Learn about the São João festival in Porto! This famous festival has many unique traditions and symbols, from plastic hammers to the cascatas that are built and displayed along the streets. Cascatas means waterfalls or cascades, but here it refers to models of miniature villages, showing scenes from life long ago.

Clark visits the local Loja do Cidadão to get his NIF (Portuguese tax number). He has to wait a while, but once his number is called, it's a quick and easy process! One important vocabulary word to note is senha. This translates to password, but it also refers to the tickets you take from a machine when waiting for assistance. It's usually a little slip of paper with a number, or a letter and number, such as A3. You listen or look for that senha to know when it's your turn.
