I Could Never Do That
"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right."
How many times have you heard of a "dream job," an extraordinary athletic feat, or even a benevolent vocation that someone has and thought to yourself, "I Could NEVER Do That!" These people don't have superpowers, per se. These normal folks simply have a huge desire to do what it is they're doing and they ultimately have an unwavering faith that they can achieve their goals, no matter how big.
Remember, courage isn't the absence of fear. Courage is "going in" in spite of your fears. These are the stories of people who have gone in and fought hard to achieve the unthinkable in spite of the fact that, yes, sometimes they are scared and do have some insecurities. Are you ready to go in?
It's my hope that after hearing some of these interviews with thought leaders, artists, athletes, musicians and entrepreneurs that maybe you too will go from, "I Could Never Do That" to, "I Could Do That."

35 Velo View Bike Tours Founder, Shannon Burke
You ever have one of those "Office Space" moments where you’re sitting in your cube or your open-air space office and you just want to say, “ this" and go do the thing you REALLY want to do? My guest today did just that. (minus the whole hammering the out of your computer thing). In 2012, Shannon Burke left his full-time job as a municipal planner and pursued his dream. Together, with his love of cycling and his knack for logistics, he created Velo View Bike Tours. The name Velo View is a tribute to the unique way the world is seen from the saddle of your bike. Promoting and sharing that perspective is what Velo View Bike Tours is all about. Today, they host rides and tours throughout the country including The TN Smokey Mountains, the Carolinas, a Virginia Wine Tour, and even a Kentucky Horse Country and Bourbon Tour. Plus, they are also available for private groups in and around the Chattanooga area where they are currently based. So many of us have said, “I could never” pursue my hobby as a career…It’s not a real business, people won’t take me seriously, who am I to think I can do this?! Well, you can. It’s a of a lot of work, but the result and the views (or in this case, the velo views) are well worth it. 33 Stephanie Kaplan - Road Product Manager for Specialized Bikes
How many of you love riding your bike? It doesn't matter if you're shredding down a mountain or commuting to your job, there's just something special about being on two wheels because it harkens back to childhood and represents freedom and exploration with wide eyes and helmet hair. Stephanie Kaplan is the Road Product Manager for Specialized Bikes. Yes, many of the bikes you see on the shelves at your local shop were conceived and designed by Stephanie and her co-workers of creative designers and engineers. This is the ultimate "dream job" journey about how she went from casual rider, to racer, to Ambassador and finally to Product Manager for one of the biggest bike companies in the world in a short span of time. It's a job that has taken her around the globe and it even made she and her husband a bi-coastal partnership for the first two years. How did she land her dream gig? How do bike companies even know what to design? How do they research and predict industry trends 2, 3 and 4 years into the future? We talk bikes, but the conversation would be complete without a little dive into her personal life including some unfair perceptions of her "leaving her husband" and moving across the country to chase her dreams in a male-dominated industry. We also touch on the life-changing turn of becoming a Mom because, yes, apparently absence does make the heart grow fonder. You can have it all, but you have to chase it and make some concessions, but you should NEVER underestimate the power of your passions because they can turn into your dream job! 32 Pete Ripmaster - Iditarod Champion on Foot
Buckle your seatbelts, because you’re in for a treat today. My guest is Pete Ripmaster - adventurer, speaker, ultra-runner and winner of the 1000 mile Iditarod Trail Invitational - ON FOOT. Yes, there is such a thing. You’ve, no doubt, heard of the Iditarod race across Alaska with dogs and sleds, but did you know they have a race where they run the course on bike and on foot? I didn’t either!! Holy freakin’ cow. Yes, competitors traverse 1000 miles across Alaska on foot with a sled wrapped around their waist. They carry all their own gear and supplies on this sled and, as the website says, “Every year on the Iditarod Trail is different and conditions change in the blink of an eye during the journey. ITI 1000 competitors may face temperatures from -50F to 35F, gale force winds, rain, blizzards, waist-deep snow, mud, glare ice and bright sunny skies - all in the same day. I’ll let Pete tell you all about his journeys and almost obsession with this event that finally led to his victory earlier this year. We talk about childhood dreams, getting lost along the way, and finally finding redemption and pride. But first, we talk about country music and our shared passion for Western Swing music from Asleep at the Wheel and his good pal, Ray Benson. Enjoy this fascinating talk with Pete Ripmaster. 30 Karl Gruber - 52 Marathons in 52 Weeks
