🌴156. Clarity isn't found, it's chosen

Today's episode is all about clarity—what it gives you, and where it can trip you up.I reflect on something powerful I heard on The Diary of a CEO with Jimmy Fallon. He shared his obsession with getting on Saturday Night Live—how he wrote it in his journal, non-negotiable, and pursued it with singular focus. That kind of energy? That’s clarity.Right now, I’m getting that same type of clarity from my Everest Base Camp + Lobuche Peak goal. I didn’t have a weighted vest a few months ago, but now it’s part of the toolkit. Why? Because the what is set—and the how is starting to fall into place.💥 The insight I want to share with you today? We often get caught up in the how before we’ve decided on the what. And that’s what kills momentum. If I had started asking “how” too soon, I would’ve talked myself out of this trek: no hiking experience, no elevation training, no love for leg day. But I set the what, and that decision has mobilized everything else.So today’s encouragement is simple:Stop asking “how” too soon. Get clear on what you want. The how will come. Trust yourself to figure it out.🎒Bonus tangent: I also rave about my new weighted vest (so many pockets!) and mention the hilarious Jimmy Fallon/Nicole Kidman clip, which you must watch if you need a mood boost. I’ll link it in the show notes. Thanks for sticking with me through the puffing and panting—see you tomorrow!Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴155. #Rant Just because you worked hard doesn’t mean it’s worth more

You’ve probably seen this post floating around. It goes something like: “If you get the job done in 60 minutes, it’s because you spent 10 years learning how. They owe you for the years, not the minutes. Charge accordingly.”Now, I used to agree with that...But these days? It kind of drives me up the wall.In this episode, I break down why I think this mindset is outdated, self-serving, and—frankly—not helpful when it comes to actually pricing based on value. I share:Why no one owes you for your sweat and tearsThe difference between time spent and real-world impactHow AI and rapid learning are reshaping what’s valuableWhy efficiency is the value (not something to feel guilty about)My early mistakes in proposals and how I’ve reframed them Let me know what you think: Are we overvaluing experience and undervaluing usefulness?🎧 Hit play and send this to someone still stuck in the "time served" trap.Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴154. What did you obsess over at 13?

Today’s episode is a fun personal reflection—and a bit of a public declaration.I was talking to mates about the kind of work that really lights us up. For me, it’s this—talking into a microphone. Podcasting. Sharing ideas. Creating connection through voice. What’s funny is that I just made the connection to my teenage obsession with radio—specifically, B105’s Hot 30 Countdown with Stuy and Zoe. My best friend Andrea and I were on air at least 3–5 nights a week (shoutout segment, anyone?). I even won a national treasure hunt and flew to Sydney thanks to that show. All this time, I’ve been podcasting and building a business off the back of it without realizing—I’ve basically been doing the grown-up version of what 13-year-old me loved most.In this episode:I share my Hot 30 radio obsession (and how it landed me a gold sovereign)Why podcasting feels effortless—and how it helps me build trust at scaleHow organizations can use private podcasts to onboard, engage, and connectMy public challenge: Should I try to get a regular radio segment? And for you? I leave you with this question:What did you love doing as a kid—and are there clues there for your next move? Thanks for tuning in—literally—and I’ll speak to you tomorrow.—LeanneSign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴153. 4 words I said that triggered her

In today’s episode, I unpack a moment I’m not super proud of—a time I said four little words that accidentally derailed a conversation and made someone defensive. I didn’t mean to. But I can see now how it landed, and I’m using this episode to reflect, recalibrate, and hopefully help you avoid doing the same. Here’s what we explore:The unintentional damage of saying those four words (even when it feels true in the moment)Why trust can’t be fast-tracked with words—it’s built through context, clarity, and credibilityThe difference between perfection expectations vs. success criteriaAlbert Bandura’s 4 pillars of building self-efficacy (and how I'm applying them to Everest Base Camp 🏔️)The tension between moving fast and bringing others along for the rideHow my ideation strength can backfire when I forget to translate the why and how behind my actionsThis is a mini case study in self-awareness, communication under pressure, and learning to adapt—even when you think you’ve got it sorted.🎧 Let’s chat about the dangers of shortcut phrases, the power of self-efficacy, and what to say instead when you just want to move forward.Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴152. Redefining team building feat. Andy Balzat (Weekend Rewind)

