BONUS MINI EPISODE: Dom Vs The Mad Butcher - The Argument
This is a very short bonus episode that I thought I'd share with you guys. Recently the podcast went through a rebrand from "Runners Only! With Dom Harvey" to "The Dom Harvey Podcast."Part of this rebrand included a short video that blew up on social media of The Mad Butcher and myself having a heated argument about the theme of the podcast, which ALOT of people thought was very real. This snippet is that argument in its entirely and what was said immediately afterwards. There was no script, no guideline's, and very little pre discussion. The Mad Butcher sat down and I asked him if we could have a fake argument about the name of the podcast and then we both just went for it. This episode is bought to you by the legends at the Generate Kiwisaver scheme who have been big supporters of the podcast so I’m ecstatic to have them on board as a partner.Generate is an award-winning KiwiSaver provider, with a track record of chart topping long-term performance. If you are curious to find out more, you should check them out: www.generatekiwisaver.co.nz/getadvice/Also on their website is a copy of their product disclosure statement. The Mad Butcher - Racism Controversy, Near Death Experience, Warriors & Kiwis Legacy
Sir Peter Leitch is better known as "The Mad Butcher"He is a man most New Zealanders recognize from his voice. He is New Zealand’s most high-profile butcher, a very successful businessman, a diehard supporter of the Warriors and Rugby league. And, he would argue this point, but I think he is a man that probably doesn’t get the recognition he deserves for his charitable acts. It’s hard to think of someone who have been more generous with their time and money than the Mad Butcher.I have always liked the Mad Butcher. But I like him even more after this and I hope you guys enjoy it too. This episode is bought to you by Generate Kiwisaver.Generate is an award-winning KiwiSaver provider, with a track record of chart topping long-term performance. If you are curious to find out more, you should check them out: www.generatekiwisaver.co.nz/getadvice/(Also on their website is a copy of their product disclosure statement. Suzie Bates - Cricket & Basketball Career, Partying with Kobe, Coaching Melie Kerr, and more!
Suzie Bates is the GOAT of New Zealand women’s cricket. And just an awesome all-round human. She first made the New Zealand team in 2006 when she was 19. Now she is 36 and still playing like the absolute boss that she isShe’s also a bloody talented basketballer and went to the Olympics in 2008 playing for the NZ side- we talk about that experience including how she ended up partying with the USA “Redeem team” including LeBron and Kobe.We chat about her alter-ego "Betsy" who comes out after a couple of chardonnays, what Mick Jagger WASN’T wearing when she met him in his dressing room and much much more.I was left with the impression that she has such a growth mindset that she doesn’t take a lot of time to pause and reflect on all the cool stuff she has achieved and experienced in her life. And there is so so much to reflect on!Thanks to the legends at Radix Nutrition for getting behind this episode.Mike and the team at Radix have been key players in helping this little podcast grow from nothing into something I’m really proud of.If I could ask one favor of you, it would be to check out their website:https://radixnutrition.co.nz/ Hosted on Acast. Sir John Kirwan: NZ's Mental Health Pioneer, Managing Depression, and more! (Re-Release)
This podcast with Sir John Kirwan was first released in September 2022.I am re-sharing it now to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week 2023 in New Zealand. If you are an early listener to the podcast who has already heard this one, just skip it.But if you have just recently discovered the podcast, you may really enjoy this one- I still get messages every other week from people telling me they listened and got a lot of valuable tips from Sir John. Either way, thanks for checking the podcast out. I genuinely appreciate you being here to read this. Sir John Kirwan is an All Black legend. But its what he has done since retiring from sport that has made him an all-round legend.15 years ago JK reluctantly spoke publicly about his depression and mental health struggles (we discuss his reluctance in this chat- I won't tell you who pushed him into doing it!)Mental health has never had more chat that what it currently gets. This guy was the trailblazer. NOBODY really talked about this stuff publicly before Sir John. There are so many tips, tricks and tools from JK in this conversation that we can all use to improve our mental health. We also reminisce a little bit about his time as a butcher, an All Black and a DB Bitter Warrior. If this episode triggers anything, PLEASE chat to someone you trust. Or text 1737 anytime (NZ). You’ll get to chat to a trained counsellor.Dom Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Dr. Ben O'Keefe - Abuse from Rugby Fans, 2023 Rugby World Cup, Was Richie McCaw A Cheat?
Dr. Ben O'Keefe is one of the world’s Best rugby referees. He is also a doctor who specializes in Ophthalmology (fancy word for eye stuff). He made headlines for the death threats and social media backlash he experienced after he reffed the super rugby final this year between the Crusaders and the Chiefs. At the time of releasing this episode he is busy representing New Zealand as an official referee at the RWC in France. His games include France Vs Uraguay, Japan Vs Argentina and South Africa Vs Ireland. In this conversation we explore Ben’s journey from general medicine to ophthalmology, his passion for rugby, and how he balances both these intense careers. I invited Ben on after he blew up on Instagram by sharing some of the gross comments he got after the super rugby final. Also, he is just an inspiring New Zealander who is kicking serious life goals and probably doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. Thanks to Radix Nutrition for sponsoring this episode. John Hart, Former All Black Coach - Mental Health Struggles, Remembering Jonah Lomu, and more!
This is the very first podcast that former All Black coach John Hart has ever agreed to do (thanks to our mutual mate Kerre Woodham for convincing him to do it)..John was the coach of the legendary Auckland NPC side who won titles in 82, 84 and 85. That 1985 side also won the Ranfurly shield and kept it for 61 games which remains a record in shield history. We talk at length about the disgraceful fallout after the 1999 RWC semifinal loss against France, where he was spat on at a horse race in Christchurch, something which spiraled John into a deep and long-lasting depression.John is a man who has devoted a lot of his life to NZ sport- in rugby he coached 142 games for a total of three teams and retired from the sport with a win record of 84.5%He keeps his head down these days by choice so I can’t thank him enough for coming over to chat- especially about some of the less sexy stuff.I really enjoyed spending time with John and I hope you do too. Thanks very much to Radix Nutrition for sponsoring this episode.Without there support, it would not be possible to keep bringing you these conversations- it’s a fair amount of work each week and their investment is crucial. I only tell you this so that you may be compelled to check out what they are all about and, if you like what you see, maybe become a customer. I almost guarantee that once you try their products, you will become a fan- they are that good.https://radixnutrition.co.nz/ Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

She thrived.Despite being told by doctors that she would never walk again, she has 2 prosthetic legs and is fitter and more active than most of us. You can follow her on inspirational Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/fitness.amputeenz/Penny doesn’t do a lot of this stuff, so I appreciate her sharing her story and going back to some pretty bleak times and I hope you guys like it too. Thanks to Radix Nutrition for sponsoring this episode.I start every day with a protein shake made with protein powder from Radix.
