Ep 91: Mommy Juice Culture and the Sober Mom Squad

This is an important episode. In this conversation with Emily Lynn Paulson and Celeste Yvonne, we’re discussing the prevalence of the “mommy juice” culture, the jokes, memes, and idea that parenthood requires drinking for survival. Both openly sober for years, Emily and Celeste created the Sober Mom Squad, a community created during the COVID-19 pandemic that hosts weekly free virtual meetings to discuss motherhood and our transitions to new family dynamics and homeschooling. In the episode, Emily and Celeste share their (very different) personal stories, and offer tips and thoughts on coping through a pandemic and during the holiday season without using alcohol. Please note: I am not sober. I drink alcohol. But I have also become concerned with the motherhood culture that pushes drinking as a means to deal with anything hard. I originally recorded this episode as a BONUS, but decided it was such an important topic that I wanted it to land in as many ears as possible. What I’m hoping you’ll hear in this conversation with Emily and Yvonne is just an invitation to think about alcohol differently. Full show notes here. Find out more about Sober Mom Squad. Ep 87: 3 Mistakes I've Made Recently

Mistakes. We’ve all made ‘em. In this episode, I wanted to share 3 mistakes I’ve made recently (personally and professionally) as a jumping off point for talking about missteps, how we corrected them, and what we learned. Of course, not all mistakes are equal. And we don’t always want to harp on things we did wrong. But it can be helpful to hear about other people’s mess ups, and talking about it can hold us accountable for our own actions. Because next time we’ll do it differently. Right? This episode features listener voices at the end sharing their own recent mistakes.  Full show notes here. Ep 86: 10 Thoughts on Therapy

This episode is for anyone curious about therapy. October is Mental Health Awareness Month, and so I wanted to put together a few thoughts on the number one thing that has helped me navigate my anxiety: talk therapy. I’ve struggled with anxiety since childhood, but I didn’t try therapy until I was 35 years old, and drowning under the weight of new motherhood and postpartum. In this episode, I am sharing 10 thoughts on therapy, including how to find a therapist, how to pay for therapy, and some of the most important things I’ve learned in 6 years of regular therapy after decades of coping with my mental health alone. Please note: I am not an expert of any kind. Please talk to a doctor or medical professional if you are experiencing mental health struggles. This episode is only meant to share my own experience. Also note: I am talking about general talk therapy. There are many specialized treatments and therapists available for a wide range of issues dealing in trauma, relationships, etc. Always research the help you’re seeking. Full show notes here. Ep 85: Ask Me in 3 Months (2020)

This episode is for anyone who has ONE BIG TASK they really want to get done before the end of the year. It’s October, which means we have less than three months until the end of the year. And while 2020 has been one of the weirdest years in modern history, we still somehow have normal life things that have slipped through the cracks. Those things that we just keep procrastinating: home improvement, emotional chores, creative projects. These aren’t goals, they’re just tasks, the ones that keep slipping to the bottom of the priority list. Let’s commit to choosing ONE thing we want to get done between now and the end of 2020 and share it as a way to stay accountable. Let’s make our future January 2021 selves super proud of how we finished the Wild West of 2020. Original 10 Things To Tell You social media challenge Ask Me in 3 Months (2019) Full show notes here.