How many of you have ever met a hero of yours, or someone who has really influenced your life? How many of you are actually friends with that person? Karl Gruber has been a presence in my life for the last 25 years. In 1996-1997, he took off from his job in radio and successfully ran 52 Marathons in 52 Weeks to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. At the time, he was the 9th person in the world to accomplish this feat and, while many records and streaks have been broken since then, what makes his accomplishment so noteworthy is that he did this BEFORE THE INTERNET! There was no Google, no race sites, no on-line donation sources, or listings of marathons. He literally picked up the phone for hours at a time and called Race Directors asking for entries, hotels and any help they could give him during his journey. He faxed (yes, faxed) press releases to media outlets soliciting publicity and interviews. It was truly a labor of love that paid off in donations to the charity. He was (and is) an inspiration to me and is literally the reason I started running in my early 20s. Karl still sheds light and positivity in this world as a Law of Attraction Life Coach, Race Announcer, and Running Coach. You'll love our stories and memories in this special episode of "I Could Never Do That." 29 Remembering Andrew Tilin
On February 17th, 2018, author, cyclist, father and partner, Andrew Tilin, was struck and killed by a motor vehicle as he was pulled over out of traffic to change a flat tire on his bike. 27 Triathlon Taren - Building Your Brand
Triathlon Taren is a brother from another Mother! We have a lot in common, as it turns out. We both were once out-of-shape, unmotivated young adults, headed down a path of self-destruction. We also both found the sport of triathlon (it found us, actually) and now make this sport our passion, our hobby, and our careers by helping others find that same joy. Triathlon Taren is a social media guru, with daily YouTube videos and two different podcasts. He also has an extensive series of videos, resources, and training plans geared at a beginner triathlete. In this interview, he talks about giving up his steady career as an Investment Advisor for the unknown renegade world of social media and on-line marketing. What's his formula for success? How has he grown his audience to many thousands in just a couple of years? How does he land interviews with some of the sports biggest names? He starts off by asking himself the question, "What makes me the happiest" and lives each day in the pursuit of answering that question. For many years, Triathlon Taren was stuck in the world of, "I Could Nevers," but today he is rocking the, "Yes I Can" movement. It's inspiring, funning, motivating and insightful! 26 Nikki Castagneto and Green Ninja Cooks - Motivating Kids to Play with their Food
“I’ve always had a dream of doing a kid’s cookbook,” says Green Ninja Cooks Author and Master of Nom, Nikki Castagneto. “Who doesn’t want to be a ninja or possess superhuman powers?” Enter our hero, the Green Ninja. Of course, instead of swords, this ninja has kitchen tools and the superpowers are used for exploring the benefits, uses, and tastes of superfoods! Green Ninja Cooks is equal parts imagination and an immersive hands-on experience with food play. The ‘Play with Food’ cookbook zine series, debuting this summer and written by Castagneto and illustrated by Jess Engle, turns kids into Green Ninja cooks by teaching them how to harness the power of plant-based food. “Our Ninja wakes up, does his stretches, drinks his nutritious ninja smoothie, and sets off on a journey to explore food,” explains Castagneto. Throughout the books, kids not only learn fun facts and clever ways to interact with foods, but also accumulate three to four simple recipes as well. In addition to the zine series, Castagneto and Engle bring the Green Ninja to life through their immersive, holistic, hands-on appearances around Austin. The goal is to teach kids how to assemble fruits and vegetables in a safe, delicious, and informative way, while giving them interactive missions that range from exploring the mysterious lands where food comes from, to building healthy daily habits that’ll last a lifetime. “Through local events, the cookbook zine and other online activities, we want to show that nutritious foods are fun. Hopefully, kids will emerge from our mission as part of a community of Green Ninja Cooks, actively involved in their journey to a healthy life.” Learn More About Green Ninja Cooks: Website Instagram Casa de Luz Little Yoga House Edible Austin Theme Music: ”Aitech" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
