80 - Alex Kocman on the Regulative Principle Applied to Missions
In this interview with Alex Kocman, we discuss the rift between theology and the world of missions. Many times there seems to be disconnect between those who are concerned with orthodoxy and those who are concerned with reaching the lost. Alex (and his co-author Chad Vegas) wrote “Missions by the Book” in order to help relieve this tension and provide a better way forward. We dive into some of the ideas in the book, primarily discussing their use of the regulative principle and how it can be applied to missions. We highlight some examples in Muslim contexts of evangelism and church planting. Bio from website - “Alex Kocman a husband, father, student of theology, writer, former youth pastor, missionary mobilizer, and lay leader in his church. He received his M.A. in Media and Communication Studies and B.S. in Biblical Studies through Liberty University, where he also served as an online evangelism and apologetics instructor with Liberty University Online from 2012-2014. From there, he spent two years as a Student Ministry Coordinator at LCBC (Lives Changed By Christ) Church. He now serves as Director of Advancement and Communications for ABWE, a theologically conservative, gospel-centered missions agency with more than 1,000 missionaries in nearly 70 countries. His writing has been featured in various outlets including For the Church, 9Marks, Biblical Missiology, Founders Ministries, Doctrine and Devotion, Message Magazine and ABWE’s blog, Liberty University News, American Bible Society’s Record Magazine, and Christian Life News.He resides with his wife and three children in York, Pennsylvania, where he spends his free time studying theology, weightlifting, and nursing a heavy coffee addiction. 79 - Patrick Downey on the Bible as Serious Comedy
In this interview with Patrick Downey, we discuss his book Serious Comedy in which he makes the case that the Bible is a work of comedy. “Because of the Bible we inherit the expectation that we can live serious lives in writing; but because we no longer believe in the one divine poet who could make this possible, the joke is always on us for we can no longer take our own comedies seriously.” Patrick and I discuss the philosophy of Plato, Aristotle, Schmitt, and Machiavelli. We explore how the tension between comedy and tragedy plays out in our world today in art and politics. 78 - Doug Ponder on the Weaponization of Confession and the Problem of Authenticity
In this interview with Doug Ponder, we discuss the practice of public confession of sin as a means of reaching people which is often practiced by many leaders in evangelicalism today. We explore Scriptures related to this issue such as “judgement begins at the household of God” and “pulling the log out of your own eye.” We also discuss hypocrisy and authenticity. Authenticity is a key word associated with expressive individualism. Should Christians be authentic? What does it mean to walk in obedience to God even when we don’t feel like?Support the show!! - https://www.patreon.com/chasedavisGrimke Seminary - https://grimkeseminary.org/Doug Ponder on Twitter - https://twitter.com/dougponderRemnant Church - https://remnantrva.com/Support the showSign up for the Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/chasedavisFollow Full Proof Theology on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/fullprooftheology/Follow Full Proof Theology on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/fullprooftheology/

74 - Colin Redemer on Competition, Sport, and Christianity
In this interview with Colin Redemer (Professor), we discuss a topic that I’ve been curious to explore for most of my life. Competition and sport are major sources of formation and even entertainment. How should Christians think about sports? Do sports inherently require that one embrace a vice to win? What should Christians make of violent competition? We discuss how some of these concepts play out in the church and theological study by exploring Colin’s role at Davenant. Bio - Colin Redemer is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Saint Mary’s College of California and the Vice President of the Davenant Institute. 71 - On Laws of Attraction, Being a Servant Leader, and Complementarianism
What is the basis of men, not women, being pastors? How are we to understand the biblical norm of male headship and creational designs of masculinity? In this episode, I dive into a variety of topics related to male leadership and gender differences. There has been much literature produced on the concept of servant leadership as the biblical paradigm for husbands and pastors. But what if it is wrong? I explore the concept of the laws of attraction from Aaron Renn, the Danvers Statement, and an article by James Jordan on Liturgical Man. This episode was inspired by a question on my Patreon page.
