The risk of cancer, heart disease, and other ailments is very real and this episode has the science to prove it. Dr. Neal Barnard and Mark Kennedy, Esq. join "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to discuss this controversial research that defies the conclusions of scores of research and the World Health Organization which declared red and processed meats to be carcinogenic to humans. A Major Victory For Animals!
On a bonus episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, we are celebrating a major victory for animals! The lives of hundreds of thousands of mice, rabbits and other mammals will be spared thanks to a new directive by the Environmental Protection Agency. The agency is eliminating all chemical testing on mammals by 2035 and the tests will begin to be phased out long before then! "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll is joined by Kristie Sullivan, MPH, Physicians Committee vice president for research policy, to learn exactly when the changes will begin to occur, how the decision could urge other agencies to follow suit, and even how this will affect the products that might be in your home. You'll also learn about innovative non-animal testing methods that are more accurate and effective, prevent unnecessary suffering, and save the lives of many animals. But as you'll hear there is still much work to be done! Chuck and Kristie also talk about the next steps to continue ending animal testing in labs and medical schools and how you can help! Debunking Myths with Dr. Neal Barnard & Dr. Robert Ostfeld
Are vegans really more likely to have a stroke than meat eaters? In this jam packed episode of The Exam Room Podcast™, Dr. Neal Barnard joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to debunk that myth and take a close look at a recent study that found that to be the case. As you'll hear, the conclusion was drawn after researchers adjusted data from the study. Find out why this happened as Dr. Barnard sheds light on this method as well as a conversation he had with the authors of the study. You'll also learn the difference between hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes and how the risk differs for meat eaters compared to those who eat a plant-based diet. Then, Chuck is joined by Dr. Robert Ostfeld to take a closer look at the health claims of the Atkins Diet. The low-carb, high fat diet is making a comeback thanks to a new wave of marketing. "As a cardiologist, I think the Atkins Diet is a mistake," Ostfeld definitively stated. It's a mistake he says that goes beyond an increased risk of heart disease and cancer. Because you'll find out how the effects of the diet stretch all the way into the bedroom where a lack of fruits and vegetables can impact erectile function! GREGORY J. Losing Weight and Changing Lives
A doctor has changed her life by adopting a plant-based diet and is now using her experience to transform the lives of her patients. Dr. Vanita Rahman joins "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll to talk about how she overcame her own battle with obesity and why she's sharing that experience and what she's learned. Her journey to health began years earlier when her family immigrated to the United States from India. It wasn't long before she began gaining weight on the standard American diet. As Chuck and Dr. Rahman discuss, weight gain is difficult for any teenager let alone one who is trying to make friends in a new country. It wasn't until years later when her own health began to deteriorate that she turned to a vegan diet for help and it wasn't long before she began to see results and started feeling better. She became so inspired by her transformation that she's paying it forward with a new weight loss program at The Barnard Medical Center. Chuck is also joined by Nolan Rodman and Dr. Hana Kahleova to find out how Nolan's transition to a plant-based diet is progressing. In part 1 of the interview, Nolan was getting ready to try going vegan for the first time. How is he feeling now? What did Dr. Kahleova discover about his transition? They've run the tests and the results are in! -- Follow Us -- Chuck Carroll Twitter: @ChuckCarrollWLC IG: @ChuckCarrollWLC Physicians Committee Twitter: @PCRM IG: @PhysiciansCommittee Weight Loss Program https://wghtloss.cc/2mfHGaT Share the Show Please subscribe and give the show a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or many other podcast providers. Game Changing Science: The Truth About Vegan Athletes
"Someone asked me how could you get as strong as an ox without eating meat? My answer was, 'have you ever seen an ox eating meat?'" - Patrik Baboumian, record-setting Strongman, from The Game Changers. That is the epiphany of a hulking gentleman who squats the equivalent of five kegs of beer or two and half full-grown panda bears. Baboumian is truly one of the strongest men in the world and he is fueled exclusively a vegan diet. On this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll goes one-on-one with Dr. Jim Loomis who is featured in The Game Changers documentary. For years he was tasked with keeping million dollar athletes healthy as a team physician for both the St. Louis Cardinals baseball franchise as well as the Rams NFL franchise. Loomis reveals the mind-boggling list of foods the average player will eat on game day and why switching their diet could improve their performance on the field. More importantly, he also details how he overcame a series of health issues after switching to a plant-based diet himself. The change was so dramatic that he was able to complete an iron man triathlon shortly after his 60th birthday! We also hear from a young man who is trying a plant-based diet for the first time. He is fairly athletic, loves to play sports recreationally, and looking for a little bit of an edge. So what will he discover? Find out with us as we track his "vegan curious" journey.
