Episode 35: Biomechanics of Elite Athletic Performance with Bert Massey

In this episode, Bert and I speak about the foundation of all athletic performance, efficient movement. We dive into some of the biggest keys of movement, including the ability to load the body unilaterally.    Outside of Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and a couple of swimming strokes, almost every movement we care about in sports is asymmetrical or involves unilateral loading (including walking, running, throwing, hitting a ball, etc.). Yet many athletes do not adequately train for strength, speed, endurance, and coordination in these asymmetrical patterns.   Looking through the lens of asymmetrical movement, we discuss the relevant hip, foot, and scapular mechanics and how to train them.    Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more!  Follow us on INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/neufitrfp/ Join our FACEBOOK page: https://www.facebook.com/neufitRFP

Episode 34: Discussing Study Results with BioStrap's Chief Science Officer

I'm joined today by Biostrap's Chief Science Officer, Kevin Longoria, and the Director of Research here at NeuFit, Dr. Ramona von Leden, to talk about the results from our first published study.    During our 6 week study, we used Biostrap's clinically validated biometric device to measure the effect of Neubie sessions on the autonomic nervous system of participants. Some of the metrics we tracked were heart rate variability (HRV) and resting heart rate (RHR), two major markers for overall nervous system health. Overall, those metrics improved as a side effect of "typical" sessions with the Neubie and without any direct stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system (i.e., no vagus nerve stimulation, not using our "Master Reset" technique, etc.). We do a deep dive into what happened during the study and discuss some of the implications.    For more information on these results, check out https://apnews.com/press-release/pr-newswire/lifestyle-technology-business-health-chronic-pain-3522d00dc5c3bb152dee0f0d25d1cc55   Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more! Episode 33: Sustainable Strength with World Armlifting Champion Clay Edgin

I'm joined today by my colleague at NeuFit, Clay Edgin. Clay has competed in over 80 strength competitions in 6 countries and coached powerlifting clients for nearly a decade. He discovered NeuFit as a client in preparation for the World Armlifting Championships, the world's premier grip strength competition, held annually in Russia. Listen in as Clay describes his experience using NeuFit for rehabilitation and what it's done for his own training, and why he believes it will enable him to compete in strength sports for many years to come.     Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more! Episode 32: Neurologically-Based Treatment Approaches with RockTape Co-Founder, Dr. Steven Capobianco, DC

In this episode, we are visiting with Steve Capobianco, DC, the co-founder of RockTape. He shares his story of starting RockTape and the incredible education platform that they've built (certifying over 100,000 practitioners worldwide!). He also describes numerous concepts from pain science and the neuro-centric treatment methods that they teach in their curriculum. For our regular listeners, you will recognize a ton of overlap between their approach and ours and see that RockTape offers really valuable tools that complement our work at NeuFit.   Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more! Episode 31: Frequency Specific with Dr. Carolyn McMakin

Dr. Carolyn McMakin is the founder and lead instructor of Frequency Specific Seminars, where she teaches clinicians to use particular frequencies of electrical currents to target specific tissues of the body and address specific conditions and states. It's profound -- and reproducible -- how these specific frequencies can have very precise actions on certain areas of the body. We've seen a lot of benefit combining her work with the Neubie, too, so we wanted to get Dr. McMakin on the show to share more information with all of us.     In this episode, Dr. McMakin gives us a "tour around the body," describing many of the conditions that she's been able to treat with these methods and the profound outcomes that have been achieved. She also shares some of the studies and her proposed mechanisms of action at a cellular level.   Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more! Episode 30: Living the Runga Life with Joe DiStefano

Today, I'm joined by my good friend Joe Distefano. In this episode, Joe talks about his experience recovering form a traumatic brain injury and how specific neurological treatments plus a shift in his mindset ended up making the biggest difference when his progress had stalled. One of the themes you'll hear in this podcast is how Joe's brain injury served as an "indicator" for him. Because it was sensitive to changes in his environment, his condition showed him exactly when his lifestyle was helping or harming him. He was able to use these learning experiences to craft the interventions and tools he now shares with his business, Runga Life.   Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more! Episode 28: A Neurological Approach to Hypertrophy with Dawn Nasta

I'm joined today by Dawn Nasta, a hypertrophy and rehabilitation specialist in the Phoenix area. Dawn's understanding of the nervous system has enabled her to not only get her clients out of pain faster than traditional therapies, but also enabled her to produce champion athletes in the extremely competitive arena of physique sports. She shares insights into how she's been able to help these athletes, including the incredible story of how she helped Ms. Fitness Olympia Whitney Jones avoid surgery and defend her title.    Listen in as Dawn describes how mastering the nervous system can unlock potential for everybody from novices to professional athletes.   Visit our WEBSITE www.neu.fit to learn more! Episode 27: Training Mike Tyson and Other Adventures with Brad Rowe

I'm joined today by Brad Rowe, a professional bodybuilder and trainer to numerous professional athletes and celebrities. In this episode, Brad describes his experiences using the Neubie to help himself recover from various injuries (far ahead of schedule!) and optimize his own training. He then shares how he's used it to help some other incredible athletes. He talks about his work with Mike Tyson, who Brad trained daily for several months in preparation for Mike's comeback fight at age 54, as well as how he used the Neubie to help Dexter Jackson compete on the main Mr. Olympia stage at age 50. Plus, now that he's just retired from professional bodybuilding, Brad gives us a little glimpse into his next project.

Episode 25: Serious Biomechanics with Gary Ward

I'm joined today by Gary Ward of Anatomy in Motion for a deep dive into the biomechanics of movement. Gary has a wonderful model for describing biomechanics, and focuses a lot of his efforts on the feet.    In this episode, we talk about why the feet are so important for efficient, pain-free movement and the many ways that working the feet can help with function, rehabilitation, and overall performance. He talks about the simple foot wedges he developed and how using them to work the feet can even help issues that are far away and seem very unrelated -- like shoulder pain or restrictions. Gary also shares some insights into the education curriculum he offers for rehab and fitness professionals, which I definitely recommend for anyone who's interested!
