Ep 75 | Losing 200K to co-founding Relume | With Dan Anisse

Welcome to Episode 75 of Webflail with Daniel Anisse.  As anyone that listens to this podcast knows, Relume originally formed as an agency but since then, Relume has evolved into a product company that provides tools and resources used by thousands of Figma designers & Webflow developers including icons, the component library, the ai site builder and more. However, few people will know that Dan is a man after my own heart - a lover of failure that has tried and failed to kick start over 20 business ideas. I say a lover of failure not from a snarky place at all - it is from a place of deep respect. In fact, Dan wrote an article called “Beautiful Failure,” in which he wrote:”No one ever achieved anything if they didn’t dare to start. I know… you have failed in the past… BUT remember how you felt when you gave in and got a full-time job — it was one of the worst feelings in the world”I am extremely excited to dig in to the failures we’ll talk about in today’s episode which are:1: Losing $200k in a clothing business2: Failing to kick start over 20 business ideas3: ‘Almost’ closing Relume Agency (Dec 2020)LINKS FOR DANIEL💻 See Website: https://www.relume.io📬 Connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dan-anisse🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/dcanisseTRY OUT WEBFLOW🚀https://webflow.grsm.io/webflailCONNECT WITH WEBFLAIL📬 Subscribe to the newsletter: https://webflail.ck.page/8a5e37bca6🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackRedley1SAY THANKS💜 Leave a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...💜 Leave a rating on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5834...💜 Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/infoHg

Ep 74 | Why choosing the right business partner changes everything for new agencies | With Goodside Studio

Welcome to Episode 74 of Webflail with Goodside Studio.  Today my guests are Danielle Laroy and Jessica Strelioff. These two are long time creative collaborators but came together more formally last year to launch Goodside Studio. The ethos was: "One part visual. One part verbal. Weaving colour, concept, and copy into cohesive brand systems that scale.” Wait what? What does that mean? Well, Jessica is a brand identity designer with over 10 years experience working with the likes of Asana, Yahoo, Google and agencies such as Upperquad, Farm Design and Paladar. Danielle is a wordsmith that has smithed words for the likes of Patagonia, Robinhood and Google. To give you a taste of her wordsmithing, her website homepage says: Strategy with soul, Copy with character, Brands you want to hang out with. Alliteration for the nation.Has it all been as smooth as the words “copy with character" would suggest though? You guessed it. No it hasn’t.The failures we’ll talk about in today’s episode are:Navigating the pre-commitment phase before we started GoodsideIgnoring orange / red flags in new business callsSaying yes to projects for the wrong reason (to please others, for money, because it's a big name)LINKS FOR GOODSIDE💻 See Website: https://www.goodside.studio🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Goodside_StudioTRY OUT WEBFLOW🚀https://webflow.grsm.io/webflailCONNECT WITH WEBFLAIL📬 Subscribe to the newsletter: https://webflail.ck.page/8a5e37bca6🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackRedley1SAY THANKS💜 Leave a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...💜 Leave a rating on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5834...💜 Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/infoHg

Ep 73 | How to get your dream Webflow agency job | With Michael Riddering

Welcome to Episode 73 of Webflail with Michael Riddering.  Now if you’re in the Webflow space, I have no doubt you’ve seen Michael around but on the off-chance that my mum is listening and won’t know who he is, he is the founder of Figma Academy where he has taught over 4000 designers. He’s also the creator of dive club where the best designers never stop learning - there are a series of courses there from Michael but other designers too, and he also has a podcast called Deep Dives, where he interviews the most prolific designers in the space. Before this, he was the founding designer at Maven, an online, cohort based learning platform. The failures we’ll talk about in today’s episode are:1) Pre-selling a SaaS platform for my startup to extend runway.2) Designing maven onboarding.3) Launched @joindiveclub as a school but tbh I couldn't get it to work.LINKS FOR MICHAEL💻 See Website: https://www.ridd.design📬 Connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelriddering/🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ridd_designTRY OUT WEBFLOW🚀https://webflow.grsm.io/webflailCONNECT WITH WEBFLAIL📬 Subscribe to the newsletter: https://webflail.ck.page/8a5e37bca6🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackRedley1SAY THANKS💜 Leave a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...💜 Leave a rating on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5834...💜 Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/infoHg

Ep 72 | How Henry lost his first 10k Client... And now works with Ali Abdaal | With Henry Ludlam-Steinke

Welcome to Episode 72 of Webflail with Henry Ludlam-Steinke .  Henry is a london based Webflower that is particularly talented at design. Hen-ry.com says it all - clean fonts, shimmering gradients, 3D animations is the name of the game to create elegant, flowing and pleasing websites. Despite being a young gun in the Webflow space, Henry has worked with YouTube greats like Ali Abdaal and Jamie Rawsthorne as well as start ups too. Fun facts - Henry wears caps a lot, he’s currently digital nomading around (in turkey at the time of this call) and he’s bullish on learning spline. As with anyone that’s working with these type of clients and making saucy work this early on in their journey, Henry has had some highs and lows so far.The failures we’ll talk about in today’s episode are:First time I ever got a 10k projectDeep sense of shame despite client criticism was unfoundedOvershared and unshared on TwitterLINKS FOR HENRY💻 See Website: https://hen-ry.com🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/hencubedTRY OUT WEBFLOW🚀https://webflow.grsm.io/webflailCONNECT WITH WEBFLAIL📬 Subscribe to the newsletter: https://webflail.ck.page/8a5e37bca6🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackRedley1SAY THANKS💜 Leave a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...💜 Leave a rating on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5834...💜 Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/infoHg

Ep 71 | Why Johnnie walked away from an agency he built for 10 years | With Johnnie Gomez

Welcome to Episode 71 of Webflail with Johnnie Gómez .  He’s Staff Brand Designer, Web at Webflow but before joining webflow in 2019, he ran a digital agency together with my business partner for the last decade. They worked with all sorts of clients in all kinds of projects including fashion campaigns, ads, branding, store design & signage, web design and development, mailing and drip campaigns. ANYTHING CREATIVE, JOHNNIE HAS DONE IT.Kevin arleo:“Johnnie is that kind of people that is hard to find. There is no need to say that he is an amazing, chameleon-like designer that can do any type of work with brilliance because his work speaks for himself. But the thing is, that Johnnie is an incredible human being with a great sense of empathy. I have never seen someone who cares so much for his coworkers and the design community. He is always willing to teach and learn from others. His energy and kindness are contagious. My advice for anyone considering working with Johnnie would be: DO IT, don't miss that opportunity.”The failures that we will talk about today are:Scaling his 10-year old agency in Argentina, or NOT doing this.Trying to freelance but bellyflopping and drowning. Not understanding cultural implications👀 Check out Showcased todayLINKS FOR JOHNNIE💻 See Website: https://www.johnnies.life📬 Connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/johnniegomez/🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/callmejohnnieTRY OUT WEBFLOW🚀https://webflow.grsm.io/webflailCONNECT WITH WEBFLAIL📬 Subscribe to the newsletter: https://webflail.ck.page/8a5e37bca6🐦 Connect on Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackRedley1SAY THANKS💜 Leave a review on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...💜 Leave a rating on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/episode/5834...💜 Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/infoHg
