🌴147. Mash-ups
Today’s episode is inspired by a night out under the stars at Brisbane’s Riverstage, where I saw Train live (highly recommend, by the way!). It got me thinking — not just about great music, but about mashups. Remixes. Genre-bending. And how we can apply that same creativity to our work. From acoustic sets to DJ teases, to a live mashup of KT Tunstall and Razorlight (unexpected and excellent), this whole experience reminded me of something I love: contrast. And how powerful it is to combine unexpected things to create something fresh. In this episode, I riff on:🎶 Why mashups make us pay attention🧠 The connection between music genres and your business rhythm💡 How you can remix your own workday, methodology, or strategy session🕺 Why I think I’m currently operating in “funk mode” (not that kind of funk)📸 A little crowd-surfing, phone-snapping, ice-breaking concert magic from Train’s Pat MonahanPrompt for you: What genre are you playing in your business right now? And what unexpected element could you mash in to make it more original, engaging — or just more you?Let me know what you’re remixing — I’d love to hear from you. Thanks again for tuning in. 🎧 ~ LeanneSign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴146. The rise of vibe marketing and the fall of LinkedIn?
Happy Monday! Today I’m riffing on a recent episode of Greg Isenberg’s Startup Ideas podcast that had my brain buzzing. I love how freely Greg and his guests share what they’re experimenting with—this time, it was all about using AI agents to automate “vibe marketing.”Basically, it’s like this: You prompt an agent to research top-performing content, write posts in your voice (as a conversion copywriter, no less!), and publish across platforms like LinkedIn or X… completely hands-off. Sounds wild, right? While I’m intrigued by the idea (and I’ll be testing it this week), I’m also skeptical—especially when I think about how LinkedIn is feeling lately. Honestly? It’s been a slurry of soulless AI content. Automated comments. Robotic replies. And while it has been the best platform for my brand, I’m spending less and less time there.Instead, I’m gravitating towards Substack. It just feels more real, more human. Like there’s still you behind the words.I also talk about:How these AI workflows could help with book research and market positioningWhether books still hold their magic (spoiler: they kind of do)Why building an audience still matters—even if you have an AI armyHow I’m thinking about testing ideas on different platforms, and staying true to my voiceIt’s a bit of a brain-dump episode, but hey—that’s what Leanne on Demand is all about.Let me know what you think. 🌴145. Ditch the default feat. Dr Maike Neuhaus (Weekend Rewind)
On today's Weekend Rewind, I'm joined by good friend, psychologist and self-leadership expert, Dr. Maike Neuhaus. Maike and I always go deep when we chat (usually over long lunches), so this episode feels like a peek behind the scenes of one of those meaty convos—except this time, you get to join us!Maike specialises in helping people flourish—not just “fixing what’s broken,” but creating a life that’s rich in purpose, agency, and impact. We dig into the big stuff: why some people thrive while others stay stuck, how to tell if you’re burnt out or just blasé, what flourishing really means, and why sometimes the bravest thing you can do is say no.We also talk about:Her Self-Leadership 2.0 model (it’s 🔥: self-knowledge, self-goal-setting, and self-regulation)Why positive psychology matters more than ever—and why it still isn’t being taught widelyRedefining meaning beyond your job (your “why” doesn’t have to live at work)Cognitive dissonance, procrastination, and the sneaky ways we talk ourselves out of what we wantHer plans to slow-travel the world with her family (yes, she walks the talk!)The myth of waiting until retirement to live the life you wantThis episode is a permission slip to rethink how you live, work, and define success. It's inspiring, grounding, and—if you're anything like me—you’ll probably want to grab a pen and paper after this one.Maike also shares:The book that shaped her worldviewA quote that calls out the insanity of how we approach mental healthWhy the best productivity app might be... no app at allLet me know what hits home for you—just hit reply or tag me @leannehughes on LinkedIn or IG. 🌴144. Innovate to stay alive feat. Stephen Shapiro (Weekend Rewind)
