Could a hair treatment change your life?
When you think of Keratin hair treatments, the words that often come to mind are chemical-soaked, stinky, time-consuming and well, they just sound like a lot of hard work (and money). However, there’s a new breed of treatments in salons that promise the same kind of hair-smoothing effects, with less of ALL of the above. And hey, if they promise to reduce styling time so you can get out the door faster, we thought it was worth doing some digging to find out if they’re all they’re cracked up to be… Each Thursday, Body+Soul digital editor Alison Izzo (who, by her own admission, is no beauty expert) and Body+Soul beauty editor Kelsey Ferencak (who, is a bonafide expert with years of experience speaking to experts) get together to try and crack the everyday beauty problems that plague us all. The treatments: Goldwell Kerasilk Keratin Smoothing Treatment, $250 - $450 depending on your hair type and salon. Find more information and a salon near you here. Cellophanes Treatment by Sebastian, price depends on salon, Find more information and your nearest salon here. How Nat’s What I Reckon became our cooking show anti-hero
With over 2 million followers on the internet, and a handful of very A-list fans (David Grohl for one), Nat's What I Reckon was the surprise internet hit that may have saved lockdown. Australian comedian’s Nat’s dry delivery coupled with his passion for home-cooked, simple meals (his dad used to chef at the Ritz, Paris) makes his Youtube videos like 'How to Make Quarantine Sauce' or 'Carbo-rona Sauce' or 'End of Days Bolognese’ as entertaining as they are inspiring. His debut book Un-cook Yourself shows us more of the man behind those dead-straight metalhead locks - with the Sydney-sider sharing his life lessons coupled, of course, with his favourite recipes. Onya, champion. You can find Nat’s What I Reckon on Youtube here, or on Facebook here. Un-cook Yourself: A Ratbag’s Rules for Life, by Nat’s What I Reckon is available online now, here, $32.99 You can join the conversation, or drop us a question, via the Healthy-ish Australia Facebook page, here. ‘I chose to have a baby, by myself’
Alexandra Collier is one of the rising number of Australian women who have chosen to be a solo parent. At age 39 she was artificially inseminated with donor sperm and conceived her son, Quinn on her first round of IVF. Although motherhood is, by her own acknowledgement, the hardest thing she’s done - she has also battled the pre-conceptions and criticisms that still come with ‘choosing’ to get pregnant, and raise her son alone. Her poignant essay, first published in the Good Weekend shone a light on the judgement she faced, but also the light it has brought to her life. You can find Alexandra on Instagram at @alexandracollierwrites and online here. You can read Alexandra’s full story originally published in the Good Weekend, and can be found via The Sydney Morning Herald here.
