63. The Truth About Church Hurt and Church Wounds with Pamela Mertz

What if you’ve played right into the enemy’s hands just so you will sit on the sidelines? Pamela experienced sexual abuse as a young girl and heard these words from her abuser: “God brought you into my life for me to teach you to be a wife.” This is a lie from the enemy. She also has experienced people in the church telling her hurtful comments about why her son died.  There was a lot of misinformation about who God truly is. There are many wounded and hurt people in the church AND Jesus loves the church. God calls all things to work together for good but God doesn’t call ALL things to happen. We have free will. And we have an evil world and an evil ruler in this world. When we experience church hurt, we often end up blaming God. We need to watch blaming God for things that He didn’t do. This blocks intimacy with our creator. We can’t have intimacy with God when we are blaming Him. Fear is ineffective. Those areas where you have received wounding, that is where your strength is and what is needed in the church. Many of us have taken out by woundedness in the church. Are you going to tolerate that? Or are you going to step back up and take your rightful place that God has called you to? 62. Processing Emotions with Jesus for Kingdom Revelation

Do you feel like your emotions are hijacking your life and you feel out of control? Do you have times where you make choices and you don’t know why you even made them in the first place? I see so often that we ignore emotions in the church. We ignore them either because we don’t understand, because of pride or some theological belief that it has to do with psychology and we shouldn’t go there. It’s okay to “not be okay” but we can’t stay stuck there forever. If we don’t understand God’s true intent for our emotions, we will limit what He can do and not access all of the Kingdom. As Christians, we need to understand the power of our soul – mind, will and emotions. The revelation, prayer and tools given in this episode will set you free from things you didn’t even know you needed to be set free from. Not all of us have experienced extreme trauma or abuse, but we all have unprocessed emotions that came from somewhere. Learn how to walk in humility allowing Jesus to be your wisdom for mental health freedom. 61. Freedom from of the Spirit of Fear with Marcie Phelps

Even as a Christian, we can still be miserable. Marcie knew there had to be more to the Christian life than what she was experiencing. She knew she was missing something and found herself sitting in church complaining to God—crying out for Him to show her something. It did not take long before God put people in her path that led to her life being completely turned around. After living with a spirit of fear, and concerns about finances and health, Marcie experienced deliverance, was baptized in the Holy Spirit, and started praying in tongues. She learned how to truly stand on the Word of God in every area of her life. Her daughter was healed of asthma in one afternoon because of the Word and the Name of Jesus! This powerful episode dives into how we can advocate for our life with what God says. Our words have so much power and we often don’t realize this. Just because we are a Christian, it doesn’t mean we are free or that we know how to stay free. We have to renew our minds so we can think like Jesus. The biggest problem most Christians have is what we say about ourselves. In this episode you will learn how to conquer fear, how to get free, and most importantly, how to stay free! “Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” ~Psalm 86:11 Marcie’s website: https://www.marciephelps.com/ Purchase Marcie’s book: https://www.amazon.com/Generous-Kids-Financially-Responsible-Storehouses-ebook/dp/B087TFVPFH/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1DFQ9X82MU23E&keywords=marcie+phelps&qid=1655947398&sprefix=marcie+phelps%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-1 Heidi’s website: www.heidimortensonlmft.com If you are in crisis, help is available by call or text 1-800-273-8255 24/7. 60. God is a Therapist with Tim Ross

