Session 1 of 6: The Apologetics of Jesus & Paul [Intro to Biblical Presuppositionalism]

How did the Lord Jesus and the Apostle Paul contend for the truth? Is it true that they used presuppositional apologetics? Spoiler alert: yes they did. This course will examine the biblical, presuppositional method and analyze five apologetic encounters of Jesus and Paul, drawing out what they did, how they did it, and what we can learn from them. This is Session 1, laying out an introduction to biblical, presuppositional apologetics and setting the stage for the next five sessions.  Follow us! http://facebook.com/thethinkinstitute http://twitter.com/thinkinst http://mewe.com/i/thinkinstitute http://gab.com/thinkinstitute Support the Settecase Family & Think Institute: https://give.cru.org/1018841 Listen to the Think Podcast on 11 podcast platforms: https://anchor.fm/the-think-podcast Get a free catechism, slide presentations and books: http://thethink.institute/catakids. [2019] How to Raise Kids Who Can Defend the Faith

Here's something to think about, ThinkSquad: what's your number one goal for your kids? As I speak, we've just started our two oldest in soccer camp. Neither one of them has any experience with soccer (Jakob has done karate and martial arts), but Aliza and I recognize the value of team sports, and soccer is a great one for developing teamwork, perseverance, thoughtfulness, and courage. These are all virtues we want to help our kids develop—but developing these isn't our greatest goal for them. Our greatest goal in our parenting is to teach our kids to serve and glorify God through Jesus Christ—in every area of life. That has implications for how they play sports, as well as for how they treat their teammates… and for the conversations they get into after practice. As their father, I want to know: are my kids ready to articulate and defend the Christian message? How about yours? Are they ready? In today's episode, that's what I'm talking about.  We look at three keys: Principles, Practice and Prayer. How to Evangelize Your Gay Neighbors (Without Affirming Their Lifestyle)

*Concerns about this episode? Please get in touch here.  Welcome to the NEW ThinkPod, helping dads lead their families in defending the Christian message. Today, we're going to talk about how to share the Gospel with your gay neighbors, in a Christlike and loving way, without affirming them in their lifestyle. To do this, we're going to need help. This is why I've brought on Sam Allberry for today's episode. Sam is a pastor, apologist, and public speaker who has done extensive work in the subject area of same sex attraction and the church. His books include Why Bother With Church?, 7 Myths About Singleness, What God Has to say about our Bodies, and Is God Anti-Gay? Questions Sam Answers: What project is Sam most excited about now? (Get his new book, and many others, here). What terminology is most biblical and helpful to use for our gay neighbors? How can we share the Gospel with our gay neighbors without seeming like we’re affirming their lifestyle What’s the best way to get started in evangelizing our same sex attracted neighbors? What happens when one or both partners in a “gay marriage” becomes a Christian? What if there are children involved? What happens to them? What practical advice does Sam have for fathers who want to lead their families well in this? Is same-sex attraction sinful? And many more.... Apologetics AMA: Pt. 3: More "Impossible" Qs From Another Discord

This is Part 3 of a 3-part Apologetics AMA with Joel Settecase on the Politics Server on Discord. Questions answered in this part: What is the best hermeneutic system for interpreting the Bible? Is it really possible to interpret the Bible in a certain way (like Jesus)? Doesn't every heretical sect use the same Bible? What do you think of newer Bible translations, and why do some pastors only use the KJV? N.B. The next two questions may be inappropriate for younger listeners. Parental discretion is advised. Appropriate content resumes at about the 30-minute mark. Does Leviticus 18:22 prohibit all relationships except for lesbian ones? Would a same-sex relationship in which the partners weren't physically intimate still be sinful? Did evil exist before the Fall of Man? Before creation? Apologetics AMA: Pt. 2, More “Impossible” Qs

This is Part 2 of a 3-part Apologetics AMA (Ask Me Anything) with Joel Settecase on the Politics Server on Discord. Questions answered in this part: Why do theists credit "miracles" to God, but blame bad events and catastrophes on "free will?" [Joel's response to the free will defense answer to the problem of evil]. If Jesus is the Old Testament God, and that God commanded Israel to kill the Amalekite children, then how can Jesus be good? Why is Christianity declining in the West? If Jesus said "The Father is greater than I," then how can they be equals? Pt 2: Apologetics AMA (on Discord) with Joel Settecase [July 1, 2021]

