Laura Siddall | Taking a leap of faith into a new adventure
“Don’t die wondering” – the quote and value that Laura Siddall, professional triathlete, stands by to help drive her when making big decisions. How could incorporating this same value in your life impact the way you make decisions, whether they be personal, or business-related?
Laura made a big leap from using sport as a hobby alongside her corporate job, to fully committing to sport, triathlon specifically, as her profession. Laura explains how she was excited to see where her limits may be within the sport when fully committing to it. Laura shares the obstacles, personal failures, and lessons that she encountered when making this leap and has ultimately learnt to not be fearful of what the result of a decision may be and to just try because you don’t know what the outcome may be until you try.

#121 Jasmine Harrison | First female to swim from Land’s End to John o’ Groats - hear how she swam 900 miles in 110 days and the challenges she faced and overcame
Imagine spending 110 days swimming 900 miles along the length of the UK. Would you quit? What challenges would you encounter? What would keep you going?
Jasmine Harrison, 23-year-old, and the first woman to swim the entire length of the UK from Land’s End to John O’ Groats, shares her inspirational experience of her incredible and challenging adventure. Jasmine discusses the low points, how she dealt with them, and what she learnt about dealing with challenges.
Only two people had previously swum from Land's End to John o'Groats: Ross Edgley, who in 2018 was the first and fastest Briton to complete the swim in 61 days, and Sean Conway, who accomplished the feat in 2013.
Not unfamiliar with epic events Jasmine is also the youngest woman to row solo across the Atlantic. On December 12, 2020, after 70 days at sea, she crossed the finish line of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
When reflecting on the main challenges she encountered, Jasmine highlights the importance of having a team that is all aligned to the same purpose and goal, and how communicating openly and honestly with your team members is vital in order to unite your team.

#120 Chico Chakravorty | How to enhance your organisation’s diversity, inclusion and belonging culture
Hear Chico Chakravorty, founder and managing consultant of Doing Diversity Differently, discuss how organisations can enhance their diversity, inclusion and belonging culture.
Chico explains how organisations can integrate genuine behavioural changes within diversity and inclusion by understanding that it will be a continual journey of learning, and by taking accountability for this learning by questioning how to bridge certain gaps in the knowledge. Chico says how we will often learn from making mistakes, and rather than panicking and brushing off mistakes made, it’s important to acknowledge them and learn how we can move away from these mistakes in the future.
Having a diverse team, with people from different ethnic origins, different genders, and different cognitive abilities can lead to greater success in organisations.

#115 Kevin Kehoe | From entrepreneur to cancer survivor - lessons in doing extraordinary things
Kevin Kehoe is an entrepreneur and cancer survivor; co-founder of Aspire Software, and author of “One Hit Wonder - real life adventures of an average guy”. As the book highlights, ordinary people can do extraordinary things.
During 30 years of consultancy work in landscape management, construction in snow and ice, Kevin saw a need for new software in these industries – current software lacked the ability to give the contractor everyday insight. He co-founded Aspire Software.
Kevin explains 3 tips he would give someone about to start up a business:
1) People – the team you are going into business with are the most important – it’s essentially like a marriage – choose wisely!
2) Capital – most people underestimate how much they need.
3) Hours – don’t underestimate how much time setting up a business will take, and the impact this will have on your family etc.
How would you cope with starting a business and then almost immediately going through a traumatic life event (in Kevin’s case, incurable cancer)? “Cancer is a brutal unforgiving disease – just when you think you’ve made progress, it kicks you back in the teeth.”
Has having cancer changed your perspective on life and business? “It’s turned me into a hugger – I tell people I love them!”
Kevin explains his perspective on resilience – “From a business angle, resilience is everything, especially in relation to start-ups. It is essential, especially early on. If you get the plumbing and wiring right at the beginning – the right people, the right service model etc., you don’t have to tear down the house further down the line.” Resilience can be about taking things a day at a time, which is something you really learn, living with cancer. It’s not all about grit, determination and gung-ho – that’s not resilience. Sometimes it’s just getting through the day, working through the tasks you’ve planned for that day. One manageable step at a time.
Note: Sadly, Kevin Kehoe recently passed from his 8.5 yr battle with Stage 4 cancer. This interview is being posted as a tribute to Kevin.

#114 Georgie Rudd | How listening can make you a better and more impactful leader
We are programmed to feel we add value by advising and having all the answers - particularly in a client-facing organisation. How much more value can we give by intentionally listening? Executive leadership coach Georgie Rudd is passionate about helping people find space to gain clarity by experiencing listening. Georgie describes listening as the single most important part of communication, as people have immense wells of resourcefulness and innovation within themselves. "The quality of your attention determines the quality of other people's thinking." (Nancy Kline) Georgie talks about the power of allowing someone to share, and of how easy it is to underestimate the impact your listening can have on someone else.
To increase the impact further, pairing high attention with really brilliant questions provokes deeper thinking and can be very powerful. Georgie explains the impact of listening on team dynamics, strategic development, and business innovation; and shares three things that leaders can do to make a positive difference to their interactions. Listening also plays a significant part in the trust equation of credibility, reliability and intimacy, over self-interest. Listening takes time, but is definitely a skill worth learning and deploying.

#113 Tom Cleary | Self-compassion will make you a better leader
Stop and reflect on the last time a close friend went through something difficult, or made a mistake at work - how did you respond? Then think of how you respond to yourself when you go through challenging situations or get things wrong - how do you speak to yourself? A go to phrase we say to ourselves is, "You idiot!"
Well-being and mental health consultant and trainer Tom Cleary specialises in self-compassion and leadership, and works with athletes, veterans and high performing leaders - many of them suffering from burnout. Tom explains that with increased self-compassion comes increased self-awareness, which also fosters compassion towards others. One of the elements of self-compassion is mindfulness - a key component in resilience, well-being and success in business. In this podcast Tom Cleary explains why self-compassion is so important, and how leaders who demonstrate self-compassion can positively impact their teams and business.
