The Opportunity to Be More than Meets the Eye with Chantel Soumis

Chantel Soumis is a Brand Sorcerous, a Motivational Keynote Speaker, and an Advocate for the Differently Abled. She’s showing up on a regular basis in major publications, large live events, and all over social media. Chantel’s life has been one of significant challenge and while those challenges would have shut most people down, it fired Chantel up. She has learned to work through a diagnosis of MS (multiple sclerosis) that has included being a wife, a mommy, and a phenomenal business leader. Our conversation spans many topics, including dealing with disabilities, utilizing our mind to overcome obstacles and challenges, and why being positive doesn’t negate struggle, hurt, and heartache. I had a lot of fun in this episode, but we discuss serious topics that are helpful for every single person to hear, whether you are experiencing them yourself or you are walking through them with others. Fear. Is it good, bad, or something else altogether? We decided to have a conversation on this topic after a Linked post that John made a few weeks (here – https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnwelch…). Building Better Futures with Jennifer Bashant

Jennifer Bashant is the CEO of Building Better Futures, LLC. She is a trainer, coach, and speaker with the mission to empower people to live their best lives. Her work takes her into the corporate world as well as into the education system. Jennifer and I got right into a few wonderful topics, including: The importance of learning and understanding people’s gifts and talents in order to showcase them versus looking for their problems and how to address them. Why intrinsic motivation is the right type of motivation to focus on. The reason many of the problems addressed at the corporate level are rooted in the education system (and how to work through them). Finding the proper balance between giving grace for people to learn and grow while pushing people to be the best they can be. While Jennifer and I spend a considerable amount of time speaking about her work in the education system, these thoughts span across all age levels. We never outgrow the foundational principles necessary to achieve excellence in life and business. Reflecting on 2019 and preparing for 2020

In this first episode of 2020, I couldn’t help but take some time to reflect on how amazing 2019 was. Now that doesn’t mean that 2019 was all rainbows and unicorns because I was presented with some significant challenges, but what it means was that even through all of that, I am more fulfilled then I’ve ever been. In this episode, I take some time to share my practices of reflection and vision casting, I share some high highs and low lows and how I dealt with them, and much more. Above all else, I wanted to take some time to say thank you to each and every person that has listened to an episode of this podcast, has engaged with me on social media, or has in some other way positively contributed to this amazing life that I’m living. And while you’ll hear it on the podcast I’ll say it again….THANK YOU! Enjoy and here’s to an amazing 2020! Work to the Glory of God

I deeply believe that I have been called to do the work I do. And that through the work I do, I have the amazing opportunity to glorify God. Recently, I was able to preach a sermon entitled “Work to the Glory of God”. After listening back, I thought that this would be great to share with you. Whether you believe in God or not, I am confident you will find encouragement in what you are doing and maybe even clarity in things you desire to pursue. Here are a few notes: The way God works God works to create – Gen 1 God works to care by providing for his creation – Gen 2 God works to cultivate – Gen 2:15 (work it and keep it) This means: Work is God-given (this is part of why we were created). Work is good The Gospel lens at work Honor God first, earn a wage second (1 Cor 6:19-20) Serve others, even at your own expense (Matt 20:25-28) Work as unto the Lord (Col 3:23) The way we work As employees: Work with respect and fear (Eph 6:5a) Work with sincerity of heart (Eph 6:5b) Work hard always (Eph 6:6) Work with a good will (Eph 6:7) As employers: You are no better or different (titles at work distort worth and value) Fear should not be used to motivate (God-honoring character motivates) Treat everyone the same. As always, I appreciate your feedback so let me know what you think of this episode by emailing me at ryan@ryanjamesmiller.com Direct links to podcast: Spotify – http://bit.ly/spotify-exsellence Apple – http://bit.ly/apple-exsellence YouTube – Exsellence Mindset Channel Connect with me: LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/rjmsalespro Instagram – @rjmsalepro Twitter @rjmsalespro Web – https://ryanjamesmiller.com/The post Work to the Glory of God first appeared on Ryan James Miller.

Fatherhood on Fire: Building a Foundation for Fulfillment

Every so often, I am blessed with an opportunity to be on the other side of the microphone as a guest on someone else’s podcast. And recently, Ryan Sullivan invited me to do just that on his podcast, Fatherhood on Fire. Here’s what he had to say to describe our conversation together. Ryan brings the heat! We talk about Servant Leadership at home. The challenges he had to overcome to be the leader he wants to be at home. We dive deep into the social media post that caused me to reach out to Ryan as a guest.  Ryan’s oldest daughter, in her senior year, was informed she was going to play on the JV Water Polo. After the initial anger subsided she made the very mature decision to step back from water polo and focus on swimming which she is stronger at and expects to finish well at. She took the extra step to sit down individually with each of her coaches and explain her thought process around her decision and express her gratitude to them. Both coaches said it was the first time a student-athlete had ever had such a conversation with them. What we can take away from this as fathers: Give your children time to work through those situations instead of forcing them to make a decision when we want them to make it. It happened because their household celebrates effort over outcomes. As a result, they’re able to identify the leading indicators for why things are or are not going the way we hoped them to. By them as parents demonstrating their commitment to reward and punish based on effort, not outcomes allows their kids to test the waters and figure these things out instead of the fear of “I did or did not make the team.” Laying that foundation as parents have produced really great results in times like this. AND that means as adults in the house we need to set the same standards for ourselves. At the beginning of 2019, for the first time in more than 10 years, Ryan decided not to write down any goals. He chose instead to focus on who he wanted to be as a person, based on the identity below, and focus on the habits that lead to the fulfillment of that identity.  10 Habits: Read Everyday- First thing in the morning: Bible, current events, books that make him a better Christian, husband, father, coach, or consultant. Work out 5 days a week – focus first on health, then improvement, then achievement. Sleep a minimum of 7 hours a night. Meditate 10 minutes per week. Make good food choices – limit sugar, junk food, and alcohol. Date wife twice per month. Invest or save a minimum amount of money each month. Give a minimum amount of money each month. Create high-value content 5 days per week for business owners and salespeople. Invest in myself through personal and professional development. Personal Identity: Christian Husband Father Friend Athlete Pastor Business Leader Give it a listen and let me know what you think.