Hey! Thanks for tuning in to this weekend’s rewind. This conversation was recorded a few years ago, but wow—has it aged well. Today’s guest is the brilliant Stephen Shapiro, an innovation expert who's spent decades helping organisations grow by asking better questions and solving the right problems.Stephen shares how he went from optimising processes (aka, shrinking companies) at Accenture to building one of their fastest-growing innovation practices—scaling from 0 to 20,000 people in nine months. 🔥We dive into:Why innovation isn’t about ideas—and what it’s really about insteadHow companies misuse the word “innovation” (and what to do instead)The difference between differentiation and mission statements (and why it matters)Why mob-sourcing (hello, Boaty McBoatface) is not innovationThe underrated power of problem formulation over problem-solvingHow your brain reacts to the word “creativity” (spoiler: it’s not all good)And what Stephen’s doing now to stay relevant and reimagine his next chapterThere’s so much in here—from laughter to learning to one of the best explanations I’ve heard about why asking better questions is the key to progress. Oh, and yes, he’s also playing the saxophone these days.✨ Links:Stephen’s website: stephenshapiro.comEnjoy the rewind,—Leanne 💡🎷Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴143. Breveloquence
Hey, thanks for tuning in today! I'm still here in Sydney, fresh off a multi-day event. I obviously can’t reveal the client or all the details, but I can share a powerful takeaway from the experience—especially for those of you tuning in daily.Today’s topic? Precision in speech.Which, if you've been listening to Leanne on Demand, might sound like the opposite of how I usually roll! 😅 Most episodes start with just a word or two in my head, and I riff from there. But in this particular event, I had to be extremely deliberate. Why? Because I was being filmed and simultaneously translated. No room for rambling, no fast-talking, no riffing. It really hit me how much value there is in practicing brevity. This daily podcast has trained me to speak on the fly. But when it matters, it also helps to land the plane quickly.I shared a quote from Jim Rohn in a workshop with Sally Prosser that really sums it up:"We often try to make up in words what we lack in confidence."Mic. Drop. 🎤If you're confident in your value, you don’t need to over-explain it.I wrap with one of my favourite portmanteaus from Alan Weiss: breveloquence—the marriage of brevity and eloquence.Catch you tomorrow!Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴142. Two screens, pls
Hey friends — coming at you from Sydney, where I’ve spent way too much time indoors today. Seriously, it was 4:30 PM before I even saw daylight. Not ideal. My Oura Ring told me my readiness score was 52 — yikes — but I rallied, stretched, ran a webinar for a great cause (the St. Vinnies CEO Sleepout!), and then hit record on this episode.Today’s chat is a mixed bag of reflections, rants, and revelations:💻 The underestimated productivity cost of working with a small laptop screen while travelling (IYKYK) — why screen real estate matters more than we think.🎧 How I ran a fundraising masterclass for the CEO Sleepout and offered a cool twist on fundraising incentives (hint: give $50, get the replay!).🧠 The art of frameworks + AI = smarter workflows and reusability magic.📖 Why you don’t need 2,500 stories to be a great communicator — just 5 solid ones, told well and linked cleverly to your message.🎤 The behind-the-scenes of DJ-ing your own Zoom session and why hosting + facilitating + producing at once is no joke.🖥️ My low-key obsession with figuring out a portable screen setup for hotel life.If you want to grab the webinar replay, just head to the CEO Sleepout page and drop a $50 donation under my name. And if you’ve got recs for portable dual-screen setups or want to rant with me about hotel tech setups, I’m all ears.Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴141. 4 drivers of future-proof work
This episode is a bit of a pulse check. With all the disruption flying at us—AI, tech, changing markets—I’m keeping my head up, scanning the horizon, and thinking about what actually matters as we look ahead (but not too far ahead).Forget five-year plans. I’m talking 12-month windows. That’s as far out as I go with clients right now, because everything is moving that fast. But even in the chaos, I think there are four things—four fundamentals—that will future-proof your business, your work, and even your relevance. Here they are:Agency – The sense of control, freedom, and choiceConvenience – The luxury we now expect as standard (Uber, Amazon, Peloton, you name it)Certainty – The desire to feel grounded, even when everything’s spinningConnection – The human need that even AI is stepping in to meetI share some real-world stories (like why I always pay tolls even when I don’t have to) and surprising stats (like the fact that AI companionship is now the top use case of AI 😳).Then I leave you with two questions:Can you deliver all four to your clients or team?If not, which one can you double down on?This one is short, reflective, and full of prompts—perfect if you’re thinking about where to steer your work next.Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴140. Leanne's obnoxious business model pyramid
