#26 How to Explain the Gospel in Simple Terms Today | Guest: Joe Thorn

What is the Gospel? Could you answer that question in simple terms, to a person who was unfamiliar with our Christian jargon? The Gospel is so crucial that the Apostle Paul Himself called it a matter of “first importance” in 1 Corinthians 15:3, so we'd better figure it out quickly. To help us answer this question, we’re joined today by someone who has helped to deepen my own understanding of the Gospel, Joe Thorn. Joe Thorn is a good friend and has been my family’s pastor since we became members of Redeemer Fellowship in St. Charles, Illinois in 2021. He has written books like Note to Self and Experiencing the Trinity, and he is an extremely based, and gospel-based teacher of the word. In this episode you’ll learn: • How the Gospel finally clicked for Joe Thorn, the former Satanist—and what happened next. • Why Paul says the Gospel is “of first importance” in 1 Corinthians 15:3. • Why God doesn’t just save his elect directly, rather than using us. • Who is the audience of God’s theater of redemption? • What the Gospel actually is. • How Jesus’ death 2000 years ago can pay for our sins today. • Where we go wrong in defining and sharing the Gospel. • Whether the Gospel is the dividing line between true and false churches. • How to share the Gospel without gimmicks. ---- Resources: The THINK Method Full Guide (Free): https://thethink.institute/thinkmethod/ NET Bible (with epic footnotes): https://netbible.org/bible/ Free Bible Commentaries from BibleHub: https://biblehub.com/commentaries/ ---- Please support this work! #24 Is Baptism Necessary for Salvation?

Can you be saved without being baptized? This came up in conversation with a friend recently. I found out they were attending a Church of Christ church. And I knew this about the Church of Christ—they teach that water baptism is actually necessary for salvation. Maybe you have a friend who believes this. And maybe they believe it about infant baptism, or about immersion. Either way, this is a question you need to know how to answer. Maybe you’ve even wrestled with it yourself. In this debate episode, you’ll learn: Whom should be baptized? Does baptism cause your sins to be forgiven? Why does Peter say “Baptism saves you” in 1 Peter 3:20–22? And is baptism necessary for salvation? Then, you’ll hear my dialogue with the gentleman about baptism. ---- Resources: https://thethink.institute/articles/10-arguments-for-paedobaptism-with-credobaptist-responses ---- Want to help us reach tens of thousands of Christian men with the resources to lead their families in the Christian worldview? #23 How to Become More Strategic In Defending Your Faith | Guest: Greg Koukl

Which tactics and questions should you be using to defend the truth of the Christian worldview? Today we’re joined by Greg Koukl. Greg is a Christian apologist, and he has debated new age teacher Deepak Chopra and atheist historian of science Michael Shermer.  He’s the author of the book Tactics: A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions. In it he lays out several strategic moves you can make in conversation with non-Christians. And he’s going to discuss three of those with us today. In this episode, you’ll learn: PART ONE: • Is Greg a Presuppositionalist? • How Greg debated Deepak Chopra. • How to debate someone with unconventional views. PART TWO: • How to use the “Columbo” tactic in apologetics. • How to use the “Inside-Out” tactic. • How to use the “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” tactic. ---- Resources: Stand to Reason: https://STR.org Tactics, 10th Anniversary Edition: https://store.str.org/purchase/tactics-10th-anniversary-edition ---- Please help support the Think Institute! #22 How to Debate Evolution with an Atheist

Does being a Christian really make sense in the 21st Century? Or has evolutionary theory turned the Bible’s accounts of a six-day creation, several thousand (not billion) years in the past, and Noah’s flood, and even Jonah and the whale (or sea monster), into relics from an unscientific, ignorant past? In this debate episode, you’ll learn: How to respond when someone says “science says” the events of the Bible never happened. Why the combo of evolution and atheism together form a defeater for all beliefs (including atheism!). How to avoid getting dragged into a debate about rock layers with an evolutionist. Why, when it comes to how we interpret evidence, worldview is everything. ---- Resources: “Does The Geologic Column Prove Evolution?” https://www.icr.org/article/does-geologic-column-prove-evolution/ “Do Fossils Show Signs of Rapid Burial?” https://answersingenesis.org/fossils/how-are-fossils-formed/do-fossils-show-signs-of-rapid-burial/ “Doesn’t the Order of Fossils in the Rock Record Favor Long Ages?” https://answersingenesis.org/fossils/fossil-record/doesnt-order-of-fossils-in-rock-favor-long-ages/ “Grand Canyon strata show geologic time is imaginary” https://creation.com/grand-canyon-strata-show-geologic-time-is-imaginary ---- Please support this work! #20 Should America Be a Christian Nation? | Debate

