Arsecast Extra Episode 394 - 19.01.2021
In this episode we discuss the 3-0 win over Newcastle at the Emirates on Monday. The Gunners produced a much better second half to ensure the win and a fifth successive clean sheet. We chat about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being back among the goals, the continued – and very exciting – impact of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey's start and what he brings to midfield, as well as an overall look at the last few weeks and the points we've amassed. Then there are listener questions about Ainsley Maitland-Niles, what Smith Rowe's emergence means for the transfer business we might want to do for that position, Edu's January clear-out, Cedric's solid display, and lots more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners.Visit SockerClub.com and get 10% off at checkout using the code ARSEBLOG10 Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 393 - 15.01.2021
In this episode we look back at the frustrating 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Thursday. We discuss the absence of Kieran Tierney, the number of high touch players whose desire to be on the ball plays into the hands of an organised opposition, a lack of goal threat and a reality check after the last couple of games. Nevertheless, a clean sheet and the return of Thomas Partey were positives. We then answer listener questions about what we need to do at left-back if/when Tierney is absent, the news of an upcoming appointment at executive level, priorities in the transfer window this month, what exactly we're trying to do with set-pieces, and lots more, including the long-awaited return of Magpie Facts! The Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 20 - Girls will be girls
In this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim is joined by Women's Football journalist and author Carrie Dunn to discuss the recent reaction and fallout of several WSL players recently contracting Covid after travelling to Dubai during the winter break. What does the strength of the reaction say about our expectations of women and women athletes?Tim and Carrie discuss the "angel in the house" traditions that govern our impression of women footballers and the idea that women's footballers are and should be morally superior to their male equivalents. Is this an "us and them" moment between fans, the press and the players in women's football? Will the sense of relatability around women's football inevitably fade as the game grows and has that created a false moral standard for female footballers anyway? You can follow Carrie on Twitter @CarrieSparkle Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 392 - 11.01.2021
In this episode we discuss the 2-0 win over Newcastle in the FA Cup. There's focus on young players Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson who didn't quite take the opportunity, as well as the impact of another youngster, Emile Smith Rowe, who really did. We talk about the game, Bernd Leno's significant contribution, the positive VAR decision, Aubameyang getting on the scoresheet, Nicolas Pepe, and the positive aspects of a game which wasn't especially memorable. We then have listener question as we explore the Willian situation and where it might end, a new deal for Rob Holding in the context of our current collection of centre-halves, who else we should be looking to tie down, the search for a goalkeeper in the January transfer window, who covers for Kieran Tierney and loads more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Episode 611 - Wil-loan and Balogone?
On this week's show I'm joined by Amy Lawrence to discuss William Saliba, after the young Frenchman went out on loan to Nice this week. We chat about a difficult 18 months for a young player and things not going as smoothly as everyone would have liked when he signed back in the summer of 2018. Also on the agenda, Folarin Balogun and his contract situation. Arteta wants to keep him, but is the agent playing games or simply doing his best for his client? Can you give a player minutes just to convince him to sign a deal? We also talk about Emile Smith Rowe, how he might need support, whether that's via the transfer market or an internal solution, and lots more.Follow Amy @amylawrence71Here's the Wenger interview Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 391 - 04.01.2021
In this episode James and I discuss the 4-0 win over West Brom on Saturday, paying close attention to Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, and Kieran Tierney in particular. The Scottish international had a storming game, scored a fantastic opening goal, and there's so much to like about his game and his character. We also chat about Arsenal's brilliant second goal, and the two strikes for Alexandre Lacazette which capped an excellent all-round performance. Then we answer listener questions, with a lot of focus on central defenders. There's talk of Rob Holding and a potential new contract; should Gabriel come straight back in for Pablo Mari?; William Saliba's situation and his imminent loan to Nice; as well as further questions about Nicolas Pepe, Lacazette's contract, and the medium-term work the club have to consider for the striking position, and LOTS more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Episode 610 - Sakattack
In this episode I chat with James about the 1-0 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night. We discuss the impact and quality of Bukayo Saka, and how well he works from the right hand side in particular. We had a dodgy first half, a much better second half, and took three points thanks to Saka's contribution and a smart finish from Alexandre Lacazette. We also chat about Emile Smith Rowe, share some concerns over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and conclude, quite incisively, that it's nicer when we win. We finish with a little bit of transfer chat too.It also happens to be officially the 1000th episode of the Arsecast/Arsecast Extra, so thanks for being here!Follow James @gunnerblog Hosted on Acast. Arsecast Extra Episode 390 - 28.12.2020
In this episode we finally get to talk about an Arsenal win ... the 3-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday! We discuss the additions to the team, what Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli brought to the occasion, how they were well supported by some of the more experienced players, analyse the goals we scored and the intent with which we played in those moments, the somewhat terrifying end to the game, Bernd Leno's penalty save, and what Mikel Arteta will have taken away from a much needed, and long overdue win. There are also listener questions about Willian and David Luiz, Granit Xhaka, the January transfer window, Pablo Mari, what the future holds for Nicolas Pepe and lots more.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Arsecast Extra Episode 389 - 21.12.2020
In this episode, sadly we're discussing another defeat – the 2-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. Even after the dust has settled a bit and tempers have soothed, there's still frustration at the collective performance and some individuals. Willian's first half comes up for discussion, and we wonder what it is that Mikel Arteta sees in him that nobody else can. We chat about the substitutions, the fact we were in injury time before we got a shot on target in the second half, and how the manager is looking at stats for some positive reinforcement. We also discuss the Carabao Cup game on Tuesday and what kind of a team we'll play, before listener questions about what constitutes a successful season from here, the January transfer window, the apparent gap at executive level, and loads more.Buy the Goodly Christmas card here – all proceeds go to the Arsenal Foundation.Visit Arsebiz to support fellow Gooners. Episode 609 - Culture Club
In this episode I'm joined by Clive Palmer to talk about culture. How do you define it at a football club? What happens if you come in and try to change it, but meet with resistance? Can non-negotiables actually be non-negotiable? Who should define the culture to ensure that all the eggs aren't in the basket of one man? This, and lots more, framed around the work Mikel Arteta is doing at Arsenal, the problems he's having with results, how we got to where are now, why a dressing room clear-out is both necessary and inevitable, and lots more.Follow Clive @clivepafcBuy the Goodly Christmas card here – all proceeds go to the Arsenal Foundation.