In today’s episode, I’m recapping my experience speaking at the Queensland Association of Collaborative Practice’s annual conference. It was an absolute honour to be the only non-lawyer on stage. But also, it gave me a chance to bring a fresh perspective to a room of highly skilled professionals.I kick things off by explaining what collaborative practice actually is—because honestly, I only found out about it a couple of years ago, and I wish more people knew it existed. It’s a more human, client-led way to navigate things like separation or divorce, without the chaos of courtroom drama. From there, I share the key theme of my keynote: trade-offs—in law, in business, and in life. I riff on four dualities I’ve noticed in my own career journey:From hero to guideFrom appointments to accessFrom doing with hands and feet to thinking and speakingAnd ultimately, the dream: getting paid to be yourselfYep, I finally shared my obnoxious business model pyramid publicly. This episode is for you if:You're curious about what collaborative practice looks likeYou're navigating how to evolve your own business modelYou want to reflect on where you spend your energy—and how to level upYou dream of working in your zone of genius and getting paid for being youWhether you’re in the legal profession or not, I think this conversation will spark a bit of self-reflection—and maybe even a reframe.🎧 Tune in and let me know: where are you spending your time on the pyramid?Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴139. Why I'm making my workshop secrets public
I'm recording this episode ahead of a big week—I'm heading to Sydney for a mix of events and workshops, but before all that, I’m hosting something a little different. On Wednesday morning, I’m running a live webinar on May 21st, where I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes, never-before-shared ideas from my workshops.DONATE TO ACCESS THIS MASTERCLASS.Think of this session as the extended director’s cut of The 2-Hour Workshop Blueprint. When I wrote the book, I had to cut a lot of the more advanced stuff—either it would’ve turned into a side quest, or I’d lose people before they got the quick wins. So in this webinar, I’m pulling back the curtain on what didn’t make the book—but absolutely deserves the spotlight.I’ll also show you how I’ve been using AI (in real-time, no fluff) to make workshops smoother, more engaging, and a little bit magical. And—this is all for a bigger purpose. I’m doing it to raise funds for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, happening in June. Last year, I had FOMO seeing the impact people were making. So this year, I’m in. Big shoutout to my friend Cherie Canning from Illuminate Leadership who inspired me (and happens to be one of the GOATs—greatest of all time—supporting the cause this year).Homelessness is something that hits home. I’ve lived in Brisbane since 2016, and on my morning runs, I’ve noticed a massive increase in people sleeping rough—tent cities where there weren’t any before. This issue deserves attention, and this is a small way I can contribute. So if you're around Wednesday morning, come along. Learn some cool stuff. Support a powerful cause.Let’s raise ideas and raise funds. 🧡Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴138. How I sold 3,500 books in a year (without a launch party) feat. Jessica Mudditt
This weekend rewind is a special one. I'm celebrating the two-year anniversary of my first real book — The 2-Hour Workshop Blueprint. (Yes, I did write a netball coaching manual back in the day, 😄).To mark the occasion, I’m replaying a juicy interview I did with Jessica Mudditt on her podcast. Jessica’s the founder of Hembury Books and an all-round publishing legend — if you're thinking of writing or launching a book, she’s someone to follow on LinkedIn.In this convo, we go deep behind the scenes of the book’s creation, the 52-day sprint from idea to print, marketing wins (and a couple of misses), the role of Amazon ads, building flywheel momentum, and the unexpected power of low-hanging watermelons 🍉.Here’s a taste of what we cover:The actual timeline from idea to physical book (hint: it’s under 2 months)Why speed was more important than strategy (for my first book, anyway)How I got to 100+ Amazon reviews without being annoying (hopefully!)My unusual street-team approach to validating the title and coverBook marketing tricks that worked — and the few that didn’tWhat I’d do differently next time (yes, there will be a next time)Why I’d still choose self-publishing in a heartbeatWhether you're a fellow author, aspiring one, or just curious how a book can become a business asset — I think you’ll find this fun and practical.🎧 Listen in, and let me know: Have you ever thought about writing a book?