This week’s rewind is extra special because I just spent Wednesday night hanging out with Andy Balzat and the incredible Banana Life team at one of their signature games nights in Brisbane. So, I thought: What better time to bring back this brilliant conversation?Picture this: Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You playing… and the challenge is to hit a drum exactly on the beat after her big pause. That’s just one of the hilarious and creative games they brought to life. We were up at Smoked Garage in Fortitude Valley—beautiful venue, great people, and tons of fun. If you ever doubted that team building could be awesome, this’ll flip your perspective. In this episode, Andy shares how Banana Life went from a tourism business for international students to one of Australia’s go-to team building companies. And trust me—it’s not trust falls and awkward icebreakers. Think cabbage catapults. Think Survivor-inspired games. Think strategic fun.We talk about:Why team building has a branding problem—and how Andy’s changing itThe similarities between tourists and corporate teams (spoiler: both need connection)How to handle tricky team dynamics and design for connection, not just funHis MCing journey and the shift from beach facilitator to stage presenceSales tips for facilitators, including how to screen leads and elevate proposalsIcebreakers that actually work—including one involving bananas, rainbows, and improvThere’s also a cheeky engineering twist in there—Andy’s dad helped him build a literal trebuchet. I told you this was next-level.🟡 Hit play and enjoy this one—it’s full of laughs, insights, and ideas you can take straight into your next event.—Thanks for tuning in—and shoutout to Andy and the Banana Life crew for making team building appealing (in more ways than one 🍌).Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴151. Running a global empire without a team feat. Alan Weiss (Weekend Rewind)

In today’s episode of Talk the Walk, I bring you a spicy, spirited convo with the one and only Alan Weiss — and we go deep (and a little rogue) on a hot topic: Do you really need a virtual assistant to grow your business?Alan says no. Emphatically. And look — this wasn't even our planned topic. A throwaway comment Alan made in a previous episode (about VAs being an ego play before you're earning $5M+) sparked a flood of DMs, so we decided to go full throttle on it.In this episode, we talk about:Why Alan runs a seven-figure business with zero staff (and what he does instead)The difference between subcontracting and hiringWhy most people hire out of fear or ego — not needAlan’s daily habits, discipline, and why his Filofax > your fancy scheduling softwareHow to stay ultra-responsive (and why that’s a competitive edge)The real cost of outsourcing the basics before you’ve mastered them yourselfWhat you should outsource first (hint: it’s not your inbox)And of course, the joy of sponsored coffee mugs and martinis at 7am 🍸☕Plus: You’ll hear my confession about sending Alan a Calendly link (his horror!) and how I found myself nervously calling his landline at 5am — yep, we’re taking it back to old-school consulting.Whether you’ve got a VA, are thinking of hiring one, or just want to tighten up your solo game, this one’s a must-listen.Mentioned:American Express concierge servicesWhy email is NOT a task management systemAlan’s infamous Monday Morning MemoThe difference between success and perfectionWhy subcontracting beats staffing (and gives you your life back)🎧 Grab your coffee, martini, or matcha — and come talk the walk with us.Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴150. How I host a live show

