How did the Lord Jesus and the Apostle Paul contend for the truth? Is it true that they used presuppositional apologetics? Spoiler alert: yes they did. This course will examine the biblical, presuppositional method and analyze five apologetic encounters of Jesus and Paul, drawing out what they did, how they did it, and what we can learn from them. This is Session 6, taking a close look at Paul's encounter with the Stoic and Epicurean philosophers in Athens as recorded in Acts 17:16-34. Apologetics AMA: Sola Scriptura, "LGBTQ+", Suicide, Process Theology, (and more) [9/9/2021]

This is an Apologetics AMA (Ask Me Anything) Joel Settecase recently did on the Politics Server on Discord. Questions answered in this AMA: Can God make a rock so big he can't lift it?  How can Sola Scriptura be true if Scripture never lists the books of the canon?  Why does God hate LGBTQ+ folx? Which is more accurate—16th Century paintings of angels or the biblical descriptions?  What is your moral view on suicide? How can salvation be by faith alone when both regeneration and justification are necessary? Does interfaith dialogue bring us all closer to our experience of God, a la Process Theology?   Check out the Politics server here: https://discord.gg/TrtkGbBY Follow us! http://facebook.com/thethinkinstitute http://twitter.com/thinkinst http://mewe.com/i/thinkinstitute http://gab.com/thinkinstitute Support the Settecase Family & Think Institute: https://give.cru.org/1018841 Listen to the Think Podcast on 11 podcast platforms: https://anchor.fm/the-think-podcast Get a free catechism, slide presentations and books: http://thethink.institute/catakids. How to Pick—and Stick With—the Right Church (Tim Smith Co-hosts)

As we talk about all the time on the ThinkPod, it's our responsibility as dads to lead our family in defending the Christian message. Of course this means we need to lead our family in learning the Christian message, and living out the Christian lifestyle, and that means being part of a healthy church—and making meaningful contributions to it. Now I don't advocate church hopping; I am a big believer in putting down roots in a church family. Rather than leave when things get tough, I like to see guys staying put and working to improve their church. However, sometimes a church abandons sound doctrine, or you have to relocate, or other factors happen and it becomes unavoidable: you need to find a new church. When that happens, you need to be prepared. The quest to find and join the right church is important enough when it's just you, but it becomes especially harrowing when there are others who are directly, and deeply, impacted by your decision. Last year in 2020, my family went through this when Aliza and I moved from Chicago to the Tri-Cities of Illinois and joined Redeemer Fellowship in St. Charles. In today's episode I'm talking with my friend Tim Smith about how to find the right church. Tim is a longtime member at Redeemer. He's also a tradesman (you should see the work he's doing on his house right now), and an aspiring church planter. So he's the right man to have this conversation with, as he himself is considering what makes a church a good one and the right fit for a man and his family. I think our conversation is going to help you not just find a solid church (if that's what you need right now or in the future), but also to work to make your current church even more solid, biblical and thriving. And now, listen to this laid-back, informal conversation between Tim Smith and myself. Aliens, Nephilim, Dinosaurs & the Bible: What Christian Men Need to Know | Guest: Dr. Jonathan Sarfati

I've brought on Dr. Jonathan Sarfati for this episode. He was requested by one of our listeners, and he has authored some of the most popular and powerful books on the issues of origins, strongly defending biblical (‘young earth’) creation and refuting the strongest arguments for evolution and millions of years. Jonathan is also a chess master and former New Zealand chess champion. He's truly a fascinating guy, and I think you're going to really enjoy—and be helped by—what he has to say about nephilim, dinosaurs, aliens, and fatherhood. Dr. Sarfati talks about: Were the nephilim offspring of angels? Was genetic manipulation going on before the Flood? Were nephilim… neanderthals? How did dinosaurs and other megafauna survive at such extreme sizes? What is his theory on the possibility of alien life? How can dads lead their families in understanding nephilim, aliens, etc.? Is a "broken gene" evidence of common human-ape ancestry? Are there different "kinds" of birds? Could Dr. Sarfati beat Tim McGrew at chess? Is the age of the earth a primary or secondary issue? Principles for Humble Evangelism (Blake Long on "Gospel Smugness")

ThinkSquad, have you ever had one of those moments where you wrap up a conversation with someone, and then you get back to your car and reflect back on it, and you think, "Man, I regret just about everything I just said. I think I came off like a royal jerk. Not good." I've been there. Many, many times. Maybe you have too. And one of the worst times to feel that way is after you've just shared the Gospel with someone. When you're evangelizing is one time when you especially don't want to come off like a douche. So how do you avoid this? How do we avoid being smug, yet without being so "humble" that we water down the message? To answer this question I brought on author and blogger Blake Long. Blake and I discuss his book Gospel Smugness, in which he argues that the Gospel is offensive enough without us unnecessarily adding to the offense. We discuss The importance of "reading the room" when sharing the Gospel How empathy factors in to evangelism (and why it's not a sin) What it really means to speak the truth in love Why "arrogant Calvinist" should be an oxymoron Don't miss this entertaining and informative conversation that will give you some solid principles for humble evangelism, with this up-and-coming Christian thinker, Blake Long.
