I talked about Sabriel in an earlier podcast episode, closer to when The Slap was released. Transcript Somewhere near me, someone has a problem. The problem, they’re convinced, it can be fixed with a hammer. Now I swear, I can barely if at all hear them if I walk down the street, but it’s echoing through the attic spaces above these old row houses. If you don’t know what a row house is, imagine like… a whole line of town houses, basically. Everyone kinda sharing a wall, and apparently attic space as well. It’s not like impossibly loud, but the little green meter on the right hand side of my screen, it bounces around in the same rhythm as the hammering. So I do know that means the microphone picks it up. Now Monday I didn’t record a single word, because I don’t like repeating myself. And so as the week went on, I don’t know, it just basically became like a comedy in its own way, of weird little noises. So I’m recording this mostly train-of-thought podcast episode. It might make it to you a little later than usual, but you’ll forgive me. You’ll simply be excited to hear from me, right? And if the hammering actually starts while I’m talking then I’m just going to roll with it. Now recently I put Party of Perversion, that session, on sale for a little while. Now in case someone, anyone was wondering what method I use to decide which sessions to put on sale, I confess there… ooh, I confess. Okay, take us to like a little dark room, you can choose which side of the screen you’re sitting on. You can even be on my side, come sit with me, right? Well, there is no grand marketing scheme behind it. Now I know, maybe there should be. The truth is I know that the whole FOMO it works. Hell, it works on me. So yeah, there’s some people out there who want to listen to my sessions… and I don’t mind helping them make a choice. Look at this one, it’s five bucks cheaper than usual! And as far as choosing the sessions goes, it’s simply that I’ll get a message that mentions a session, or reminds me of a session, and I want to make it easier for my listeners to explore it. So there’s no divine spark, or marketing team right there on speed dial. It’s just pure whimsy, that’s all. So Party of Perversion was picked up by a few people, a few of my lovely listeners who hadn’t heard it before… and that was fun, because I have some comments on it now, some new takes. And I love these fresh perspectives. And then on a semi-recent Friday, I was sitting in a tea room with my laptop, basically vacillating over what to create for this week. And actually, I was also writing a pros and cons list of publishing a few short stories that I’ve written. I’m still considering a few different venues, few different ways of doing it, and of course there would likely be an audiobook. I suspect it would be quite easy for me to find someone to record my words, right? Oh and then I was also thinking about Sabriel. Now it’s funny how Sabriel sessions come to be. They basically never start out as Sabriel sessions. I’ve had a few people ask me about the name… now I do get that in certain cultures the name Sabriel it might come across as quite feminine. That’s actually not the goal. It’s similar to like… Gabriel. That type of name. So anyway, that’s Sabriel. The first Sabriel Session is Violet, and that came to be, before I even had a name for this character. This person… this Eternal Suitor. Now Violet is as much about how it feels to be a seducer, as it is about being the… seductee? I’m sure that’s a word, it just sounds nicer than “target”, or “victim”. Right, I know… some of your are like “No, use victim!” you like that better. But Violet brought about that whole idea of having a certain someone who’s the subject of that kind of play. It’s pure hypnokink, right? I know that I’ve explained that before, but let’s tread back over familiar ground. You enjoy that, right? I know how many of you listen to Press Play every morning… and just as many have decided they’d rather reinforce the POUR trigger every night before sleep. That’s actually a perfect example. It isn’t at all about the traditional BDSM, Femdom kink. You know I love some worship, or some chains, or some mild feminization… or more. But I’m never going to be one of those expert rope tops who can make beautiful harnesses. I can do a very nice mermaid tail. And I’m probably always going to be out-knotted by boy-scouts and fishermen alike. It’s a bit too fiddly. But hypno for the sake of hypno, it’s the Sabriel wheelhouse. I’ve always enjoyed this conversational style, with lots of confusion and poetic language. Oh, and strange, half-remembered references to pop culture. I love getting a message from someone that says basically “I love such-and-such session, but I was just thinking about it while I was cooking, gardening, showering… whatever… and I realized that it is riddled with Madonna lyrics.” or “I’ve heard X three times before, but this time I realized that you were describing this movie scene and now I have to figure out what streaming platform it’s on.” I admit for me, it’s sometimes… like over the weekend, wandering through some shops, and it seems like everybody is (for the little indie ones) they’re trying to match their music to their merchandise even moreso than their customers. Oh man, it’s crazy to get all these different songs in your head, and one of them was actually from the 50s, and I only had a little snippet of it, and it took a very deep dive into lyrics to just figure out what the song happened to be. So that’s why you get a bit of that in the sessions, there’s songs from all eras and other little references, because if they’re plaguing me and they want to be in my brain, I’m going to put them in your brain as well. No these sessions like PTTFO and Party of Perversion that take a simple narrative and turn it on its head. They cut and chop and change perspective. They have timelines that are deliberately hazy. So I’m not even certain if those two use the Sabriel trigger itself, but they’re written for him, and he is you. If you’re listening to this, I have no doubt that you’d like to be Sabriel. And then there’s narratives like The Apartment, The Trick-or-Treat session, and The Slap. I am going to be talking more about The Slap in an upcoming podcast episode. The first two, they’re are about amnesia play. The Apartment, too, is about Mind-Over-Body type control. The Trick-or-Treat sessions are subtle mindfuckery. If you’ve never listened to them, well… no spoilers. No spoilers for The Last of Us, either… it is a decent show though, I was surprised by that. Now the only thing I’ll say is that both sessions is they’re about lying to Sabriel. Big, fat, bold-faced lies that leave him feeling embarrassed, or satisfied, depending on what he chose. Oh, and they’re not spooky, even if they are Hallowe’en sessions. If I ever venture further into the supernatural, that’ll be in the Listening Room, for sure. Now The Slap, it was going to be a Listening Room session. I was writing it at the same time Financial Domination one was in the works, and it felt similar in tone. And as I mentioned I’m not going to tell you more about The Slap at this moment because I do have something planned for that coming up. So anyway, when it comes to Sabriel it’s on my mind because for the first time, last week, I set about writing a Sabriel story that actually is a Sabriel story from the very beginning. It’s written for Sabriel, as opposed to being a circumstance that he sort-of fell into. Now it is in the early stages right now, I think it might not appear until April but we’ll see. Now last week I did release a 15 minute sleep session as a precursor to a longer project that’s in the same wheelhouse there. Now I’ve worked with the editor and a musically-inclined listener to make something that ties together hypnotic techniques and those binaural beats. We listened to Weightless by Marconi Union. If you haven’t heard that, you need to listen to that. And then devoured everything we could about why it works, and made something that brought together all the best parts of hypno, brain-trickery, and music into something cohesive. Now I have to say I am getting replies back from the sleep one, and I am just thrilled. I absolutely love it when you get how the music and the words are just… picked and polished and perfected to be something that I want to be in your ears. So I think today’s rambles happen to be most of… a bit of just about everything. And… if you’re unfamiliar with that phrase, I do suspect it’s mostly in the UK, it means basically starting at one pub and making your way along a street, and stopping at more pubs, til you reach a final one or perhaps reach your limit. The danger of course is you take along someone like me and I insist on staying at the venue that has the live music! I am not good at pub crawls for those two obvious-ish reasons. One I just gave to you, right? If they have live music, basically any kind… it can be two guys with guitars. It can be jazz, or so on, I’m gonna wanna stay. And as for alcohol, my limit is definitely not on part with most British people. I’m just gonna blame it on a different kind of upbringing. So my creatives have been busy creating and it appears the writing bug has bitten quite a few of you! I have a writing prompt of sorts to share. It came to me, actually in the middle of the night, which led to looking up a few details just to make sure I have them correct. And that led to this story, which sounds like it could be a drama that runs for a few decades. Or in the case of Netflix it’d get one season, end on a cliffhanger, and then you find out it’s canceled. Here’s the story: Psyche is so beautiful that the jealous goddess Venus commands her son Cupid to make her fall in love with an unworthy man. However, Cupid falls in love with Psyche himself. Concerned about Psyche’s lack of suitors, her parents consult the oracle of Apollo. They are told that Psyche’s future husband is a monster and that she must be abandoned on top of a mountain. It’s like the Indian Matchmaker show, like, gone wild. And I confess, I confess, I totally binge-watched that show. I had a few other things going on at the same time but wow, it’s pretty satisfying. Anyway. So where were we? Oh yes… her parents. They were concerned about