Ctrl Alt Delete subverts the traditional career show. Instead, it's for people who are more interested in shaping their work rather than letting their work shape them. The main focus is work, wellbeing and creativity. Hosted by bestselling author Emma Gannon, she has a gentle line of questioning that starts with work, and ends up wherever the conversations lead. Named Best Business podcast by Vuelio, Webby award nominee and named 50 Best Podcasts by Sunday Times, Ctrl Alt Delete is a gateway into new ideas – with past guests varying far and wide including Elizabeth Gilbert, Reni Eddo-Lodge, Jacqueline Wilson, Lena Dunham, Julia Cameron, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Ava DuVernay, Gillian Anderson and Mrs Hinch. She is also the author of Good Burdens and The Joy Of Missing Out and has been called "the Marie Kondo of digital" by Harper’s Bazaar which sums up her work really well. #367 Abigail Bergstrom: How To Write A Novel In Secret
Abigail Bergstrom is a Welsh writer, editor and agent, who has worked in publishing for over a decade. She is an industry leader and an expert and has edited some of Britain's most prominent feminist voices, she was nominated for Literary Agent of the Year 2020 and has helped build some of today's biggest book brands. But today, we are here to talk about her debut novel What A Shame! A brilliantly fresh novel with blistering humour reminiscent of Emma Jane Unsworth and the raw vulnerability of I May Destroy You. It is a book about female shame, friendship, grief, about trying to heal yourself, about trying unorthodox remedies to go deeper into yourself and explores both the beauty and the pain of figuring hard things out. We talk about burnout, the downsides of pushing yourself to the limit, writing a novel in secret, how to deconstruct your working life and how to reshape it. I loved this conversation and it was a treat getting to chat to Abbie :)Abbie's book What A Shame: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781529367065Check out this survey from The Post Office, a current sponsor of Ctrl Alt Delete!https://survey.euro.confirmit.com/wix/5/p299364423555.aspx Hosted on Acast. Candice Brathwaite (REPLAY): Visualising Your Dreams
This is a replay episode with the brilliant Candice Brathwaite, it is one of my favourite episodes from 2020. She is the Sunday Times Bestselling author of I Am Not Your Baby Mother and Sista Sister. Her first book was called 'an urgent part-memoir, part-manifesto' about Black British motherhood. Her new book Sista Sister has been described by Cosmopolitan as "like the old sibling you wish you had growing up". She is a whip-smart, philosophical and inspirational writer, I absolutely love her work and was lucky enough to interview live recently at the Southbank Centre (thanks for having me, Candice and team!) This episode is differently worth a re-listen. Venetia La Manna (REPLAY): How To Slow Down
This is a replay episode with the brilliant Venetia La Manna, broadcaster, slow fashion campaigner. On her platforms she discusses issues relating to the fast fashion industry and climate crisis. I always learn a lot from her, especially on the topic of how to support garment workers and hold the fashion industry to account. In the first half we talk about her work in the slow fashion space and the second half is about how she ditches her phone at the weekend to enjoy a slower pace, so basically an episode on how to slow down. Enjoy! xoIf you're interested in more tips and tricks on setting digital boundaries, my new book (DIS)CONNECTED is out now: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781529373127Check out Venetia's podcast here: https://play.acast.com/s/talkingtastebudsFollow me on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/emmagannonuk/ Hosted on Acast. Rachel DeLoache Williams (REPLAY): The Story of Anna Delvey
This is a replay episode! My guest today is Rachel DeLoache Williams, Vanity Fair photography editor and now author of My Friend Anna: The True Story Of The Fake Heiress Of New York City (all about her relationship with NYC scammer Anna Delvey. One of TIME magazine's must-read books of 2019. This book is the true story of Anna Delvey through her friend Rachel's eyes, someone you might have read about in the news, the fake heiress whose deceit and elaborate con-artistry deceived the Soho New York scene before her lies were dramatically exposed. This is Rachel's story who is still dealing with the consequences of being so betrayed. The pair met through mutual friends, and became inseparable. But after Anna’s debit card was declined in a Morocco whilst on holiday in a five-star luxury resort, Rachel began to suspect that her increasingly mysterious friend was not all she seemed. This book has been called Catch Me If You Can meets Gossip Girl with Instagram filters. Between Anna Delvey, Fyre Festival’s Billy McFarland (Anna even tried to scam Billy) and Elizabeth Holmes, whose start-up app duped the high and mighty of Silicon Valley, 2019 seems to have be the year of the scammer.Hope you enjoy this interview with Rachel and please do leave a rating or review if you did!Check out the book here: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781787478305 Hosted on Acast. #366 Julia Cameron (NEW): Navigating Worries, Doubts & Fears
My guest today is the wonderful Julia Cameron - again! She is a third time guest on this podcast and that’s because I just love her wisdom so much. She is a huge inspiration of mine when it comes to creativity and wellbeing, and she has a new book out, called Seeking Wisdom: A Spiritual Path to Creative Connection, which is a comforting, brilliant guide to stepping back and finding faith in your creativity again, and yes, in some cases a higher power. In the new book, she recaps on her recovery from alcoholism and addiction, its a deeply personal account of pain, healing and growth, showing the reader how to harness prayer (in whatever form that takes for the individual) to overcome our lives challenges and obstacles, and forge ahead towards becoming the person we are meant to be. It’s inviting and welcoming: she embraces her reader to believe in something again, and you of course don’t have to use the word God if you don't want to, you can use whatever word or concept you like. I also really recommend her memoir Floor Sample which is one of my favourite ever memoirs. So, here is a brand new episode with Julia and I really hope you enjoy it!!Pre-order Floor Sample here: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781800811959Buy Seeking Wisdom here: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781788168250 Hosted on Acast. #365 An Interview With Me(!): My New Book Disconnected: LIVE at BookBar
I’m excited to share this episode with you, this time it’s an interview with me! All about my new book Disconnected, which is out TODAY (January 13th 2022). I did an in person event at BookBar in London, a gorgeous independent bookstore that I recommend you visiting if you are ever in the area, and I was interviewed by the founder of the bookstore Chrissy Ryan. It felt amazing to be in person with people again after launching projects on Zoom for so long. We discussed many themes in the book; how to unplug without going cold turkey, why I don’t believe in guilt-trips or intense digital detoxes and why I think there’s a better way to create a healthy distance with your phone. We discuss our Internet selves, how to stay true to who we are online, what an e-personality is, how to slowly step away from society’s productivity obsession, how to realise when your devices are making you anxious and prompts on how to create space for yourself again. So I really hope you enjoy this conversation, and if you’d like to buy the book, in hardback, audio or e-book I have left the links below in the show-notes. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening!Order yours here!Hardback: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781529373127Audio: https://adbl.co/336s13HE-book: https://amzn.to/336lYfv Hosted on Acast.
