In this episode Arash and Professor Jill Cook of Melbourne, Australia talk about tendon pain. This podcast goes over what tendinopathies are, common myths with tendinopathies, and where the research is currently at with tendon pain. We then dive into how most of these tendon pathologies are often treated best on the latest evidence. Jill Cook is a physiotherapist who after a clinical career of 20 years has become primarily a musculoskeletal researcher. Her main interests are in connective tissue function, injury, and healing. Her particular interests are risk factors for tendon injury and the tendon in growth and development. She is currently working in the Musculoskeletal Research Centre at La Trobe University and at the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research at Deakin University. Jill currently supplements her research by conducting a specialist tendon practice and by lecturing and presenting workshops both in Australia and overseas. In this episode, Arash and Dr. Bret Contreras discuss how you can train the glute, specifically with the barbell hip thrust. We talk about some simple tricks when first beginning glute training. Bret breaks out his rule of thirds used to maximize glute hypertrophy and build foundational strengths. One of the last points Bret discussed is: does a bigger muscle equal a stronger muscle? Bret Contreras is an expert on glute training. Bret has his Ph.D. in Sports Science from AUT University, Master's Degree from Arizona State University, and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist with Distinction from the National Strength & Conditioning Association. In this episode, Craig and Tyler discuss all things sports science. Sports science is an evolving field and Tyler has been at the forefront of it for the past 7 years. Tyler gives us some insight into the field and his interesting role with the team. This talk includes what defines sports science, testing for athletes, utilized technology, and how Tyler analyzes data points to bridge gaps of communication with the entire team to optimize athletic performance on the field. Tyler is the manager of Sports Science for the NFL Los Angeles Rams and is going into his 13th season with the team, 5th season managing sports science. His role with the LA Rams is to utilize different technologies and data to enhance performance decision making and increase collaboration between all departments involved in player performance. Tyler attended Truman State University and got his Masters from the University of Penn. He is entering his 3rd year as Director of Internal Education for PFATS in the NFL and first year as a soft tissue subcommittee member for the NFL Musculoskeletal Committee. Enjoy!
