How To Avoid Common Pitfalls With Plant-Based Eating With Kerry Song, CEO of Abbot’s Butcher
Is all plant-based eating actually healthy? On this episode of the Live Greatly podcast Kristel Bauer sits down with Kerry Song, the CEO of Abbot's Butcher which is a 100% plant-based meat alternative made from all Real Food and no filler, to take a close look at how to incorporate plant-based options into your diet in a safer way. Kerry shares how some plant based meat alternatives and other products can actually be unhealthy, and what are some ingredients you should be looking out for. Kerry also discusses how having an autoimmune disorder led her down the path of creating Abbot's Butcher and some big takeaways from her entrepreneurial journey. Tune in now! Key Takeaways from This Episode: How Kerry's autoimmune disorder led her down the path of creating Abbot's Butcher Are all plant based foods healthy? What ingredients to look out for when you are eating plant based What does natural flavors really mean? What sets Abbot's Butcher apart from other plant-based meat alternatives Some big life lessons Kerry has learned on her entrepreneurial journey Kristel Bauer recieved some complimentary products from Abbot's Butcher prior to recording to sample and she enjoyed them! ABOUT KERRY SONG: Kerry Song is the founder and CEO of Abbot’s Butcher which is a 100% plant-based meat alternative made from all Real Food and no filler. Kerry earned a bachelor’s in economics from Princeton University and worked as a Derivatives Analyst at Morgan Stanley, but after several years in corporate finance, it became clear to her that this wasn’t the right path. She wanted a career where she could make some sort of social impact. She’d been a long-time proponent of animal welfare and made a commitment to leading a life that honored the lives of all living beings. Adopting a plant-based lifestyle was a core component of this decision. She left finance and joined the marketing team at Tony Robbins where she spent five years working as a Content Strategist, the Executive Producer of The Tony Robbins Podcast, and eventually his Brand Strategist. During this time she learned a lot about being an entrepreneur and was also diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder that turned her life upside down. It forced her to take a step back and really start to think hard about what could control and what changes could she make to help alleviate this situation. All roads led to her diet - what she was putting into my body. Naturally, when you’re plant-based you tend to think “I’m eating healthy” - but the reality was when she looked at the ingredients that were in the meat alternatives she was eating - it was anything but healthy: additives, synthetic chemicals, gums, natural flavors…. She decided to adopt a whole food plant-based diet, but it wasn’t long before she really started to miss having some of her favorite dishes like Spaghetti Bolognese, chicken & rice, hearty salads, tacos and thought there absolutely needs to be a plant-based meat made with ingredients that you can trust and feel good about eating and good after eating. So that’s how the idea for Abbot’s Butcher was born. Key Takeaways from This Episode: Tips for building resiliency A look into Nicole's memoir, 'Nothing Is Missing' What Nicole has learned from struggle What are some of the keys for hapiness and success What are some common areas Nicole's coacking clients struggle with How to embrace change Steps to feel more fulfilled ABOUT Nicole Walters: Nicole Walters is a self-made power woman who became nationally known when she quit her decade long job as an executive for a Fortune 500 company, LIVE online. Even though her bank account was growing exponentially, she felt unfulfilled and bankrupt of the joy and freedom she desired. With a well-thought-out plan, a strong belief in her God- given talents and a deep desire to be her own boss, Nicole left that job and within six months of taking the leap of faith, had successfully converted her part-time side hustle into a full- time business. Since then, she has built a multi-million-dollar personal development and business education empire, by using what she learned in the corporate world and sharing that knowledge with everyday people. Her mission is to inspire people to live life better and to create that lasting legacy that they will be proud of. As the CEO and Founder of Inherit Learning Company, Nicole specializes in business development training and strategic coaching for emerging entrepreneurs and established business owners. From stay at home parents to small business owners, her transformative resources help everyday entrepreneurs get richer—in finances, relationships and health. Inherit Learning Company offers insight into proven corporate strategies and business principles that catapult barely surviving companies into thriving enterprises. Her firm’s unique and immersive programs help business owners gain the confidence and clarity to build profitable ventures doing what they love. Known as the coach you need in your business and personal lives, Nicole is proficient at identifying ways to turn influence into income and popularity into profits. Whether on her top- rated business podcast, The Nicole Walters Podcast, or when she’s dropping gems from an event stage, Nicole champions the long-term payoff of intentionally pursuing purpose. Notable publications such as Forbes, Entrepreneur, Essence and Yahoo! Finance have sought out Nicole for her business expertise and consumer- friendly tips. Millions of listeners, viewers and readers have tuned in to Nicole’s actionable insights. Most recently, Nicole was named to one of Forbes’ Next 1000 Class of 2021 Entrepreneurs who are redefining The American Dream. Nicole’s debut memoir Nothing is Missing, publishing 10/10/2023 with Simon Element chronicles her life as the daughter of Ghanaian immigrants who became a self-made multi-millionaire by showing others how to recognize their own strengths—and her own harrowing journey to the discovery that she was worthy all along of the life of her dreams. Nothing Is Missing is a riveting, unputdownable story of what it takes to show up for yourself—and the joy that can come once you do. Raised in a home where food was unstable and anger was the norm, Nicole learned early that she needed to take charge of her own safety and security. So she did: She got into an elite private school by talking to a stranger in her dad’s cab, she strategized her way onto Wheel of Fortune to pay for college, she adopted three girls after meeting their mother panhandling, she quit her job to launch her own business, and she struggled. Hustling endlessly to try to achieve society’s definition of success left her exhausted, compromising her own sense of worth in order to accommodate others. Nicole worked herself straight into a health crisis that threatened her life and the family she had worked so hard to build. It was not until she was forced into a major reckoning in both her business and her marriage that Nicole realized that she was already enough, that she had and was everything that she needed. In Nothing Is Missing, Nicole contemplates how she was able to create the life she wanted using the strength she had within herself all along. When she’s not helping entrepreneurs optimize their businesses, Nicole enjoys spending time with her three adopted daughters who went from being homeless to finding a forever family. Affectionately known as “Tinies,” Nicole’s daughters are often the subjects hilarious and inspirational social media snippets and snapshots from her day to day juggling of family and business. Her videos have racked up over 30 million views and paved the way for her to star in a new unscripted television series, ‘She’s The Boss’ which premiered on USA Network in 2021.
