BEST OF: Central and Peripheral Nervous System Adaptation and Recovery
SHR # 2431 :: BEST OF: Central and Peripheral Nervous System Adaptation and Recovery - Kelly Baggett - This show originally aired in December of 2006. Strength has little to do with muscle size and all to do with central and peripheral nervous system development. The nervous systems ability to recruit more muscle fibers is the true source of strength. This never rang truer till I was a judge at a Powerlifting event where I was fortunate enough to see a young man named Ron Palmer deadlift 700 pounds and bench over 500 pounds at 181 pounds. I remember seeing him at enrolment time. He didn't draw near the attention that the Heavyweights did but he outperformed many of them on the platform. What I recall most of all was watching the wave of muscle being recruited in his back as he pulled the 700 pounds off the floor. It was like one of those aerial views of the shockwave radiating outward from a nuclear blast in the desert. It was the moment that the concept of nervous system development crystallized for me. On this episode of Super Human Radio we'll explore proper techniques to increase nervous system development, adaptation and recovery as well as some common mistakes that athletes make that hampers their progress. We will also give some specific training examples of routines that can help you make greater strength gains in less time.

BEST OF: Anti-aging Pill For Pennies A Day
SHR # 2430 :: BEST OF: Anti-aging Pill For Pennies A Day - Dr. Russel Reiter - This show originally aired in January of 2007. All of the things we thought about melatonin, and more, have come to fruition. Now melatonin is being heralded not as much of a sleep aid as it is in reducing chronic inflammation, And it crosses the blood-brain-barrier which is unique for any antioxidant. Oh yeah, its one of the most powerful antioxidants as well. Studies have show that it protects the brain against the disruptive effects of high frequency transmitters like cell phones and cordless phones. It's the one supplement I have used consistently and continuously for over 20 years now. In this first-of-many interviews with Dr. Reiter he talks about using 20 mg of melatonin nightly. In 2018 when I communicated with him last he was up to 60 mg a night. Dr. Reiter is still publishing papers on the pineal gland and its primary hormone melatonin.

BEST OF: Big Beyond Belief
SHR # 2429 :: BEST OF: Big Beyond Belief - Leo Costa - This show originally aired in April of 2007. His book, Big Beyond Belief was a seminal work in the world of greater strength, and indirectly size, to come along in decades. After living with the Bulgarian Strength Team and their Coaches, Leo brought to the USA a glimpse at Bulgarian Burst Training. A way of flirting with overtraining that actually made you stronger. If you consider yourself a true physical culturist this book is a must-read. If you have read it, dust it off an read it again.

BEST OF: Seeing The Bigger Picture - Sustainable Strength Gains
SHR # 2428 :: BEST OF: Seeing The Bigger Picture - Sustainable Strength Gains - Wade Johnson - This show was not Coach Johnson's first appearance on SHR. He first appeared in early 2006. This show aired in March of 2007. I've know Wade for a lot longer than I've been doing the podcast so it was a comfortable chat as I was still a little stiff behind the mic. I don't even have any of the old notes OR SHOW DESCRIPTION SINCE ITS LONG BEEN REMOVED FROM THE SERVER. Its about getting strong and staying strong and in light of the fact that Coach Wade keeps winning medals in Olympic lifting (his new love) and PowerLifting (his original love) at his advanced old-ass age (I can say that because I'm older than him.. just call me dirt) I think you should listen to this interview every day for a week because if that old proof pudding thing is real, he knows stuff because he's not slowing down.
