The modular thesis is growing week by week. We are seeing the rise of new L2s and appchains happening at a rapidly accelerating pace now. Frax started its journey as a decentralized stablecoin and has expanded significantly to include a broader range of DeFi tools and assets, making their modular L2 more appealing from our POV. The backbone of Frax's operations is its modular L2, Fraxtal, which brings together protocols, liquidity, and monetary policies within one chain. Fraxtal enhances efficiency and transparency, setting a foundation for Frax to function akin to a decentralized central bank. Within this framework, Fraxtal uses an incentivization system known as Fraxtal points, which rewards popular contracts based on their usage and gas consumption. This creates a reputation-based system that promotes sustainable development within the Frax ecosystem. Additionally, we discussed how Sam plans to encourage the development of L3s atop of Fraxtal. This means dApps can launch their own chains while benefiting from the underlying Frax protocol and liquidity. LM 💤 🥱 Did you know that Celestia was originally called LazyLedger? The idea behind this laziness stems from Celestia's minimalistic properties. By solely focusing on data availability with minimal smart contracts & execution, Celestia is able to provide cheap and secure data verification while outsourcing execution to other chains. In today's episode, we set out to understand the origin story of not only Celestia, but also the now iconic Celestine Sloth Society NFT collection. The success and significance of the Celestine Sloths Society has came at a perfect time for the modular community. We were joined by Zaki Manian, and Steven (sk) from the Celestine Sloths team and Nick White from Celestia to discuss the impact and origin story of the Sloths. The Celestine Sloths Society was introduced with a fair launch exclusively for Celestia stakers, requiring one TIA token to mint each NFT, with a limit of one per wallet. They quickly soared in value and even surpassed Bad Kids in floor price, the biggest collection in Cosmos. We discussed this rise of popularlity as well as the choice of the sloth as a thematic symbol for the modular community which creatively reflects the concept of the 'lazy ledger'—a playful nod to Celestia. We went on to unveil potential future developments, like modular sloth bodies and the expansion of the sloth IP. Many of the community members are excited for the potential modular project token distributions to Sloths (like Lava, Mitosis, Initia, Movement and others), we also touched on whether there could be a Sloth token in the future. In today's discussion, we're taking a closer look at Nil's strategic approach to blockchain scalability, focusing on the integration of horizontal scaling for Ethereum. The general idea and thesis we share is that we will see 1000s of appchains and the frameworks which are building for that future are in a good spot. In addition, we also believe there will be a ton of zkVMs (as introduced to us by Cem during this video) which will power rollups going forward. This is also part of our "we don't need any more traditional EVM, general purpose L2s" thesis. In today's video, were taking a closer look at Sovereign Labs. Sovereign is a project we've heard quite a bit about in the modular stack, which is builiding an SDK to launch zkRollups. Our discussion with the founder Cem Ozer, unpacks more of our thesis above. We started talking about Cem's reasoning behind the name "Sovereign Labs" and touched on the noisy neighbor problem which sovereign rollups solve. We went on to discuss how the Sovereign SDK utilizes Rust-based machines, is partnered with leading zkVM providers like Risc Zero & Succinct, interoperability baked in for every rollup within Sovereign, and how all of this leads to providing a great user experience. While we are particularly excited about Sovereign SDK, we managed to push back on some of the design choices such as not having their own underlying chain for distribution, and why a builder would choose the Sovereign SDK over a different stack like Cosmos SDK, OP stack, ZK stack and others. We also found a quick moment at the end to ask Cem about their plans to decentralize Sovereign Labs, and what that future may look like. Rollups as we know them today are more centralized than we'd like. Basically, rollups operate using a secure multi-sig and centralized sequencer for transaction batching and ordering. This isn't good for a multitude of reasons, notably censorship resistance. We are trying to build resilient, long-lasting systems in crypto and to do this effectively these systems need to be sufficiently decentralized...or else we are at risk of nation-state intervention. Today, we focus on the critical topic of fraud proofs within rollups. Verifiability is integral to enhancing the scalability and security of Ethereum-based solutions without sacrificing the decentralized foundation which Vitalik has created for us. Security varies significantly across different rollups currently. Some are based on a permissioned set of validators, while others are advancing with permissionless algorithms that resist both delay and civil attacks. We are here to analyze these variations, particularly looking at how recent innovations, like the Kineti algorithm, utilize computation hashes and structured tournament brackets to meet these challenges head-on. The goal of our discussion is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how fraud proofs work, why they matter, and what role they play in building a more censorship resistant Ethereum. Today marks a very special day for many DeFi founders, builders, and power users. Today is the launch of the transferable $SAFE token, for the safe multisig users on Ethereum mainnet. The tokens had to be claimed many months, if not years, ago. Safe has been pioneering the idea of smart accounts and has made many advancements in account abstraction technology. Our discussion with co-founder, Richard Meissner, aims to provide clarity on how these developments could influence the Ethereum ecosystem going forward. Account abstraction is a crucial innovation that introduces greater flexibility in how accounts are defined and managed on the Ethereum blockchain. The evolution of the modular thesis doesn't go without saying Osmosis and the Cosmos ecosystem. Being the hub of liquidity for the modular ecosystem assets (TIA, DYM, OSMO), Osmosis plays an important role for the space. In today's interview with co-founder Sunny Aggarwal, we discuss the recent rise of Celestine Sloths and how features like the Skip API allows for seamless cross-chain transactions, enabling users to mint NFTs on Stargaze by swapping currencies through Osmosis in a single transaction. This is a mega leap forward in interchain fluidity and for all of those who minted Sloths, you understand. We then went onto discuss the Mad Scientists collection which has recently gained traction, (Sunny's PFP) and how the tech behind this collection works.We discussed Backbone Labs and the plan to distribute a significant portion of protocol revenues to holders, and whether or not this "real yield" is bullish. Shortly after, we discussed the proposal from Osmosis about alloyed assets. Osmosis has introduced the concept of alloyed assets, which aggregrate various tokens into a unified asset pool to manage liquidity more effectively. This approach not only mitigates risks associated with individual bridge failures but also streamlines asset management across chains, thus simplifying the user experience significantly. But, is it really the best solution? We asked Sunny about the risks associated, some edge cases, and really dug into some areas where we feel they may have fell short...
