Matthew Walker on Sleep #231
I met one of the world's foremost sleep researchers and experts, Matthew Walker at his Airbnb in London when he was over recently. Ironically, his rented flat was opposite Tiger Tiger which closes at 4am. So the world’s top sleep guru hadn’t had a great night’s sleep. It was the perfect chance for him to talk me through his own sleep schedule, as well as look at other important sleep issues including; The best time to go to sleep The optimum way to prepare in the final hour before bed The perils of bad sleep (frankly terrifying) How to deal with insomnia Sleep tips for parents (I need these) The importance of bright light exposure. The truth about sunglasses (surprising - if you are a sunglasses wearer make sure you listen) Getting the temperature right in your bedroom. (Clue - the older you get, the cooler it needs to be.) I’m sure that after listening to this you’ll change more than one thing about your bedtime routine. And if you enjoy it, perhaps you’ll share it with someone else you know who could do with a better night’s sleep.
