Join our mailing list for fresh pickings and exclusive deals on upcoming courses! https://www.theexercisemechanic.com/upcoming-courses • • • Greg is a physiotherapist, chiropractor and strength and conditioning specialist who treats musculoskeletal disorders within a biopsychosocial model. He is also a continuing education provider who offers courses to health and fitness professionals through out the world. His course Reconciling Biomechanics with Pain Science (which I’ve taken) and Running Resiliency have been taught more than 100 times in more than 40 countries and 5 continents world wide. 020 - Posture and Threat with Mathieu Boule, DO, Posturologist (CIES)

Join our mailing list for fresh pickings and exclusive deals on our upcoming courses! https://www.theexercisemechanic.com/upcoming-courses • • • Today we are joined by Mathieu Boule, he’s an Osteopath and posturologist based out of Quebec, Canada who is the founder of the IP Institute. Mathieu teaches his courses not only in North-America, but also throughout Europe and has worked with both high-level athletes and the everyday person who wants to have less pain and feel better in their body. Of the many topics we discussed perhaps the one that got me thinking the most was the merit of the often unacknowledged and overlooked “bottoms-up” approach to care and human optimization. Amongst many other things, Mathieu claims that given that the majority of human function lies outside of conscious awareness (and is driven, controlled and modulated via bottom-up mechanisms) that we should take more of a bottom-up approach to human optimization. To be clear, he takes the stance that this approach would not only be useful in athletic pursuits and pain management, but also when working with attention regulation “disorders”, ADHD, autism and more. 019 - Trauma Informed Care with Pamela Fitch, M. AD. ED., RMT

For over thirty years, Canadian massage therapy educator, writer, researcher and long-time practitioner, Pamela Fitch, has explored professional, ethical and communicative challenges faced by manual therapists. She remains particularly interested in how massage therapy affects clients who have experienced trauma, post-traumatic stress and complex pain conditions. Pam brings her commitment to client centered care into the classroom as a faculty member of the massage therapy program at Algonquin College. She has received several awards including the Laurent Isabelle Award for excellence in teaching, and the President's Star Award from Algonquin College. She was awarded by the Ontario Massage Therapist Association the Meritorious Service Award and the President's Award of Merit. Pam has taught across Canada, the US and Hong Kong. Her workshops (which I’ll highlight in a moment) explore ethical challenges, the massage therapeutic relationship, massage therapy and trauma, and the treatment of scars. Pam is also the author of the book “talking body, listening hands”, and she also offers a seminar under the same name, which (and these are my words) aims to impress upon manual therapists the importance and impact of how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally with our clients and patients. 017 - Ortho & Personal Training with Dr. Chris Raynor

Dr. Chris Raynor is an orthopedic surgeon, person trainer, entrepreneur and industry disruptor. He and his team at Human 2.0 in Ottawa aim to provide end to end care for post-operative cases, rehabilitative cases and what we call "healthy normals". He and his team are not afraid to stray from the beaten and I daresay outdated path that most rehab protocols are routed in, as a means to empower his patients and clients out of pain. Chris and I’s conversation was both refreshing and informative – he’s definitely the kind of person that brings a wide breadth of knowledge to the table and evidently he’s willing to share it with anyone if it helps move his mission forward. We discussed the key principles of rehabilitation, types of pain, how to become more resilient against future injury, and what are in his opinion key bottlenecks to progress both in the training and rehabilitative arenas. Enjoy!
