Brooks was found as a baby in a drain tile, grew up in foster home and a broken home. He joined the army in 2011 right before 9/11. He got the call to go to Iraq and loved it – he could be with his brothers and sisters and protect. He also got married to the love of his life and eventually had a son. After tragedy in the war and losing close friends, trauma started to set in. He found himself very angry, isolating from others and eventually suicidal. He was diagnosed with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and many other physical issues. In the midst of his darkest place, he was approached by a stranger who said she heard from the Holy Spirit about his PTSD and asked to pray for him. She led him to an event with Dr. Mike Hutchings who leads him to Christ and prays for Jesus to heal him. What transpired after this was a complete transformation and Brooks to begin walking in the destiny that God called him to. Gaslighting has been a very popular word and the English language. So much so that Merriam-Webster announced that it was the word of the year for 2022. It is a psychological manipulation of a person over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts a perception of reality that leads to decrease confidence and self-esteem. It is very easy to identity when does this to us. But can we do it to ourselves? Yes we can. Self-awareness is key to identifying the roots of self-gaslighting. If we are denying our own experiences, believing lies about ourselves, lacking healthy boundaries and always blaming ourselves, we could be self-gaslighting.
