Arsecast Extra Episode 402 - 28.02.2021

In this episode we enjoy what was a very nice surprise – a 3-1 win over Leicester. Given the team rotation, with six changes, and some big names not starting, it looked more difficult on paper, and even more so when we conceded another early goal. However, the Arsenal response was excellent, and we chat about the goals we scored, a set-piece routine working, VAR, an influential performance from Nicolas Pepe, Willian playing well, and how well we controlled a game against opposition which have often been troublesome to us. Then there are questions about Pablo Mari, head injuries, Gabriel Martinelli, finishing in the top 6, the durability of Granit Xhaka and lots more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Episode 617 - Saka gets us out of our own jail

On this episode I'm joined by Ryan Hunn and Andrew Allen to discuss our last-gasp 3-2 win over Benfica in the Europa League. As Arsenal are wont to do, we made life very difficult for ourselves, and we discuss our self-destructive tendencies, on display for both Benfica's goals on Thursday evening. We then chat the two goals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, two assists for Bukayo Saka, that Kieran Tierney goal and the reminders of Bacary Sagna from it, the Willian 'assist' and how much of this was Arsenal getting out of a jail of our own making, and how much was it a win showing kind of character we can build on. Follow Andrew @aallensport - Follow Ryan @ryanhunnIf you want to become an Arseblog Member on Patreon, you can sign up at patreon.com/arseblog for just €5 per month. Arsecast Extra Episode 401 - 22.02.2021

In this episode we look back on the 1-0 defeat to Man City on Sunday. Losing to a team as good as that isn't a surprise, but we explore the sense of frustration afterwards and what else might be informing it. We chat about the team selection, Mikel Arteta's changes, and the early lapse in concentration which cost us the goal that won City the game. Also on the agenda: substitutes, why games against Man City are so weird, and a tired looking Kieran Tierney, plus lots of listener questions about squad rotation, Bukayo Saka playing 90 minutes again, Gabriel Martinelli, Pep's post-game comments, the importance of the Benfica game on Thursday and lots more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Arsecast Extra Episode 400 - 19.02.2021

In this episode we look back at the 1-1 draw with Benfica in the Europa League on Thursday night. Will we rue those missed chances, or should we take encouragement from the fact we made them in the first place? We discuss Aubameyang's bad night in front of goal, Martin Odegaard showing his quality, another solid Bukayo Saka contribution, and try and figure out why the game played out the way it did, even if it was a bit frustrating. Then there are listener questions about resting key players, Emile Smith Rowe on the left hand side, Rob Holding, how you can prioritise one competition over another, divisive players and lots more.Vote for Arseblog as Best Fan Media in the FSA awards here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/fsa-awards-2020Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Arsecast Extra Episode 399 - 15.02.2021

In this episode we go over the 4-2 win over Leeds, discussing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's sensational return to goalscoring form, making the most of our first half domination by scoring the goals we did, Mikel Arteta's positive – and slightly surprising – team selection, the joy of Bukayo Saka, the influence of Emile Smith Rowe, and what was overall a really good win. There is some discussion of the second half, which wasn't as much fun, as well as questions about taking care of Saka and player welfare, Willian (again!), Gabriel Martinelli, rotating in Europe and dealing with this hectic schedule, Martin Odegaard and lots more.If you like what we do here on Arseblog and want to support it as well as getting access to loads of great exclusive content, Premier League preview pods for every game, ad-free podcasts, ad-free apps, Discord chat and lots more, why not become an Arseblog Member on Patreon? It costs just €5 per month and you can sign up here! Episode 616 - European women

On this week's show I'm joined Simon Collings of the Evening Standard to talk about Europa League venue issues, as Covid-19 forces UEFA to scramble around to find 'safe' places to play the games. Should away goals count if neither team is actually playing away? We also chat about Thomas Partey, Nicolas Pepe, the recent defeats to Wolves and Aston Villa and more. Then for the lowdown on the Arsenal Women's season so far, the chase for the Champions League places, contract talks with Vivianne Miedema, club structures, as well as the striker situation in the men's team and some William Saliba chat, it's Tim Stillman.Follow Simon @sr_collings - Follow Tim @StillbertoIf you want to become an Arseblog Member on Patreon, you can sign up at patreon.com/arseblog for just €5 per month. Arsecast Extra Episode 398 - 08.02.2021

In this episode we go over the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday. We chat about the early goal we conceded, where the blame goes, and the fact we still had basically the whole match to find a goal but didn't. Are defensive errors being exacerbated by a lack of attacking efficiency? We go through key moments the game, Villa's rotational fouling, Mikel Arteta's one very bad substitution derailing our momentum, Mat Ryan's debut, and what appears to be another Thomas Partey injury. We also answer listener questions about Hector Bellerin and the right back situation, the perception of referee bias against Arsenal, whether we should employ the 'dark arts' more, Gabriel Martinelli as a striker, and lots more. For extra content, ad-free podcasts, Discord chat, live streams and more - support Arseblog on Patreon. Episode 615 - Pepe Power

On this week's show I'm joined by Charles Watts of goal to talk about how Arsenal might react to the midweek defeat to Wolves. Were there enough positives for Mikel Arteta to get back on track quickly? We also chat about the improved form of Nicolas Pepe and why he needs to stay in the team; goalkeeping worries with Alex Runarsson set for his first Premier League start due to Bernd Leno's suspension and an injury to Mat Ryan; future recruitment strategy after the big January clean up; red cards, ill-discipline and David Luiz; and a smattering of the usual waffle.Follow Charles @charles_wattsIf you want to become an Arseblog Member on Patreon, you can sign up at patreon.com/arseblog for just €5 per month. Arsecast Extra Episode 397 - 03.02.2021

In this episode we look back at the 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday evening. A superb first half performance took a dark twist in injury time, and there's discussion of David Luiz, the penalty incident and the red card. We also chat about going down to 9 men when Bernd Leno was sent off in the second half, and the frustration of how quickly a game can change when it looks like you're in control. However, there were positives, things for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal fans to enjoy, and we talk about how we might respond to the way this match played out. There also listener questions about our disciplinary record, goalkeeping worries with Leno suspended, Mustafi moments, Aubameyang returning to the starting line-up and lots more.Subscribe to us on Patreon for exclusive content, extra podcasts, Discord chat and lots more: patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 396 - 31.01.2021

In this episode we chat about the 0-0 draw with Man Utd at the Emirates on Saturday evening. A draw was probably a fair result in the end, but there were some encouraging aspects to the performance – not least the ability to deal without three very important players. We talk about missed chances at both ends, another clean sheet for the Gunners, the half-time sub, and the shortcomings of VAR after the Bruno Fernandes. We then answer listener questions about William Saliba's quotes, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and his potential loan destinations, Nicolas Pepe, what's left of the January window, the importance of Bernd Leno and lots more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners.
