Ep 228: 10 Tips for Hosting Houseguests (REPLAY)
This episode originally aired in August 2021, and is one of my personal favorites. Ready to bust out the air mattresses? This episode is FULL of practical, logistical, and emotional tips for hosting people in your home. I'm sharing everything from the 4 things that keep (most) guests happy, to the mindset shifts that will keep you from being overwhelmed or resentful.Look, if there's one subject I can give many (many) words to, it's hosting houseguests. Since I moved to Los Angeles 20 years ago, I've hosted friends and family of all group sizes, from couch crashers in a tiny apartment to my entire extended family at our new home last month. Our lovely lake house has also been a revolving door of guests over the years, where I've become an expert at managing meals, airport pickups, activities, and downtime for families and groups. I know that having guests can be an absolute honor and also completely exhausting. I hope this episode gives you the tools to plan and the freedom from pressure the next time you're the host.FULL SHOW NOTES ARE HERE SUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff. Ep 227: Time Anxiety (REPLAY)
This episode originally aired in November 2021, and has been one of the most downloaded and referenced episodes of the show. Have you ever had the thoughts:I don’t have enough timeTime is passing me byI’m wasting too much timeIf this is something that really affects your mood, your schedule, and you're full of frazzle, overwhelm, or a continuing existential crisis, then you may have Time Anxiety. (Not an official thing - just a name I gave to something that affects me regularly.)In this episode, I’m sharing about my own Time Anxiety and how it hurts my productivity and my parenting. I’m also talking about how to notice ALL the messages we get in our culture about TIME, and why those messages are giving us constant low-level hums of anxiety.I’m also sharing a few concrete methods I use to combat Time Anxiety.I hope you find this episode helpful or at the very least like you’re not the only one obsessed with the passage and managing of time.Mentioned in this episode:My IG post about Time AnxietyHeadspace meditation appOther episodes about anxiety:Episode 18: 10 Thoughts on AnxietyEpisode 57: Is it anxiety or is it intuition?Ep 213: Anxiety always makes senseFULL SHOW NOTES ARE HERESUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff. Are you thriving or are you just...fine? What about your friendships? Two podcasters I've listened to for YEARS are tackling a new series this summer on friendship (the topic on everyone's tongue). I was so excited to welcome Kristen Meinzer and Jolenta Greenberg from the How To Be Fine podcast (formerly By The Book) to the show to talk about their podcasting roots, their relationship as business besties, their experiment of living by the advice of self-help books, and their latest project on friendship.Listen to the How To Be Fine podcastBuy the How To Be Fine bookListen to the new By The Book episodes on PatreonFollow How To Be Fine on IGFollow Kristen on IGFollow Jolenta on IGSUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff. Ep 226: Hollywood Horror Story
This is a story about growing up feeling like an outsider and finding a book that made you feel less alone. And then growing up to create an adaptation of that book for the screen, in a dream project that took years to complete. This is a story about my friend Jill Killington and her work on the tv adaptation of Stephen King's THE STAND.You don't have to like horror or Hollywood to appreciate this conversation. Jill gives us a behind-the-scenes Hollywood perspective that was new and fascinating to me even after knowing her for 20+ years and sharing a longtime love of Stephen King. I think you are going to love the insight and insider stories she shares in this episode.NOTE: There are spoilers for THE STAND in this episode. Ep 225: Change Happens When You're Looking The Other Way (The Birthday Episode)
It's my birthday week! I'm turning 45. And every year around this time, I do a birthday episode looking back and looking ahead. This year's theme is about the quiet changes that happen when you're distracted, or busy, or not paying attention.Last year on my birthday I was convinced that something HUGE was going to happen in my 44th year. I thought I had an intuition about it. I journaled my heart out about what was coming for me. And then...when I approached the end of 2023 and then eventually the end of my 44th year, I was disappointed that what I thought was a premonition hadn't come true.Instead, what I found was that I fundamentally changed in the last year. Through a series of events, heart aches, conversations, and maturity, I find myself at a really different place than I was last June. And while it might not be the seismic event I was anticipating, it has been earth shifting all the same.FULL SHOW NOTES HEREMENTIONED in this episode:Join us for Stephen King Summer!Ep 201: 10 Things I Learned in 2023Ep 180: 4 Metaphors for Turning 44June Journal Parties on IGSecret Stuff patreon has personal episodes like this every month SUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff. Ep 223: You Only Die Once (a conversation about living with Jodi Wellman)
Jodi Wellman is focused on death. And she wants you to think about it more, too.Death is (clearly) not a popular topic, and something most of us avoid thinking about at all costs. But Jodi believes that knowing you have something to lose can help you live like you mean it. Her new book You Only Die Once: How To Make It To The End With No Regrets can walk you through making the most of your time on this earth. In this episode, author and speaker Jodi Wellman shares 5 ways to live like you're dying:Count your Mondays (quantifying your time can be remarkably clarifying)Diagnose the dead zones (areas in life that feel dead inside)Identify your deathbed pre-grets (regrets-in-the-making that can still be course-corrected)Live wider (with vitality) and deeper (with meaning): identify a list of enlivening endeavors Pick one small thing to take action on at a timeLearn more about Jodi WellmanBuy You Only Die Once: How To Make It To the End With No RegretsFollow Jodi Wellman on IGFULL SHOW NOTES HEREJOIN STEPHEN KING SUMMER HERESUBSCRIBE to 10 Things To Tell You so you never miss an episode!CLICK HERE for episode show notesFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on InstagramFOLLOW @10ThingsToTellYou on FacebookJOIN the 10 Things To Tell You Connection GroupSIGN UP for episode emails, links, and show notesJOIN the Secret Stuff PatreonBUY THE BOOK: Share Your Stuff.
