25. Magnus and Elynor Backstedt and their dream of father/daughter Roubaix glory

Paris-Roubaix winner from 2004 Magnus Backstedt and Trek-Segafredo women's rider Elynor Backstedt share the same dream: to become the first father and daughter duo to have both won the 'Hell of the North'.However, for 124 years it was just that, a dream. Because while the men have been able to race the Queen of the Classics since 1896, the women have never had an equivalent race for their own pro peloton – until now.On Sunday 11th April, Covid-permitting, we will see the inaugural women's Paris-Roubaix take place and with that, the dreams of both Magnus and Elynor will have the chance to become reality. In the latest edition of the Cyclist Magazine Podcast*, James and Joe catch up with the duo from their Welsh home to talk about why it has taken so long for the women to earn their own Paris-Roubaix, how Elynor spent her childhood writing to the UCI for a women's Queen of the Classics and how some fatherly advice may help her take home her own cobble one day.* Apologies for the clicking in the introduction, Joe promises to wear fewer zips for the next episode...If you liked this episode, please remember to leave us a review, comment and make sure to share with your cycling friends! In association with Castelli. For more on the Cyclist Magazine Podcast - https://www.cyclist.co.uk/cyclistmagazinepodcastSubscribe to Cyclist Magazine now - https://cyclistmag.co.uk/cyclistmagazinepodcast Hosted on Acast.