those lack of suitors and told to put her on top of a mountain. The west wind, Zephyrus [..], saves her and carries her to Cupid’s palace. Cupid visits Psyche only at night and forbids her to make any attempt to see him. Psyche is curious about her lover’s appearance and fearful after her two jealous sisters convince her that Cupid is a serpentine monster. Now, if this dude is visiting you every night to have some good sex, I’m asuming it’s good, because she’s curious right? She wants to see… wouldn’t you have caught on my now if he’s some kind of a snake monster? Which does remind me… I really, really want to do a tentacle story, so I need at least like a dozen of you to send me a message and say “Yes, please,. Tentacle story. I want that!” Okay, so… she is now urged on by these two jealous sisters. They tell her to take a look, so she conceals a lamp and knife in her bedchamber. When Cupid is asleep, Psyche illuminates his beautiful figure with the lamp but a drop of hot oil accidentally wakes him. Now if this, if this is Season One of the Netflix show, this is the cliffhanger. This is where it ends… drop of oil, he wakers up. That’s it… and then you’re like “ooh, that’s okay because Season Two will come soon.” Yes, I’m a little salty about Netflix canceling a show I liked. I don’t actually watch a whole buncha TV. I’m more of a reader… I just, I don’t know, I just find it easier because I don’t actually have to remember what I was watching. Anyway, I just find it way easier. But on the occasion I do watch something, I really want to be able to, you know, get the time from it. Especially if it is this series, and you’ve watched episode after episode after episode, I want the whole story. And so maybe that is why books come out superior because, they have the whole story. Even if the ending, and I’m talking about you Night Circus, even if the ending isn’t exactly as good as you’d hoped. So… drop of oil, where am I? Here we go… angrily he flies off with Psyche clinging desperately to his ankle. Maybe that would be the last shot, right? And Psyche tries to drown herself but Pan tells her to win back Cupid’s love. Venus sets Psyche a series of increasingly difficult tasks. Ooh, that could turn into a story, couldn’t it? Yes, that would be a fun story. Although Psyche fails the final task, the gods make her immortal and she is reunited with Cupid. The story is told in paintings by Luca Giordano, in the 1600s, and much like my ongoing swipes at Netflix, he also didn’t finish the story which they claim is unusual for him. It’s rumoured he was very fast with his brush, he had a nickname of Luca Fa Presto (Luca works quickly) and so he finished lots. He was very good at finishing. I think there’s a lesson there for those who seem to, um, not finish. Maybe when you’re given a set amount of time to do a certain thing, you should be like Luca and be quick with the strokes so that you can finish before someone briskly tells you that time is up.  Alright, now back to the original middle-of-the-night story prompt. Let’s merge our interest of hypnokink with the story of cupid. He does manage some mind control and we like that, yes? Here is his story in a very short form – you tell me how you can see it being used by a Mistress or a submissive man. Now according to myth, Cupid was the son of Mercury, the winged messenger of the gods, and Venus, the goddess of love. He often appears having wings, and is barely dressed. He has a bow and a quiver of arrows whose wounds inspired love or passion in his every victim. So tell me, what you would do to work that into a story. And this week I have two other episodes planned for release this week. Wednesday is etiquette training and Thursday’s session is the first in the series of trigger reinforcements. All movements suggested include the option to do so in the headspace or in everyday life, whichever feels right.  You are also required to have a sense of humour, a willingness to be aroused, and a strong desire to go where I lead you. Now this session is unlikely to cause any upset, but it is a trip through different suggestion styles and structures including some different themes as well. Transcript We are talking today about suggestions. They come in all shapes and sizes, and when they’re suggestions that I plan to use repeatedly, I typically call them triggers. Those word runes that get nestled into your mind. Much like you may try to restart a campfire by blowing on it, a simple blowing on them makes them glow brightly again. In our world, that breath of air, it comes in the form of words. There are many suggestions throughout my work, more than I could possibly list – not that I’d freely share all of them with you anyway – but for the more formal triggers, where we have been putting together a list, they generally have a name or perhaps a sound associated with them. The result is when you hear, or see, the word that particular emotion or feeling will cascade over you. Making sure that you’re aware of the list of triggers, and you practice them, it’s staple of our enjoyment of each other. This is why we are revisiting triggers and I asked for your feedback a while ago about how you like to practice… and that has been an entire spectrum of answers. I’m looking forward to getting into that more with you. But let’s step back a moment and talk about suggestions in general. Not a week goes by that I don’t get a message from someone stating they only respond to direct suggestions. That’s it. If it isn’t authoritarian style, they’re convinced it’ll never work on their strong-willed mind. And that’s ridiculous. Even outside of hypnokink, we respond to suggestions all the time.  