#101 Lin Marty on How to Use Big Ad Agency Thinking in Your Small Business

I’m excited to share this week’s episode because it is a conversation with one of my favorite humans: Lin Marty. It’s an honor to call her a close friend - she is the kindest person you’ll meet, but make no mistake, this woman is a beast when it comes to business.  You might remember her from Ep. 42, but Lin is a true multihyphenate. Lin and I have been collaborating on my personal brand photography for the last two years and we have grown together with me and my brand. She is a personal brand photographer for ambitious women, and one of the reasons I have loved working with her so much is that she not only has creative vision, but she brings such strong business insights based on her 16 years of corporate advertising experience. Lin has helped manage campaigns for major brands such as Hyundai, Kia, Johnson & Johnson, Wells Fargo, Sony Theatrical,  and that’s just to name a few. She is also the co-founder of Agency Lite, a marketing and advertising intelligence firm, and on top of that, she also freelances for past agency employers because she’s THAT good.  If you want to hear more about Lin and personal brand photography side, you can check out Episode 42 (in the shownotes). #100 Episode 100: The Evolution of the Beyond Influential Podcast With Chris Mann

This week’s episode of Beyond Influential is… officially Episode 100! Whether you have been with me since the very beginning or this is your first episode, I want to take this opportunity to be vulnerable and speak directly to you. The first thing I want to say is Thank You. Time is our most valuable asset and it is an honor to have anyone’s time and attention. I am flattered every single time anyone tells me they listen to the podcast. Your messages, your emails, your reviews about any value I’ve provided you - I save all of them because at the end of the day this podcast isn’t about me. It’s about you. My goal is to make sure every episode is about bringing YOU value.  When I started this podcast two years ago, I had a vision for it, and while I knew it wouldn’t be perfect, I was committed to showing up consistently, adding as much value as I could, finding other people who could add value, and improving each and every episode.  And now I’m excited to tell you my vision for this community going forward. I’ll be continuing to put out the podcast (Cheers to the next 100!), but I wanted to create something else for you.  This community is my number one priority and I want to have a place for those of you who are truly committed to growth and creating what you want to create.  It really is possible to do, be, and have what you want - and it’s easier if you’re learning from the right people and with guidance and support.   A message I’ve been hammering home for a while now is how no one does it alone. I’m not alone, you’re not alone, and you don’t need to do it alone or figure it out alone, which is why I’m launching a Beyond Influential Insiders membership!  It will be starting out as a beta test and it will only be open for registration for a limited time, and will be capped to a small group of founding members before I open it up to the public in early 2020. My vision for the membership is to have one central place where you can go to get trusted advice and insights on building your brand, business, and influence. This will be a place where we can dive deeper into many of the topics I cover on the podcast. When I interview guests for Beyond Influential, I try to go as deep as I can, but there is a limit to how much we can cover in an episode. This membership will be the place where we can go beyond that. We're talking trainings (by me and guest experts), Live Q&As, and more. As for why I'm launching Beyond Influential Insiders as a beta test before the full launch? I didn’t want to wait and take months to build this out and agonize over trying to make it perfect, when I can be talking to you, answering your questions, and bringing you what you need to know right now. I’m building it from the ground up in a real-time. This membership has been on my radar since early this year, but to me it wouldn’t be right to create it without your input. This membership is not about me, it’s about you, so I want to include you in that building process. I want this to be a collaborative effort to deliver on exactly what you want and need. I talk about knowing your audience. The best way for me to deliver is through this membership. Shannon had been working in dentistry for the last 10+ years and had zero knowledge of the online space, but at the end of last year, we were catching up for her birthday, and we both had an a-ha moment. It’s Scorpio season!  What does that mean? For me, it means my birthday (October 26th!).  What does it mean for you? #95 Hate on Haters! How to Handle Your Haters & Triggers to Grow Your Brand Online

It doesn’t matter what you do for a living, where you grew up, who you know, how good of a person you are, there’s an excellent chance there’s someone out there who just does not like you.  And if you put yourself out there online, it’s pretty much guaranteed you will encounter someone who is “not a fan” (and willing to leave that fact in a comment or DM or public forum), and has no shame letting you know exactly how they feel from the comfort of a place behind a screen. #93 How to Say No to Requests For Free Work While Growing Your Business

Raise your hand if someone’s asked if they could “pick your brain” or “hop on a quick 5 minute call to chat” or you’ve just been straight up asked to do work for free (or a discount) from friends, family, strangers...and then think about how it made you feel and what it did to your energy level.  And then comes the most awkward part for most people… how do you say NO - but nicely.
