Living with Long covid
This podcast aims to raise awareness of long covid, provide a platform of support, education and the lived experience. My name is Julie, I am a registered nurse in the UK. I became unwell with Covid in May 2020 while working on the front line, during the first wave of the pandemic. Subsequently I live with long covid and POTS ( postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). I would like to share my journey and lived experience, the symptoms and how each impacts daily life. I aim to not only consider the physical issues but also the impact this has had mentally and emotionally. It is reported over 2 million people in the UK and an estimated 65 million worldwide, live with long covid. This is huge, and affects every area of a persons life, their family, friendships and work life. Join me and some great guests and let’s Learn, advocate and continue this journey together.

Planning and preparing to return to work
Send us a textIn this episode of the podcast I thought it would be useful to discuss planning and preparing for a return to work. I wanted to share my lived experience of returning to work and what process needs to be considered and completed prior to returning to work. I tried to fumble through the process of returning to work after an extensive period of time off, and with a long term condition/disability. This in itself is hard work, so I thought this would be a useful podcast. I have also created a short document/notebook and return to work process chart, to support others returning to work. I will share this with you guys across my social media platform and place it on my link tree. I discuss the richness of experience workplaces are losing by dismissing people with Long Covid and how the government needs to re-evaluate this and put funding into Long Covid, as this is just adding to an already depleted workforce. It is also leaving people financially vulnerable and trying to manage a condition resulting from the pandemic with no treatment or cure. Long Covid; hormones, peri-menopause, menopause, POTS, What is what??
Send us a textIn this episode I talk about symptom overlap with other conditions. What is what? this can be so confusing and cause symptoms to not be investigated or afforded any potential treatment. I specifically look at Long Covid, peri-menopause, menopause, Testosterone and POTS. I explore some of the research and guidance relation to these conditions and Long Covid. I explain how I worked out I had POTS and subsequently had tests and was diagnosed, I may not have had this diagnosis had I not monitored my symptoms and researched. There are over 200 symptoms of long covid, and of course these overlap with other health conditions, and have the potential to offer symptom treatment or management therefore all symptoms should be investigated individually and holistically. I hope you find this episode helpful, as always thank you for listening and please do take care. Getting to know me!
Send us a textI never thought I would need to get to know myself, or a new version of me due to the impact of a long term condition. In this episode I talk about how living with Long Covid and POTS has changed how I see myself, how the physical impact has changed or limited the things I use to do and/or enjoy. I talk about reflecting upon myself and times when I have not recognised the person in the mirror. I reflect on how this effects relationships, confidence and the person I once felt I weasand liked being. I have always held on to positivity and I discuss how this has supported my quest to get to know me again. To embrace where I am at this point in my life and look at what the art of the possible is, rather than what I can no longer do. It is a taskmaster too except such changes, to embrace them but it is important for emotional and mental health. I hope you find this episode helpful, as always thank you for listening and take care.