The indirect suggestions of advertising have their way with all of us, unless of course, you’re a hermit completely cut off from the world – but if that’s the case, how are you listening to me? I’m going to give you a confession, it’s not particularly juicy, but it’s still a Fact about Elswyth, that woman from the willow trees… and it’s the fact that I’m a ridiculously easy mark for anyone advertising outdoor bags or backpacks. Or messenger bags, have to add those ones in too. It’s that “ideal life” that they’re often marketing along with them, although in my case I continually struggle with finding that perfect bag for most occasions. I’m not really into purses, I have my “if you know, you know” handbag that works for most things. But man, talk to me about backpacks with space for wet shoes or easy storage for a rain cover and I am all in. My friends also know if they tell me they’re looking for a bag, and the reason why, that I’m on that hunt. Blend the hunting skill of Artemis with the fiery passion of Aphrodite and that is me on the bag trail. And, when I share that story with someone who is the king of “I only respond to authoritative suggestions”, they will generally share in return what indirect suggestions, or messaging, works on them. I have no doubt that as I shared my story, you came up with similar thoughts about what pictures, imaging, influencer shorts, or whatever that manage to grab you by the collar and bend you to their whims, even if just for a few minutes.Now, I realize for some of you that you’re just here. You’re blissfully unaware of debates about milton model vs meta-model style of hypnosis. Although, if you’re curious, the meta-model differs quite a bit from the Milton Model.The Milton model, it has more word play. You’re probably smiling at that. It offers a variety of options for constructing sentences containing these deletions, and distortions, and sweeping generalizations. The listener, that’s you, needs to generate your own interpretation of what he hears by discovering that missing information within yourself. Those this Milton Model, the use of nonspecific language forms is intended to induce and keep this state, the trance state of course, in order to bring your unconscious and hidden resources into contact with your personality. That’s the idea, anyway. And while usually I am directing you to a very specific point, either in a visualization, or an emotion, or physical sensation, there are sessions that basically require this open-endedness so that you can get to the point where you – delightfully unique you – are supposed to end up. With these, you’re typically instructed to report back to me – all of those thoughts and feelings… hmm… does that sound familiar? All of my thoughts and feelings belong to… You share those thoughts. You share those feelings. And I have an even deeper ownership of you. Thursday’s session is going to be an experiment of sorts. I am going to use nine different structures of suggestions. We’ll spend more time on some than others, but all in all it should be a fun time for you to learn even more about yourself. I know that experiencing different types of hypnosis is exciting for you, you can’t know what has the most power over you without this type of variety in there. And as for those that believe there is only one way that works for you, I assure you that you are wrong. There might be certain hypnotists that work best with you, but I swear it’s not because of one suggestion type. When I practiced more in a hypnotherapist capacity, people were usually both fascinated and skeptical when the inevitable “what do you do?” question popped up at social gatherings. And for my little nosy ones just dying to ask the question… when I get asked now I usually say, like, “digital content creator”. I just don’t think “Professional Mistress” is a career title my book club is ready to hear. So along the lines of the responses to “What do you do?”, almost everyone has had some direct or indirect experience with hypnosis, and it’s often incorrectly assumed that whatever I do with hypnosis is similar to whatever anyone and everyone else who uses hypnosis does with it. Honestly, fw people have had enough exposure to hypnosis to be able to differentiate the types and applications of hypnosis from one another. This can be a major drawback; when the general public assumes that “hypnosis is hypnosis is hypnosis,” and either they assume it’s all stage hypnosis, or in the case of looking up hypnotherapy they figure all they have to do is shop around in order to find the most inexpensive deal with the most promises attached.