This is Part 2 of a 3-part Apologetics AMA (Ask Me Anything) with Joel Settecase on the Politics Server on Discord. N.B. The first question Joel was asked is inappropriate for children. If your kids are listening, or if you'd rather skip it yourself, go to the 6:00 mark.  Questions answered in this part: What does the Bible say about [a certain conjugal act]? Is medical marijuana biblically permissible? How can the Church be the (mystical) body of Christ, if Christ's [actual] body ascended to Heaven? Why does predication presuppose God? Should the Book of Enoch be in the Bible? Is the Bible's historical timeline way off? How is Genesis 1 literal, if God [purportedly] created earth time on the 4th day? Pt. 1: Apologetics AMA (on Discord) with Joel Settecase [July 1, 2021]

This is Part 1 of a 2-part Apologetics AMA (Ask Me Anything) with Joel Settecase on the Politics Server on Discord. Questions answered in this part:  What made Joel believe Christianity was true? How could a good God allow evil? God didn't give the promise of blessing to Judah, so how did he get the promise? (based on a misunderstanding of the biblical history) Isn't belief in the Bible a leap of faith?  If God is omnipotent and omniscient, then He needs nothing and desires nothing. So why did He create the universe? Immigration Crisis—A Christian Response | Erwin Lutzer (ThinkPod)

Learn more about supporting the Think Institute: https://give.cru.org/1018841 The United States of America is facing an immigration crisis at our southern border, as of the time of this writing, June 29, 2021. Is this an issue that is irrelevant to Christians? And if not, then how do we consider the immigration crisis from a biblical perspective? How does the Christian worldview interact with the issue of immigration? To help us answer these questions, Erwin Lutzer returns to the Think Podcast (catch his previous appearance here). If you don’t already know who he is, Pastor Lutzer has over four decades (!) of pastoral ministry experience (including a long stint as the lead pastor of Moody Church in Chicago), and he’s the author of the new book We Will Not Be Silenced. In this episode, Erwin Lutzer and Joel Settecase talk about immigration and specifically… The distinction between the role of the church to show compassion and the responsibility of the state to protect citizens. The need for a logical, legal immigration process. The problem with the statement, “Our diversity is our strength.” What the Bible teaches about immigration. Why the example of Jesus’s family fleeing to Egypt is not a good argument for open borders. What we can learn from the Old Testament Law about immigration. Why it is vital for immigrants to assimilate to American values. What the essential American values are, including freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, and freedom of thought. Why the battle within our borders with the Radical Left is an even greater battle than the one outside our borders. How, while most Muslim immigrants integrate into American society perfectly well, there are radical Islamic elements who want to use American liberties to subvert those same liberties. The amazing opportunity for evangelism presenting itself to the American church right now. All this from Erwin Lutzer, who is himself an immigrant to the United States, and whose family immigrated to Canada from Germany! Do not miss this important episode. The Deeper, Philosophical Meaning of the Book of Job | Owen Anderson (ThinkPod)

The problem of suffering has been with humanity since the very beginning. And no book of the Bible addresses this problem more directly than the book of Job. But what is the meaning of the book? How should we really understand Job's story? And is it possible that the majority of commentators are missing something important here?  In this episode, Dr. Owen Anderson helps us get to the true, deeper, philosophical meaning of Job. Owen has been teaching philosophy and religious studies for more than two decades and is a professor of philosophy and religious studies at Arizona State University. His research focuses on general revelation and related questions about reality, value, and knowledge. He has been a fellow at Princeton University, a visiting scholar at Princeton Seminary, and a fellow at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has published several books including "Job: A Philosophical Commentary" (2021), in which he argues that it is Job, not the Greeks, who was the earliest philosopher.  Specifically, you will learn:  Why Owen Anderson believes Job is the earliest work of true philosophy.  Why we should view Job as a philosophical conversation.  What is the deepest problem being addressed in the book of Job?  Whether Job had been sinning, and why he was still called "blameless."  What's up with Job's 10 kids.  How Job's interpreters have gotten him wrong over the years.  The deep, philosophical meaning of Job. And much, much more.
