Episode 158: Get BariEDucated

For this episode I am joined by two amazing women who thoroughly understand the bariatric community. Kelly Broadwater is a certified eating disorder specialist with extensive experience working in the field of bariatrics. Chaundra Evans is a registered dietician who specializes in bariatrics and eating disorders. They have been working together to help hundreds of bariatric patients over the past 20 years and have recently published a book, aptly titled BariEDucated. While this book is geared more toward bariatric professionals, their work is with patients. These two women totally understand the bariatric population and, in addition to working with patients individually and in groups, they are reaching out to professionals in this book to help them learn and understand what patients want and need them to know about working with them! Listen in and hear the reasons I asked them to be guests on this podcast! You’ll love the work they do! I know I do!Resources:BariAfterare: www.bariaftercare.comConnie Stapleton PhD website: www.conniestapletonphd.comBariAftercare website: https://www.conniestapletonphd.com/bariaftercareBariAftercare Facebook page (for members only): https://www.facebook.com/groups/BariAftercareBariEDucated: bebarieducated.com and info@bebarieducated.com  Instagram: @therealbariboss (Tabitha Johnson)Instagram @drsusanmitchell (Dr. Susan Mitchell)Instgram: @lauraleepreston (Laura Preston)Instagram: @chefhealthyhenry (Henry Baker)Instagram: @cale101 (Caleshia Haynes)Instagram: @myweightishistory (Rob Dimedio)Busy Bariatrics: https://busybariatrics.com/Please subscribe to the show and rate it on Apple Podcasts, download free information at www.conniestapletonphd.com, and follow me on Twitter (@cstapletonphd), Instagram (@cstapletonphd), YouTube, LinkedIn, and on Facebook.

We chose it because the research is extensive and makes it clear that using accountability measures improves the likelihood of experiencing success, in particular when it comes to keeping weight off! Listen in and learn reasons people quit following through with these beneficial strategies and how about you recommit to being more accountable in your weight journey. The BariAftercare community can definitely help! Episode 154: Alone or Lonely?

We’ve all been alone and I’m guessing we’ve all felt lonely at times… in fact, I’d venture to say that most of us have felt lonely at times when we are with other people and when we have been alone. In this episode, I’ll talk about the physical and mental health benefits of spending some time alone and, if you’re uncomfortable being alone, I’ll share some tips on how to make that a bit easier. Episode 151: Passive-Aggressive Communication

Wait… What? There’s passive communication… we’ve gone over that. There’s aggressive communication… we’ve talked about that! What then, is passive-aggressive communication? I mean, passive communication and aggressive communication couldn’t be any more opposite? What’s up with combining the two into a category of communication all its own?! Passive-Aggressive communication. Yep – it’s a thing. A not-at-all healthy thing! Listen in and hear how this interesting combination of behaviors converge into one confusing, and one very unhealthy way of expressing yourself… again possibly leading to emotional eating and the ultimate result of that… the dreaded regain. Episode 150: Passive Communication

We’ve discussed the most healthy form of communication, Assertive communication, and we’ve discussed a pretty detrimental form of communication, Aggressive communication! In this episode, I’ll be explaining what is referred to as a PASSIVE communication style. Passive communication is another form of less-than-healthy communication and one used by a LOT of folks… namely those who “want to avoid conflict at any cost.” Sound like anyone you know? Sounds like a LOT of people I talk with in my work! Listen in and learn how to break yourself of passively communicating (which, by the way, sets you up to be taken advantage of, which can lead to feeling resentful, which can lead to emotional eating, which WILL lead to weight regain)… Let’s DEFINITELY avoid THAT at all costs!
