If you’re a Christian, like me, then you believe that the view of the world and life presented by the Bible is the true one. The most basic, most fundamental teaching of the Bible is that God is there. The Triune God of Scripture lives. God Himself is the ultimate explanation for why there is stuff like logic, morality, human dignity, the laws of physics and science, etc. You take Him out, and you lose all those things. Sure, adherents of non-Christian worldviews want to lay claim to all that stuff, but they don’t have a leg to stand on. Their worldviews don’t provide them an adequate basis to account for—to explain—all that “stuff!” So they must steal from our worldview. That’s what we’re talking about today. What is the Gospel? Could you answer that question in simple terms, to a person who was unfamiliar with our Christian jargon? The Gospel is so crucial that the Apostle Paul Himself called it a matter of “first importance” in 1 Corinthians 15:3, so we'd better figure it out quickly. Can you be saved without being baptized? This came up in conversation with a friend recently. I found out they were attending a Church of Christ church. And I knew this about the Church of Christ—they teach that water baptism is actually necessary for salvation. Maybe you have a friend who believes this. And maybe they believe it about infant baptism, or about immersion. Either way, this is a question you need to know how to answer. Maybe you’ve even wrestled with it yourself.
