Accessing Consciousness via TM & Ayurveda with Dr. Donn Brennan - 162
Dr. Donn Brennan was one of the first western medical doctors to train in India in Maharishi's Vedic Approach to Health. Dr. Brennan became disillusioned with the conventional medical model and was disappointed that the emphasis was on 'disease' rather than on 'prevention' and 'health.' In 1982 he decided to study and practice Transcendental Meditation (TM). He qualified as a TM teacher and was amazed at how many people reported a marked improvement in their health as they meditated. The turning point in Dr. Brennan’s career came when he discovered that the Ayurvedic healthcare system incorporates TM, connecting consciousness with physiology. Since 1990 Dr. Brennan has worked full-time promoting, lecturing and consulting in Maharishi's Vedic Approach to Health. Colette chats with Dr. Brennan about the following topics: Dr. Brennan's journey from Western medical doctor to TM and Ayurveda. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's teachings on accessing consciousness via TM and Ayurveda. Pragnyaparadha - transgression of wisdom. How the reductionist paradigm delayed the progression of Ayurveda and medicine. Reductionism and individualism. Collective awareness and awakening with transcendental meditation. Focus On The Gunas, Not The Doshas - 158
Ayurveda teaches us that there are 20 gunas/qualities and these qualities are the polarities of all the forces in the universe and everything in the universe can be defined by these qualities. They are put into 10 pairs of opposites: Heavy/Light Dull/Sharp Cold/Hot Oily/Dry Smooth/Rough Dense/Liquid Soft/Hard Static/Mobile Gross/Subtle Cloudy/Clear The Ayurvedic healing system is based on these 10 pairs of opposites and the principle that ‘Like increases Like and Opposites Pacify’.