Hey hey — today’s episode is timed literally to the Thermomix timer. I had 14 minutes while my eggs boiled, so that’s what I gave myself to record, edit, and publish this. (Spoiler: The beep didn’t make it in.)What I wanted to share with you is a little behind-the-scenes look at how I prep, host, and run my live stream show Talk the Walk with Alan Weiss. We’ve now done over 20 episodes together (!), and it’s evolved into a rhythm that’s spontaneous, thoughtful, and honestly, a brilliant crash course in real-time facilitation. In this episode, I walk through:🎯 How we come up with topics (some planned, most riffed)🧠 Why everything is marketing when your name is your brand🎬 The tech I use to pull it all together (shoutout to StreamYard + Canva)🎤 How I prep prompts and questions to keep the convo flowing🧩 Why live-streaming is the best training ground for handling anything in the momentGet $10 off Streamyard.Alan throws curveballs. I do the tech. And we co-host in a way that feels fun, fast, and occasionally chaotic (in a good way). I'm also thinking of offering others the chance to go live with me soon—so if you’re curious about that, stay tuned.🔁 Don’t forget: Tomorrow’s Weekend Rewind features the full conversation Alan and I had about building a profitable business without hiring a VA or adding overhead. One of my favourite convos so far. Thanks for tuning in. 🌴149. Screaming chickens

This one’s personal—and iconic. In today’s episode, I share the wild, weird, wonderful story of how my husband’s dream car—a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am—finally made its way into our lives. But it’s not just a story about the car. It’s about the look. More specifically, the Screaming Chicken decal that lives on the hood.It arrived today. And as we prepped to slap it on, I stumbled across the backstory—and WHOA. It’s not just a sticker. It’s a bold branding move that was laughed out of the room… until someone took it to the people. What happens when your best idea gets rejected? You get out of the boardroom—and take it to the gas station. This episode is part car chat, part brand strategy, and part pep talk for anyone who's had an idea shut down too soon. You’ll hear:The backstory of the flaming bird that almost didn’t happenHow a rogue designer made the world fall in love with a decalWhy the best “market research” might be a drive-throughWhat this all has to do with standing out, making bold moves, and building Work FameAnd yes—I plan on taking our Trans Am out for a spin. 🌴148. My $500 status run

Hey from the Brisbane Airport car park!Today’s episode is a little... rogue. I flew to Newcastle and back this morning — not for a keynote, not for a holiday, but for something frequent flyers call a status run.If you’ve never heard of it, I walk you through exactly what it is, why I did it, and how I used a mix of AI, points-chasing logic, and productive downtime to make it totally worth it. ✈️I also chat about:Why I’ve been cheating on Qantas (sorry not sorry?)What Gold status actually gives you (spoiler: it’s more than a lounge)How AI helped me find the cheapest, fastest way to retain my perksWhy flying gave me a “balcony view” moment on my businessThe ROI of a $500 decision that keeps paying off all year longEven if you’re not into travel hacks, this episode’s about how sometimes, the most random decisions (like a fly-in fly-out morning adventure) can create space to think, reset, and come back sharper than ever.Sign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S. 🌴147. Mash-ups

Today’s episode is inspired by a night out under the stars at Brisbane’s Riverstage, where I saw Train live (highly recommend, by the way!). It got me thinking — not just about great music, but about mashups. Remixes. Genre-bending. And how we can apply that same creativity to our work. From acoustic sets to DJ teases, to a live mashup of KT Tunstall and Razorlight (unexpected and excellent), this whole experience reminded me of something I love: contrast. And how powerful it is to combine unexpected things to create something fresh. In this episode, I riff on:🎶 Why mashups make us pay attention🧠 The connection between music genres and your business rhythm💡 How you can remix your own workday, methodology, or strategy session🕺 Why I think I’m currently operating in “funk mode” (not that kind of funk)📸 A little crowd-surfing, phone-snapping, ice-breaking concert magic from Train’s Pat MonahanPrompt for you: What genre are you playing in your business right now? And what unexpected element could you mash in to make it more original, engaging — or just more you?Let me know what you’re remixing — I’d love to hear from you. Thanks again for tuning in. 🎧 ~ LeanneSign up for free for my best articles every week: Work Fame.Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.comP.S.
