Ep 73: I wrote a book! (Agents, publishers, writing, and editing.)

This episode is for anyone curious about the process of writing and publishing.  I wrote a book! Share Your Stuff. I'll Go First will launch in February 2021, but I'm taking some time this week to talk all about the behind-the-scenes details I've always been curious about with other authors.  I'm answering questions from the 10TTTY Connection group about how I got an agent, crafted a book proposal, signed a book deal with a publisher, wrote & edited the book, and chose a cover.  There is SO MUCH to say about this longtime dream coming to fruition, after years of uncertainty and rejection.  This episode is sponsored by NATIVE. Ep 72: Has the internet ever changed your mind?

This episode is for anyone who has has been told that there's no use fighting on facebook.  Has the internet ever changed your mind on an issue? Is it easier to hear a new perspective from friends and acquaintances or from strangers? The episode is all about the ways that people’s social media posts ARE changing our culture, through snark, humor, memes or thoughtful shared experiences. Let’s be honest about when a post has opened our eyes or when we’ve decided to dig in our heels. I share my own thoughts on this topic, as well as a few ways (some silly, some serious) that the internet has changed my perspective. At the end of the show a few listeners chime in with their thoughts. This episode is sponsored by SKILLSHARE. Ep 71: Kendra Adachi is The Lazy Genius

This episode is part friendship, part therapy, part work/life balance. I am so excited to share this conversation with my friend Kendra Adachi (aka The Lazy Genius) because not only do we talk about being “work friends” and how that narrow relationship title offers us freedom in our friendship, but Kendra also applies her Lazy Genius principles to my problem prioritizing work tasks. And I have kind of am embarrassing breakthrough.  This episode is sponsored by Care/Of. Ep 70: Age is just a number, right?

Please indulge me in a little birthday episode. I turn 41 this week and though it’s not the major milestone I celebrated last year, I still have things to say. This episode is half nostalgic nonsense and half preach-y. I guess this is what happens when I go off script.  This episode is sponsored by SKILLSHARE.  Full show notes here. Ep 69: BONUS! 22+ Things we watched in quarantine

This BONUS episode is for anyone looking for something interesting to watch (for families and for grown ups). On roughly week 11 of the Los Angeles lockdown due to the coronavirus, I sat down with my husband Jeff and our two kids - ages 8 & 10 - for a lighthearted chat about all the movies, documentaries, and tv series we watched during quarantine since this season meant a LOT more screen time for our family than usual.  Full show notes here. Ep 68: Hometown: A conversation about race with LaToyia Brown, Monica Pickens, and Danielle Williams

This episode is for anyone trying to understand another person's experience.  I’ve wanted to have this conversation with my hometown friends since I made the BIAS series on Smartest Person in the Room in 2018. I preferred to do it in person back then, but when the recent protests started over the murder of George Floyd, I asked if they would be willing to record online instead. LaToyia Brown, Monica Pickens, Danielle Williams and I grew up in Ardmore, Oklahoma, a town that sits on I-35 about halfway between Oklahoma City and Dallas. Population 25,000. Ardmore is 63.2% White and 10.2% Black. I am white and LaToyia, Monica, and Danielle are Black. As I’m learning more about the racial divide in our country, I wanted to ask these friends about their lives in our hometown. I wondered if they experienced discrimination, what was taught in their homes and churches, and what they think about America now versus when we were kids. I had no idea what they were going to say when I pressed record. Our conversation is vulnerable, honest, and imperfect. But the point of 10 Things To Tell You is to forge connection through conversation, and I believe that is what happened here. Ep 66: Do you have a morning routine?

This episode is for anyone looking for an anchor to their day. I promise I'm not going to tell you to get up at 5am. I hold the word "morning" pretty loosely in this context, but I do think a time to pause and commit to ritual at some point in your day can bring much needed structure.  On this episode, I'm sharing my personal morning routine and giving you a few different ways to think about this topic.  SIGN UP HERE to receive the brand spankin' new episode emails!
