Gaslighting has been a very popular word and the English language. So much so that Merriam-Webster announced that it was the word of the year for 2022. It is a psychological manipulation of a person over an extended period of time that causes the victim to question the validity of their own thoughts a perception of reality that leads to decrease confidence and self-esteem. It is very easy to identity when does this to us. But can we do it to ourselves? Yes we can. Self-awareness is key to identifying the roots of self-gaslighting. If we are denying our own experiences, believing lies about ourselves, lacking healthy boundaries and always blaming ourselves, we could be self-gaslighting.
