Dr. Sloan completed her residency at Baylor College of Medicine where she made history as both the first African-American female Intern in General Surgery and the first African-American female Orthopedic Surgery resident. She has authored and published research projects in Orthopedic Surgery and a joint venture with NASA, Johnson Space Center. Dr. Sloan is the quintessential fusion of her love for science and a passion to help others. Her commitment to impacting lives reaches far beyond the hospital walls and is evident by her work in her community and internationally. She has established two specifically purposed non-profit organizations: ME&WE, Inc. (Motivating & Empowering Women to Excel), which collectively reaches over 5,000 women daily. The other is SLOAN STEM+Arts, an educational diversity initiative. It’s sole purpose is to increase the number of minority students in STEM careers through early exposure and mentoring, impacting financial stability for generations to come. In 2015, along with The Luke Church, Dr. Sloan initiated the philanthropic efforts for an international medical clinic with New Missions Organization in Haiti that now serves a community of more than 100,000 men, women, and children annually. Dr. Sloan currently serves on several Board of Trustees including, Black Women Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Institute of Spirituality and Health, RoweDocs Telemedicine, and Tristar Global Medical Inc. She is a consultant, blogger, and speaker for CompHealth and DairyMax, a national partner to the NFL and Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative, which promotes proper youth daily nutrition. She has been an Adjunct Professor at Concordia University with a focus on Health Care Administration. As a serial entrepreneur, Dr. Sloan helped to launch a telemedicine company as the Virtual OrthoDoc, one of the first of its kind in telehealth and orthopedics. He is an internationally recognized authority on the treatment of shoulder and elbow disorders. He is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University and has recently completed his four year term as the Senior Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Abboud graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Joseph’s University in 1994 with a B.S. in Biology. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine where he was promoted with “Distinction.” He earned membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Society and graduated with honors in 1998. He went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he served as the administrative chief resident. He subsequently completed two (one-year) fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania in Shoulder and Elbow surgery and orthopaedic biomechanics. He has presented over 500 lectures nationally and internationally and is the author of over 200 scientific articles and several textbooks. He has an active interest in basic science research focusing on the modulation of scar formation after injury and surgery, biologic markers for prediction of rotator cuff healing, as well as the role of cholesterol in tendon health. This research has been funded by prestigious grants from the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. With his expertise in these areas, he is frequently invited to teach and lecture locally, regionally, and nationally. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he completed residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dr. Atanda also completed fellowships in pediatric orthopedic surgery, at Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children, and in sports medicine surgery, at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University. His future goals and aspirations are to re-imagine how healthcare is delivered by leveraging digital health and telemedicine technology to appropriately triage, navigate, evaluate, and treat orthopedic patients.
