70% of  kids who grow up attending church will leave the church when they leave home. Of those, only about half will return to church. “Generation Z has established itself as the most non-Christian in US history.” (Source) In other words, the odds seem to be that, no matter how you raise them, your kids will grow up and no longer call themselves Christians. And if they don’t do this, then their kids will. This of course is troubling, not just for the state of the Church, but because we’re talking about our kids, and their eternal souls, in light of the fact that the wages of sin is death, and the gift of God is eternal life only in Christ Jesus our Lord. So people are rightly concerned, and much ink has been spilled in addressing this matter. But today we’re going to tackle it from the perspective of someone who does not think your kids are doomed irrespective of how you raise them. My guest today believes so strongly that you can keep your kids from falling away, that he wrote a book about it. Specifically, in this episode you’ll learn about: Why so many young people are growing up and leaving the church—and whose fault that is. What a plausibility structure is, and how to foster correct ones in your kids’ thinking. Some best practices for teaching your kids the kind of perspective on the world that makes them laugh—laugh—at the world’s false messages. Wisdom for young parents, and soon-to-be-parents, for getting their kids on the right track early. Joel’s guest for this episode is Mike D’Virgilio. A graduate of Arizona State University, Mike received a Masters degree in systematic theology from Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, and spent his career in public relations, sales, and marketing. He’s a church elder and has led a Christ & Culture ministry for several years. He writes at The Persuasive Christian Parent: http://persuasivechristianparent.com/, for those who are parents and those who are not. He is also writing his way through the Bible at https://mikedvirgilio.wordpress.com/, a deeply theological and often apologetic perspective on Scripture.
