L.A. Bounty (1989) Review
L.A. Bounty (1989) synopsis: “A tough female ex-cop-turned-bounty hunter goes after the gang of a crazed killer who murdered her partner.”Starring: Sybil Danning, Wings Hauser, Henry Darrow, and Lenore KasdorfDirector: Worth KeeterAfter a short Wings-free hiatus, Zak brings us another movie starring our beloved Mr. Hauser as a fantastic villain! Witchboard (1986) Review
Witchboard (1986) synopsis: “When his girlfriend becomes dangerously obsessed with a ghost she contacted using a ouija board, Jim reluctantly joins forces with her ex - his own estranged childhood best friend - to identify and exorcise the evil spirit.”Starring: Todd Allen, Tawny Kitaen, and Stephen NicholsDirector: Kevin TenneyThis week on Podcasting After Dark, we review Kevin Tenney’s (Night of the Demons 1988) directorial debut, Witchboard (1986)! Zak originally had this movie further down the queue but bumped it to the top once we heard of Tawny Kitaen’s unfortunate passing. We hope this episode serves as a tribute to her as well as a reminder why this movie is so great! If you haven’t seen Witchboard before, like co-host Corey prior to this review, we highly recommend checking it out before listening. It’s infinitely better than it probably has any right to be! Also, we made a little drinking game to go with the movie and podcast episode. This time, instead of the guest choosing the topic, Corey is pairing up with his BFOP Network podcasting peers to discuss Corey’s favorite things (which are mostly of a science fiction nature)!Starting with sci-fi guns, Corey felt that John Speas from The Blast From Our Past would be the perfect person to talk to about this topic. Screamers (1995) Review
Screamers (1995) synopsis: “A military commander stationed off planet during an interplanetary war travels through the devastated landscape to negotiate a peace treaty, but discovers that the primitive robots they built to kill enemy combatants have gained sentience.”Starring: Peter Weller, Roy Dupuis, Jennifer Rubin, and Charles Edwin PowellDirector: Christian DuguayThis week on Podcasting After Dark, Corey walks us through the mid-90s cult sci-fi/horror movie, Screamers (1995)! This was a film that he always enjoyed as a kid but didn’t appreciate its greatness until he was much older. The themes and ideas being examined in Screamers holds up very well in 2021! You throw in some great set deign and fantastic performances from every actor involved and you have an amazing example of how to do low-budget sci-fi right!
