#37 | Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Business with Dr. Catherine Logan

In this episode, Mike chat's with Dr. Catherine Logan, MD, MBA, MSPT is a sports medicine Orthopedic Surgeon and writer, as well as a former physical therapist and personal trainer who also happens to hold a masters of business association. Through our conversation, we learned about her career path, how her past experiences as a physical therapist have influenced her practice as an orthopedic surgeon today and her thoughts on the future of medicine and healthcare in the United States. She drops a lot of great advice for any aspiring young professionals or students on how to arm yourself with the knowledge to choose a career path.   Based in Denver, CO, Dr. Logan is an attending at Rose Medical Center, where her clinic uniquely offers The Fit Lab, a dedicated exercise testing space using motion capture and force mats to better follow her patient’s rehab progress. Dr. Logan is also the Head League Physician for Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), caring for our nation's most talented men's lacrosse professionals on the sidelines and off the field. In this episode, Craig and Sarah Forsythe, a clinical mental performance coach, discuss how to train the mind with sport psychology. #34 | Athletic Training in D1 College Sports

In this episode, Craig is joined by Tesa Johns & Andy Mutnan, who are athletic trainers for The Penn State Football Team, to discuss all things Athletic Training in D1 College Sports. Topics from this discussion include what exactly is an athletic trainer, what an ATC's role looks like and how it evolves season to season, what it's like to work in a D1 college football setting with extremely talented student athletes, prehab for athletes, and some of the constraints and limitations to true prehab in a competitive environment. Furthermore, they discuss where the profession is at, how it is has adapted over the years on and off the field, and where Tesa and Andy would like to see it go in the future. BioTesa Johns is a licensed, board-certified assistant athletic trainer at Pennsylvania State University, where she works exclusively with Penn State Football. She is a 2015 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in athletic training and minored in psychology. She obtained a master’s degree in sport and pedagogy at Louisiana State University in 2017. At LSU, Tesa was a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working with LSU Football as well as the track and field team. She also plays an intricate role in the collaboration between Penn State Center for Sport Concussion Research & Services and Penn State Sports Medicine.  Andy Mutnan is in his second year at Penn State as the head athletic trainer for football and his 17th overall. Andy earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training with a minor in psychology from the University of North Dakota in 2002 and his master's degree in sports administration from the University of Minnesota in 2005. Prior to coming to Penn State, he spent five seasons at Washington State University as the head football athletic trainer, five seasons at the University of Nevada as the associate director and head football athletic trainer, and also served as an assistant athletic trainer (2004-08) and graduate assistant (2003-04) at the University of Minnesota. He spent the 2002-03 season at the University of Colorado as an athletic training professional intern.    Enjoy! #31 | Olympic Weightlifting and Online Programming With Cal Strength's Dave Spitz

In this episode, Mike chats with world renown Olympic Weightlifting Coach Dave Spitz - founder and CEO of California Strength - a premier athletic performance facility located in San Ramon, California. They chat about how technology has allowed them to remotely train thousands of athletes from around the world and build a tribe amongst the weightlifting community. Dave has an in-house physical therapist at California Strength and they chat about how they have integrated rehab and prehab to keep their athletes performing at a high level at the time. Dave also shares some insights on weightlifting, programming for elite level athletes, and how he's raising his kids to have a solid all-around athletic base. This was a great one for anyone interested in weightlifting, performance physical therapy, and raising kids (haha!).      Dave is one of the few USA Weightlifting Senior International Coaches in the country as well as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. #30 | Sports Therapy, Strength & Conditioning In Pro Baseball with LA Angels Dr. Sean Johnson

In this episode, Craig and Sean Johnson from the Los Angeles Angels Baseball Team discuss all things PT and Pro Baseball. Sean has spent the last three seasons with the Angels as a team physical therapist and assistant strengthening and conditioning coach.
