218 | Claire Fountain on Food Psychology, Comparison, Complexities Body Positivity, Sustainable Self-Love, Writing, Social Media + more
I find guests for this podcast in a myriad of ways . Today's guest was recomended by a podcast listener and longtime internet friend. Our cozy conversation in her Manhattan apartment on a cold Friday night exceeded my expectations and meandered all over. Claire is not only beautiful but wise, insightful, and vulnerable. She's known for yoga yet we barely touched on yoga and instead focusing on her winding path to where she is now including her eating disorder in her teens, how she stumbled into the career she's in now, all the way up to her decision to go on to grad school for psychology. We talked about food psychology, the value of therapy, the complexities body positivity, being a social media influencer and what that even means, sustainable self-love, comparison in social media and beyond, journaling and writing, and much more. I loved meeting Claire and I think you will too. 217 | Kathleen Shannon of Being Boss on Moving, Partnerships, Marriage, Productivity, Money, Real Estate Investments + more
I've been internet friends with Kathleen for what feels like a very long time. She's one of the most supportive, vulnerable, and interesting people I've connected with. The podcast she co-hosts Being Boss has taught me so much over the years so I knew a conversation with Kathleen would be insightful. She recently moved to the state I recently moved away from Michigan, so we started off chatting about moving, having ‘stuff’, big life changes like a move and eventually get into talking about partnerships (from husbands to business partners), motherhood, and get into talking about productivity, money, and even real estate investment, and her rental business.

215 | Adam J. Kurtz on Community, Art, Marriage, Social Media, Self-Help, New York and more
I don't remember how or when I stumbled upon this week's podcast guest Adam J. Kurtz. I feel like he has been in my internet world for years. His work is is honest, useful, and unique while still being relatable and inclusive. When I met him in person to record this episode on a sleepy winter Monday evening at his cozy Brooklyn apartment he shares with his husband, I was delighted to find out he was as great in real life as he seems on the internet. I could have spoken to him for hours but in this conversation we spoke about social media, moving to New York, his meandering career of both full time and freelance work, community, art, being yourself in your work, marriage, success, self-help, and more.

213 | Kimberly Johnson of Magamama on rethinking sex, the Me Too Movement, pregnancy's fourth trimester and more
I serendipitously met Kimberly Johnson founder of Magamama at an event this fall in NYC where she was speaking. Her talk was brief yet I walked away massively inspired and her content stuck with me long after that interaction. I instantly knew I wanted to work with her one-on-one and have her on the podcast. On her recent trip to New York this winter I had a session with her, which was eye opening. After experiencing her work first hand, I sat down with her the next day to record this conversation where we spoke about everything from how she got into this work as a “Vagina proctor,” to the Me Too Movement to slowing down sex, painful sex, communication in sex, to pregnancy, birth healing, and her new book The Fourth Trimester, and much more.

212 | Lacy Phillips of Free & Native on Situational Magnetism, Subconscious Beliefs, Body Image, Style, Authenticity + much more
A few months ago I was introduced to Free & Native's Lacy Phillips through my friend Katie. Over dinner one night Katie mentioned a workshop she’d recently attended in New York led by Lacy. After hearing about her experience, I was intrigued, yet slightly apprehensive because after years of obsession and addiction to all things personal-growth, spirituality, and manifestation I was at a point where I was exhausted by content even in the vicinity of self-help. Despite my trepidation I checked out Free & Native and few clicks and several hours later, I was hooked. Luckily, Lacy’s work is anti-self help while being the most helpful content I’ve stumbled upon in recent years. From her style and aesthetic to her message and wisdom, her work became very meaningful to me in the weeks leading up to this interview so I was a bit nervous to meet her in person when it finally arrived. Fortunately, Lacy was so warm and welcoming putting me at ease the second I walked into her Brooklyn apartment. We sipped a tea infusion she made us (She's also an herbalist) and chatted for hours about everything from bodies and food to style and design to relationships and finding partnership to authenticity, envy, feeling feelings, labels, boundaries, and of course debunking myths about manifestation. She’s the real deal; kind, genuine, smart, articulate, and beautiful. I loved this episode.

211 | Deenie Hartzog-Mislock [season finale] on career changes, freelancing, self-care, love & marriage, body image + more!
I'm grateful for my podcast for many reasons but the top one on that list is that it allows me to have long deep conversations with people I admire and ask them whatever I'm curious about the very first time we meet. Plus we get to have that conversation recorded forever like a time capsule of our first friend date. I met today's guest Deenie on the internet this summer and this fall we recording this conversation at my apartment in New York City. We had a cozy Saturday afternoon together where we drank kombucha and chatted nonstop for hours only breaking to pee. When you eavesdrop on that conversation today you'll hear us discuss everything from how she moved to New York from the south to be a dancer and ended up with a career as a copy director and essayist. She's worked for Vogue, written for Refinery 29, and been featured in the acclaimed New York Time's Modern Love column. Our conversation covers much more than merely her career path to becoming a successful writer-- on the we talk about the uncertainty that come with freelancing and traveling and how she handles lacking routine and self care, and my favorite part of the conversation which was where we talked about relationships, marriage, and how she knew her husband was the one. We of course chatted about body image, her relationship to social media and technology, and spirituality and what she thinks happens when we die. I loved this conversation and most of all meeting Deenie, she's such a great guest to end the season on. Be sure you're subscribed on iTunes and on my email list so you know when we're back with a new season of Let It Out until then enjoy this long meandering episode.
