Conversations with Leeland Part I

Right before the Pandemic hit back in March, host, Brenton Miles, sat down with Leeland Mooring and had an incredible conversation about his journey in worship and music. We delayed these episodes in light of current events, but are thrilled to be releasing them now in 2 parts over the next 2 weeks. Leeland came to the forefront of the worship music world in 2004 and debuted their first project, the revolutionary Sound of Melodies, in 2006. Fast forward to now with four GRAMMY® nominations and eight GMA Dove Award® nominations under their belts, Leeland has become one of the most important voices in a new generation of worship music. Their lives, ministry, and music are a true extension of their passion to simply worship God personally and in community. In episode 121, Leeland shares about his early childhood, his experience with the ministry as a kid, church planting, and how he developed his writing. "I don't want to write songs filled with my thoughts about God," Mooring shares about his music motivations. "I want to write songs filled with what God thinks about everything. It isn't my words or ideas about my circumstances that change me, but it's when I use my voice to speak the words of life that come from Jesus' mouth that change me." Bringing Unity and Kingdom Mindset Amidst Racial Injustice

There are no words that can capture the heartache we all feel after hearing of the unjustifiable killing of George Floyd. Racism is evil. It should not exist. It is not from God. It shouldn't take video after video for our country to take responsibility for the amount of evil and prejudice that still exists in America today. On Monday, May 25 in Minneapolis, 46-year-old George Floyd was killed by a white police officer who pinned him to the ground for over 8 minutes until he could no longer breathe. The encounter was caught on a viral video that has since sparked national outrage over the amount of racial injustice that still exists in this nation. Our guest this week, Ryan Williams, is an incredibly gifted songwriter, worship pastor, and lead singer of the worship group River Valley Worship, a faith-filled collection of artists based out of River Valley Church, with locations all around the greater Minneapolis region The timing of this podcast was nothing short of the work of the Holy Spirit, with Ryan's home church just minutes from where George Floyd was killed and where the ever-growing riots are currently taking place. In light of that, we felt led to completely scrap our original plan and talk about bringing unity and Kingdom mindset amidst racial injustice. Ryan also shares how when writing their newest record, "Altars", every edit and change they decided to make was perfectly orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. For such a time as this. Don't miss this powerful episode and be sure to listen to "Altars" by River Valley Worship now available! If you like what you hear, please leave us a review! Jesus Culture: Bringing Hope in the Unknown

"With all the world is facing right now, I think we all need to remember that 'everything will change, so I will not fear. Fear is such a familiar feeling for humans so we need to constantly remind our spirits that God is the source of peace and courage, fear is not what God has to offer, it's what the world offers. Something we always need is hope and especially now more than ever. . . We are clinging to so much information and news and statistics, but those things always fail us. When we cling to hope, we are never disappointed." -Derek Johnson In episode 116 we are honored to be joined by Kim Walker-Smith, Derek Johnson, and Jake Ithurburn from Jesus Culture! Jesus Culture is a church community of revivalists whose heart is to see a generation impacted through encounters with the Presence of God. Jesus Culture is focused on equipping young and old to transform society by living in community, growing in the Word of God, discipleship, and living lives surrendered to Jesus in passionate worship. Today, the passionate desire to serve the body of Christ and to see the Church rise up and wholeheartedly pursue Jesus, is stronger than ever. On April 24th, Jesus Culture released a brand-new live album, Church Volume One (Live), available here! "Our prayer is that these songs would serve as a weapon for the Church in this time. Our praise and our worship is powerful and it is a weapon to dispel lies and fear. We pray that these songs become the backdrop for many encounters with Jesus and put words to the prayers and cries of hearts." - Kim Walker-Smith Listen in as we talk with Jesus Culture about how they have adapted their church services, how to remain generous, slowing down, and most of all, how to bring hope in the unknown. 3 Ways to Effectively Lead Your Church during Social Distancing

COVID19 has completely transformed the way we live day to day life. Church services, worship nights, rehearsals, small groups, all halted and with little to no certainty of when that will change. For this episode, we wanted to reach out to pastors who have navigated their way through this pandemic and found ways to continue serving their church. In episode 114 we are honored to have Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt who is the lead pastor, along with his wife Jen, of City First Church in Rockford, IL. On April 2, they gave away 43,000 lbs. of food and supplies to their local community in need with a partnership with Convoy of Hope. And on April 7, they opened up their facility to other local pastors who needed a way to record their Easter sermons for online streaming When crisis comes, it unifies. Jesus himself said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35 Right now, the world's response to Coronavirus is to isolate, be fearful, and to hoard. We as the Kingdom of God are called to respond the exact opposite. To unite together, have faith, and to continue to be generous. Listen in as we break down these 3 ways to effectively lead your church and community during quarantine with Pastor Jeremy DeWeerdt! --- If you like what you hear, please leave us a review! Choosing Worship with Chris Llewellyn from Rend Collective

In episode 112 we are honored to be joined by Chris Llewellyn from Rend Collective of Northern Ireland to talk about the importance of choosing to worship despite our circumstance. We recorded this episode a few days before the Coronavirus hit the United States hard, and since then, our entire world has changed. Despite what we didn't know, this episode comes at exactly the right time. With millions of people unemployed and hundreds of thousands infected and dying, now more than ever, we need to worship. "Life is hard. Worship will not always or even usually be our default setting...but like a pilot encountering dangerous landing conditions, when these storms gather over us we have to switch off autopilot, wrestle back the controls and manually, intentionally choose worship. Because God is still worthy in the valley. He is good when life is not. And that's the anchor of our souls." -Chris Llewellyn from Rend Collective Don't miss this powerful episode as we unpack what it takes to worship in the valley, and talk about the heart behind their new album, "Choose to Worship" out now! "This album is an invitation into the spiritual discipline that we have been living as a community of building altars of praise in the darkness, trusting that whether or not the dawn comes, worship is still our sacred duty - and privilege. We hope this album gives you a vocabulary so that you can sing from the shackles, lift an anthem of defiance against your circumstances, and raise a shout of joy that demoralizes the enemy in his attempts to silence you. We hope that nothing will ever steal your song. We hope that you will join us in choosing worship." -Rend Collective If you like what you hear, please leave us a review!