Today we’re going to answer the question—Should the United States of America be a Christian nation? Recently I did a “Debate Stage” on the Discord Politics server, and this is what we discussed. After my opening statement, I respond to the seven different debate partners, who raise the following challenges: • Would a Christian nation violate basic rights? • Did we really used to be a Christian nation? • Can Christianity take credit for civilizational advancements and moral teachings? • Is Sharia law superior to biblical Christianity? • In a Christian nation, how much force could Christians use? • Would it be better if the state was seen as supreme? • Why isn’t atheism a better foundation than Christianity? • How would we reconcile all the various Christian denominations? • Does the Bible teach the principles of a constitutional republic? ---- Resources: GET YOUR FREE PDF GUIDE: "SHOULD AMERICA BE A CHRISTIAN NATION?" https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5cc32cb2ea60fa00015deb26/t/63361509e994b42c673c75a3/1664488714752/Should+America+Be+a+Christian+Nation++pdf+Guide.pdf Vindiciae Contra Tyrannos: A Defense of Liberty Against Tyrants: https://canonpress.com/products/vindiciae-contra-tyrannos-a-defense-of-liberty-against-tyrants  ---- Join the ThinkSquad community: https://facebook.com/groups/thinksquad ---- Subscribe to the Think Institute YouTube Channel! #19 Why I Believe Science and Christianity Don't Conflict

Is there a conflict between science and faith? According to a recent report from Pew Research, “Some 59% of Americans say science and religion are often in conflict, while 38% say the two are mostly compatible. Is the majority correct? Are science and Christian faith in conflict? It’s time to unpack this question. Along the way, We will also answer these questions: • What are two kinds of invisible, immaterial laws that we must presuppose in order to engage in science? • What are “induction” and "uniformity in nature," and how do they point to God? • Where does the Bible teach that God designed the world in a way that points to Him? • What is the evolutionary argument against naturalism? • What is the problem of limited knowledge, and how does it point to God? What we're going to see is that science needs Jesus. We'll discover this by looking at three things: The invisible laws of math and logic Uniformity in nature The human mind itself. ---- Resources:  Perception of Conflict Between Science and Religion (Pew Research):  https://www.pewresearch.org/science/2015/10/22/perception-of-conflict-between-science-and-religion/ Science and God, with Lucas Giolas (podcast episode): https://thethink.institute/articles/science-and-god-with-lucas-giolas Why Science Needs Jesus (podcast episode): https://thethink.institute/articles/why-science-needs-jesus ---- Join the ThinkSquad community: https://facebook.com/groups/thinksquad Subscribe to the Think Institute YouTube Channel! #18 Is Jesus Yahweh? | New Covenant Christian vs Hebrew Roots Arian (Informal Debate w Sean Griffin)

How do you handle it when you find yourself in a conversation with someone whose religious views don’t fit neatly into any one category? Last year I was invited on to the channel of a guy named Sean Griffin. Mr. Griffin’s views are very unique. If you’ve wondered about the Hebrew roots movement, or you’ve been wondering how essential belief in the Trinity is, or you are the kind of guy who enjoys hearing and learning from a theological debate or discussion, this episode is for you. ---- Specifically, we address: • How many plans does God have for the world? • What does it mean to obey God’s commands and live? • Should the Old Covenant be interpreted in light of the New Covenant? • Was the Old Covenant Law for the righteous or the unrighteous? (1 Timothy 1:9) • Are we in the New Covenant Yet? • What does it mean to be righteous in the New Covenant? (Hebrews 8:11–13; Jeremiah 31:31–34)? • What is the Gospel? • What “paradise” did the thief on the cross go to? (Luke 23:43) • Whose death made Jesus the mediator of the New Covenant? (Hebrews 9:15) • Are we free from God’s commands in the Old Covenant or not? • Does Sean believe in God’s triune nature, and that Jesus is Yahweh? • What did Jesus mean when He said, “Before Abraham was, I am?” (John 8:58) • Are Arians and Christians actually “brothers?” Resources: Original Video: Joel Settecase on “Kingdom In Context” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8zuR1h9Nrc ---- Join the ThinkSquad community: https://facebook.com/groups/thinksquad ---- Subscribe to the Think Institute YouTube Channel!
