Episode 302: Dr. Maira Soliani

Dr. Soliani graduated in 2009 and concluded her anesthesiology specialty in 2013. She holds a PhD since 2016 from Campinas State University (UNICAMP) in Brazil. After realizing that a great part of her patients’ postoperative complications were closely related to modern chronic metabolic diseases and that low-carb, high-healthy-fat (LCHF) diets and fasting could prevent them from becoming sick in the first place, she started treating patients with metabolic diseases and obesity in her clinic in Brazil. Episode 300: Dr. Andrew Mente

He completed post-doctoral training in cardiovascular epidemiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, and is currently an Associate Professor in Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at the Population Health Research Institute, McMaster University. Dr. Mente has studied the role of dietary sodium and cardiovascular diseases in the Prospective Urban Rural Epidemiology (PURE) study—a study whose findings call into question the dietary guidelines around fat, carbohydrates and salt. In this conversation, Drs. Tro and Andrew talk about the impact of dietary salt intake and mortality, the methods used to study how much sodium people are consuming, the history of research on sodium intake and its relation to mortality, the optimal sodium intake range for humans, the history, methods, and findings of the PURE study, the risk to human health that arises from eating processed carbohydrates, the interesting issue of ‘healthy user bias’ in epidemiological studies, dairy intakes and health outcomes, and red meat and health outcomes. Episode 299: Tamzyn Murphy and Dr. Hassina Kajee

Tamzyn Murphy is a registered dietitian with a Master’s Degree in Physiology (Dist.) in which she investigated Low Carbohydrate High Fat Diets and Type 2 Diabetes. Episode 298: Kristin Johnson and Maria Claps

She completed a professional mentorship with naturopathic endocrinologist Dr. Rebecca Provorse in 2020 and is half—along with her partner, Maria—of the health coaching business, Wise and Well. Maria Claps is a functional health coach with a specialty in peri-menopause and menopause. She graduated from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2013 and then went on to study in a hormone program for practitioners with Dr Sara Gottfried in 2014. She completed the Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Certification Program and, in 2017, completed the Menopause Method Program for Physicians with Dr David Rosensweet. She has been personally mentored by hormone scholar Dr Lindsey Berkson and naturopathic endocrinologist Dr Rebecca Provorse. She now mentors other health coaches and nutritionists to help them understand the unique and profound hormone changes of midlife.
