Dame Stephanie Shirley (REPLAY): On Learning To Love Change

This is a replay of an episode with Dame “Steve” Stephanie Shirley. I recorded this one in 2019, it was a sunny summer’s day in London and we recorded it in a meeting room at Penguin’s offices. Dame Stephanie is tech pioneer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She also goes by the name "Steve" which she used to sign business letters to potential clients when they were not responding to her. If you haven't already, go and watch her Ted Talk "Do ambitious women have flat heads?" it is funny and moving and super interesting to hear what it was like being a woman in tech during the 60s. In this episode, we talk about her brilliant memoir Let It Go. In this episode we talk about workplace misogyny, making money, resilience, giving back, and why it's important to always keep learning. Hope you enjoy x Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Philippa Perry (REPLAY): How We Internalise Our Parents' Voice

This episode is a replay from 2019 with the wonderful Philippa Perry. Since this episode aired she has started a new role as agony aunt for the Observer, answering reader questions and her responses are of course wise and wonderful. Her most recent book, The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did), was a number one Sunday Times bestseller and continues to dominate the charts, a book all about what really matters and the vital dos and don'ts of parenting. Poorna Bell (REPLAY): Quit Your Job. Go Travelling.

This is a replay episode! Poorna Bell is award-winning journalist of 15 years and a digital expert having worked as UK Editor and Global Lifestyle Head for Huffington Post. Her debut non-fiction book Chase The Rainbow came out last year; a moving memoir about how Poorna's life was affected —but not defined—by the suicide of her husband Rob. Poorna's second book In Search Of Silence is out now, all about her deeply personal journey which asks us all to define what 'happiness' truly means to each of us. In this episode, we discuss the inspiration behind this second memoir, her wariness of self-help books, and what she's learned along the way. Since this recording she has also released the brilliant book Stronger: Changing Everything I Knew About Women's Strength which is part memoir, part manifesto. Stronger explores old-fashioned notions and long-held beliefs about getting strong. Hope you enjoy this conversation :)Check out Poorna's books here: https://uk.bookshop.org/contributors/poorna-bell Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Sophia Amoruso (REPLAY): The Original Girlboss Reflects On Work

This is a replay with Sophia Amoruso. It was recorded back in Jan 2020 when I was in LA, back when we could fly around the world and interview people in person. Sophia Amoruso is the author of the 2014 New York Times Bestseller #GIRLBOSS, a book that chronicled her early life as the founder of fashion empire Nasty Gal — it was also adapted into a scripted TV series that premiered on Netflix in 2017.  Reading Girlboss in 2014 was a real moment for me as its when I first made steps towards starting my own business. Since this episode aired, she has founded a new venture called Business Class, a brilliant toolkit for founders - I will link to it in the shownotes. In this episode we discuss all sort of things, the evolution of the #girlboss brand, taking risks as a brand builder, and how her idea of success has changed. If you liked this episode please do rate and review ♡ Thank you for listening! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