The questions that God asks Adam and Eve are therapist questions: Where are you? Who told you? What have you done? Pastor Tim Ross, from Embassy City Church in Irving, TX shares his powerful testimony about sexual abuse and pornography. He was able to get out of the lie that vulnerability is dangerous and is now walking out vulnerability as a successful pastor. He had loving parents who allowed the Holy Spirit to minister to Tim and not control him. The more Tim read the Bible the more he realized that God is a therapist. The power of what we confess and speak is huge and the enemy wants to silence us. Genesis 1 and 2 God teaches his loving boundaries for us, and Genesis 3 is a full-on counseling session. If we can be self-aware enough to see the lies that we are believing, we can do something with this! People go to a dentist 2x/year and a physical 1x/year. Society has made it acceptable to treat every part of your body except for your mind. We have so disrespected the brain as an organ and the emotional well-being of our lives. We need leaders to live as authentic and vulnerable as the Bible reads. That means getting mental health counseling. The Bible spared no details in sharing the brokenness and frailty of humanity – this is us as the body of Christ! How do we know if something is a demon or just a negative thought? We can have constant noise, feedback, opinions, analyzing, fear in our head that can keep us captive. Often we don’t even realize it is happening and it seems that it is normal. We can get to these places where the lies are accepted and we don’t even know they are lies. Katlyn shares how her thoughts were contradicting themselves. She was constantly analyzing and focusing on the chaos and confusion in her head. God is bigger than the chaos and confusion. Confusion, being overwhelmed – how do we know if it’s from us, from God, or somewhere else To be able to know if we have a lie, we need to spend extended time with God. This allows us to know the truth. God cares about the little things and the big things. We often focus on what is NOT God. What if we are missing where God IS? Lies from the spirit of criticism: Why did you do it that way? Someone is going to hate you if you do it that way? Don’t you know you’re too loud?! Why are you so afraid? I bet they’re thinking this about you Truth from the spirit of joy/love: God loves us unconditionally His loves goes from everlasting to everlasting God’s love isn’t dependent on what we’ve done but on who He’s created us to be God created us to BE love. God created us to love us Joy and freedom We don’t have to carry the weight of the world We can be free We can recognize when there is a voice that is NOT God and we take say “I don’t need you anymore”. We don’t have to be critical of ourself. We don’t need to live constantly on edge with the lies. Give the lies to Jesus and ask Him to burn them up. He will give you His goodness in replace. The enemy takes things that we know and He twists them to make it look like “us” or even God. QUOTES & SCRIPTURE TO REMEMBER To have authority to cast out the demons. ~Mark 3:15 And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion”; for many demons had entered him. ~ Luke 8:30 Heal the sick, raise th

57. How to be Assertive instead of Passive-Aggressive with Communication

Do you have people in your life who are passive-aggressive with you? It’s confusing and difficult when people are like this with us. They are kind and loving then manipulative the next moment. We don’t want to but we do it too. Jesus was assertive and honoring to others. We can be too. But how? Come listen to this powerful episode about how to be assertive with people in your life. Being assertive is a powerful tool but in reality it’s who you are. Listen to find out how to make this a reality. You can speak openly to others, make good eye contact, speak to the point, communicate your needs and honor others. “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” ~Galatians 1:10-12 Purchase the book The Brave Encourager: https://www.amazon.com/Brave-Encourager-Power-Encouragement-Changes/dp/B09TN45H36/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3HGP5FPY2E5GD&keywords=the+brave+encourager&qid=1646608516&sprefix=the+brave+encourager%2Caps%2C223&sr=8-1 Join my mailing list: https://landing.mailerlite.com/webforms/landing/t5u2y5 Find more: www.heidimortensonlmft.com If you are in crisis, help is available by call or text 1-800-273-8255 24/7. 54. Avoiding Emotions and Offloading Hurt Strategies Commonly Used

Most of us don’t feel emotions. We offload emotions. Is this you? Do you find yourself avoiding feelings? I have seen so many mental health clients not be aware of their emotions, or even know the lack of awareness they have. I am not immune to this and have done it as well. Many of us do it without realizing it and have learned it from watching others and how we grew up. Some of us have certain patterns that we regularly use to avoid feelings. Researcher and social worker Brené Brown calls these patterns “Offloading Hurt”. They describe the various unproductive ways that we manage, or discharge emotion when we are trying to avoid feeling it. Whether it be the common numbing with alcohol, shopping or food or other strategies like Chandeliering or stockpiling. In this episode, Heidi talks about the 6 common offloading hurt strategies and what we can do instead. Strategies on what to do when you have an emotion in front of you: Be present. Let God’s presence come. Learn how to be curious. Journal. Talk. Go to therapy.
